CAUTION: When prying with a flat-tip screwdriver, wrap it with protective tape, and apply protective tape around the related parts, to prevent damage. NOTE: Take care not to scratch the dashboard and related parts. Instrument panel: 1. Remove the center air vent. 2. Remove the climate control unit and audio unit as an assembly (’96 – 98 models, ‘99 – 04 models). NOTE: Do not disconnect the connectors. 3. Remove the dashboard lower cover and driver’s switch trim. 4. Remove the screws, detach the clips, then carefully pull out the instrument panel in the numbered sequence. Disconnect the connector, then remove it. NOTE: Release the adhesive at the left side of the skirt carefully. 5. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. NOTE: Make sure the connections are connected properly. Dashboard lower cover: Detach the clips, then remove the dashboard lower cover. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Driver’s switch trim: 1. Remove the dashboard lower cover.

SRS wire harnesses are routed near the steering column and passenger’s side dashboard. CAUTION: All SRS wiring harnesses are covered with yellow outer insulation. Before disconnecting any part of the SRS wire harness, install the short connectors. Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if it has an open circuit or damaged wiring. STEREO RADIO/CASSETTE REPLACEMENT NOTE (L and LS models): These versions have a stereo radio/cassette player with a 5-digit coded theft protection circuit. Be sure to get the code number before: -disconnecting the battery. removing the No. 56 (7.5 A) fuse. removing the radio. After reconnecting power and turning the radio ON, the word “CODE” will be displayed. Then enter the code. 1. Remove the center console panel.

1. Recover the refrigerant with a Recovery/Recycling/Charging System. 2. Remove the dashboard lower cover, the knee bolster and the glove box. 3. Remove the ECM. 4. Remove the ABS control unit and the radiator fan control module together with the bracket, then remove the TCM. Remove the security control unit. 5. Disconnect the connectors from the power transistor, blower motor high relay, evaporator temperature sensor, blower motor and the heater sub- harness, then remove the blower motor and heater subharness connectors from the brackets. Disconnect the passenger’s airbag harness clip. 6. Remove the wire harness clips, the three self-tap- ping screws and the pipe cover. 7. Remove the expansion valve covers, then disconnect the suction line and unbolt the expansion valve from the evaporator. NOTE: Plug or cap the lines immediately after disconnecting them to avoid moisture and dust contamination. 8. Disconnect the drain hose, and remove the seven self-tapping screws. Then pull the evaporator out of the front passengers side to remove it. NOTE: Be careful not to damage the evaporator fins when removing the evaporator. 9. Install in the reverse order of removal. Make note of the following items. If you’re installing a new evaporator, add refrigerant oil (ND-OIL 8). Replace the O-rings with new ones at each fitting, and apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil (ND-OIL
before installing them. NOTE: Be sure to use the right O-rings for HFC134a (R-134a) to avoid leakage. Be careful not to damage the evaporator fins when installing the evaporator. Install the expansion valve capillary tube with the capillary tube in contact with the suction line directly, and wrap it with tape.

Door Panel Removal NOTE: Take care not to scratch the door panel and other parts. 1. Remove the trim plate, then remove the screws. NOTE: Do not remove the inner handle from the door panel. 2. Remove the screw and stop. Release the clips that hold the door panel, then remove the door panel by pulling it upward. Disconnect the connectors and inner handle cable. NOTE: Remove the door panel with as little bending as possible to avoid creasing or breaking it. 3. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.

1. Remove: Door panel Plastic cover Inner molding Inner sash trim Sash trim 2. Carefully move the glass until you can see the bolts, then remove them. Carefully pull the glass out through the window slot. NOTE: Take care not to drop the glass inside the door. 3. Remove the glass run channel as needed, remove the bolts and screw, then move the rear channel forward. 4. Remove the quarter glass. NOTE: When installing the quarter glass, make sure the outer molding lip is not pinched. 5. Disconnect the connector, then remove the regulator through the hole in the door. 6. Grease all the sliding surfaces of the regulator where shown. 7. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. NOTE: Roll the glass up and down to see if it moves freely without binding. Also make sure that there is no clearance between the glass and glass run channel when the glass is closed. Adjust the position of the glass as necessary.
