4. Align crankshaft sprocket timing mark to the mark on oil pump housing (Fig. 122). NOTE: Lubricate timing chain and guides with engine oil before installation. 5. Place left side primary chain sprocket onto the chain so that the timing mark is located in-between the two (plated) timing links (Fig. 122). 6. Lower the primary chain with left side sprocket through the left cylinder head opening. NOTE: The camshaft sprockets can be allowed to float on the camshaft hub during installation 1 – CAMSHAFT TIMING MARKS 2 ? CHAIN GUIDE 3 – CRANKSHAFT TIMING MARKS 4 – CRANKSHAFT SPROCKET 5 – CHAIN TENSKJNER ARM 6 – CHAIN TENSIONER 7 – CAMSHAFT TIMING MARK 8 – INTAKE CAMSHAFT SPROCKETS 9 – CHAIN GUIDES 10 – WATER PUMP SPROCKET 7. Loosely position left side camshaft sprocket over camshaft hub. 8. Align timing (plated) link tq the crankshaft sprocket timing mark (Fig. 122). 9. Position primary chain onto water pump drive sprocket. 10. Align right camshaft sprocket timing mark to the timing (plated) link on the timing chain (Fig. 122) and loosely position over camshaft hub. 11. Verify that all chain timing (plated) links are properly aligned to the timing marks on all sprockets (Fig. 122). 12. Install left side lower chain guide and tensioner arm (Fig. 120). Tighten attaching bolts to 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.). NOTE: Inspect oil ring on chain guide access plug before installing. Replace O-ring as necessary. 13. Install chain guide access plug to left side cylinder head (Fig. 120). Tighten plug to 20 Nm (15 ft lbs.)

Linkage Measurement CAUTION: Before attempting to test the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS), verify the linkage adjustment dimension shown in the figure above. This dimension MUST be 126.5 mm (5.0 inches) BEFORE testing. For linkage adjustment procedures, refer to Throttle Linkage Adjustment. CAUTION: Before testing the TPS, verify that the engine is set at correct low idle speed. Refer to Idle Speed Adjustment. This can be found in the Fuel Delivery and Air Induction system adjustments section. 1. After confirming the correct linkage adjustment and idle speed, proceed to the following: Throttle Position Sensor Location 2. Attach a paper clip into the center terminal of the TPS electrical connector. Do not remove the connector from the TPS for this test. 3. Attach the positive lead of a voltmeter to this paper clip and the negative lead to a good ground. 4. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Do not start engine. 5. The voltage at the TPS center terminal should be 1.0 volt (+/- 0.2 volt) with linkage at idle position. The voltage at the wide open throttle position

The heater-A/C housing assembly must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled for service access of the blower motor, blower motor wheel, heater core, evaporator coil, blend-air door, and each of the various mode control doors. WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIR-BAGS, FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIR-BAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY. REMOVAL 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. 2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement, See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard / Instrument Panel/Service and Repair/Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement 3. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to: Heating and Air Conditioning, Service and Repair, Refrigerant Recovery, See: Service and Repair/Refrigerant Recovery 4. Remove the front expansion valve from the evaporator tube mounting flange. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings. Refer to: Heating and Air Conditioning, Expansion valve, Service and Repair, Expansion Valve Removal and Installation, See: Expansion Valve/Service and Repair 5. Drain the engine cooling system. 6. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes.

NOTE: Before starting this procedure, be certain to turn the steering wheel until the front wheels are in the straight-ahead position. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Remove the trim from the right and left front door sills. Remove the trim from the left and right cowl side inner panels. Remove the steering column opening cover from the instrument panel. See: Steering Column Opening Cover and Knee Blocker Replacement Remove the two screws that secure the inside hood latch release handle to the instrument panel lower reinforcement and lower the release handle to the floor. Disconnect the driver side airbag module wire harness connector from the instrument panel wire harness at the instrument panel lower reinforcement. If the vehicle is so equipped, disconnect the overdrive lockout switch wire harness connector from the instrument panel wire harness near the instrument panel lower reinforcement. Remove the steering column from the vehicle, but do not remove the driver side airbag module, the steering wheel, or the switches from the steering column. Be certain that the steering wheel is locked and secured from rotation to prevent the loss of clockspring centering. Refer to Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair. See: Steering and Suspension/Steering/Steering Column/Service and Repair From under the driver side of the instrument panel, perform the following: a. Remove the screw from the center of the headlamp and dash to instrument panel bulkhead wire harness connector and disconnect the connector. b. Disconnect the two body wire harness connectors from the two instrument panel wire harness connectors that are secured to the outboard side of the instrument panel bulkhead connector. c. Disconnect the three wire harness connectors (one from the body wire harness, and two from the headlamp and dash wire harness) from the three junction block connector receptacles located closest to the dash panel. d. Unsnap the plastic retainer clip that secures the park brake release linkage rod to the lever on the back side of the park brake release handle and disengage the linkage rod end from the lever on the handle. e. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector from the stop lamp switch connector receptacle. f. Disconnect the vacuum harness connector located near the left end of the heater-A/C housing. Remove the center support bracket from the instrument panel. See: Instrument Panel Center Support Bracket Replacement Remove the screw that secures the instrument panel wire harness ground eyelets to the left side of the Airbag Control Module (ACM) mount on the floor panel transmission tunnel. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connector from the ACM connector receptacle. Remove the glove box from the instrument panel. Refer to Body and Frame/Interior Trim/Glove Compartment/Service and Repair. See: Glove Compartment/Service and Repair Reaching through the instrument panel glove box opening, perform the following: a. Disconnect the two halves of the radio antenna coaxial cable connector near the center of the lower instrument panel glove box opening. b. Disengage the antenna half of the radio antenna coaxial cable from the retainer clip near the outboard side of the lower instrument panel glove box opening. c. Disconnect the blower motor wire harness connector located near the heater-A/C housing support brace on the inboard side of the instrument panel glove box opening. From under the passenger side of the instrument panel, perform the following: a. If the vehicle is so equipped, disconnect the two instrument panel wire harness connectors from the Infinity speaker amplifier connector receptacles on the right cowl side inner panel. b. Remove the nut that secures the instrument panel wire harness radio ground eyelet to the stud on the right cowl side inner panel. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. 13. 14. 15.
