1. Check the mass air flow sensor for damage and cracks. 2. Connect the New Generation Star tester to the data link connector. 3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. 4. Select the “PID/DATA MONITOR AND RECORD” function on the NGS tester display and press TRIGGER. 5. Select “MAF V” on the NGS tester display and press START. The NGS tester measures and show the voltage. 6. If not as specified, inspect the following. (1) Harness continuity Between PCM terminal 88 and mass air flow sensor terminal E Between PCM terminal 36 and mass air flow sensor terminal D Between PCM terminal 103 and mass air flow sensor terminal C Between main relay terminal E and mass air flow sensor terminal B (2) Terminal voltage Mass air flow sensor terminal B voltage: Battery positive voltage Mass air flow sensor terminal C voltage: Below 1.0 V 7. If the terminal voltage is correct and there is harness continuity, replace the mass air flow sensor.

Engine mount member Caution Support the engine before removing the member. 1. Suspend the engine by using a chain block. 2. Remove the engine mount No.2 nuts. 3. Remove the engine mount member bolts and nuts and remove the engine mount member. Removal note: Engine and transaxle assembly Caution Do not damage any components in the engine compartment. Lift the engine and transaxle assembly out as a unit.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION See Figures 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Remove the engine fan/clutch assembly and shroud. 3. Remove the accessory drive belt(s). 4. On those engines with a separate damper and pulley, remove the retaining bolts, then separate the crankshaft damper from the pulley. 5. Remove the pulley-to-crankshaft bolt and washer. Fig. Fig. 1: If necessary on some engines, assemble a puller to the damper … Fig. Fig. 2: … then tighten the center bolt to remove the damper from the crankshaft Fig. Fig. 3: Loosen the crankshaft pulley center nut by installing a small bolt on the outside of the pulley, using a prybar for holding force and a socket and breaker bar Fig. Fig. 4: Remove the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt Fig. Fig. 5: Remove the crankshaft pulley, keep the small bolt in for installation purposes 6. If necessary, use a puller tool to remove the damper/pulley from the crankshaft. 7. If equipped, remove the crankshaft key. To install: WARNING On MPV models equipped with the 3.0L engine, the crankshaft position sensor rotor is on the rear of the damper/pulley and can be easily damaged. 8. Inspect the front cover seal and replace if necessary. 9. On 3.0L (B Series Pick-up) and 4.0L engines, perform the following: a. Coat the rubbing surface of the damper/pulley with clean engine oil. b. Apply a small amount of RTV sealant to the damper keyway groove. c. On the B Series Pick-up with the 3.0L engine, use a crankshaft damper installation tool to press the damper onto the crankshaft. Install and tighten the retaining bolt to 93-121 ft. lbs. (125-165 Nm).

1. Apply silicone sealant to the engine front cover as shown in the figure. CAUTION: Install the engine front cover within 10 min of applying the silicone sealant. Silicone sealant is not need in area C as indicated below due to an existing. They are oil and a thing without adhesion of dust to a seal side. Thickness A: 2.2-3.2 mm {0.087-0.125 in} B: 1.5-2.5 mm {0.059-0.098 in} 2. Install the engine front cover bolts in the order shown in the figure. FRONT OIL SEAL INSTALLATION NOTE1. Apply clean engine oil to the oil seal. 2. Push the oil seal slightly in by hand. 3. Compress the oil seal using the SST and a hammer. NO. 3 ENGINE MOUNT RUBBER AND NO. 3 ENGINE MOUNT BRACKET INSTALLATION NOTE 1. Tighten the stud bolt of the No. 3 engine mount bracket. Tightening torque 7.0-13 N.m {71.4-132.5 kgf.cm, 62.0-115.0 in.lbf} NOTE: Tightening stud bolt when the nut of No. 3 engine mount nut is loosened. 2. Hand-tighten the No. 3 engine mount rubber and No. 3 engine mount bracket. 3. Tighten the bolts and nuts in the order as shown in the figure.

NO. 3 ENGINE MOUNT RUBBER REMOVAL NOTE 1. To install the front shaft (RH) of the SST (49 C017 5A0) , remove the clip shown the figure. 2. Install the SST using the following procedure. 1. Align the rear support rod hole of the SST to the shock absorber upper bolt. 2. Align the front support rod groove of the SST to the folded part of the frame. 3. Suspend the engine using the SST . CHAIN TENSIONER REMOVAL NOTE 1. Unlock the chain tensioner ratchet using a suitable screw driver or equivalent tool. 2. Slowly compress the tensioner piston. 3. Hold the tensioner piston using a 1.5 mm {0.059 in} wire or paper clip. OIL PUMP SPROCKET REMOVAL NOTE 1. Hold the oil pump sprocket using the SST . OIL PUMP SPROCKET INSTALLATION NOTE 1. Hold the oil pump sprocket using the SST . TIMING CHAIN INSTALLATION NOTE 1. Install the SST to the camshaft as shown in the figure. 2. Install the timing chain. 3. Remove the retaining wire or paper clip from the auto tensioner to apply tension to the timing chain.
