To ensure maximum drive belt life and proper component operation, replacement drive belts (8620) must be the same type and size as the original drive belts . When installing a new drive belt , ensure that it is properly seated on the pulleys. NOTE: Mark the direction of rotation on the drive belt with a marking pen to ensure correct installation if the drive belt is to be reused. Failure to do so may result in drive belt noise. Drive Belt, A/C Compressor Removal 1. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt. 2. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley adjustment bolt. 3. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt from the A/C compressor clutch pulley (2E884) , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley and the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Installation 1. Inspect the pulleys for warping or abnormal wear. Replace any damaged pulley. To replace the A/C compressor clutch pulley , refer to Section 12-03B. To replace crankshaft pulley , refer to Section 03-01. 2. Install the A/C compressor drive belt on the A/C compressor clutch pulley , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley, and crankshaft pulley . 3. Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt tension. Refer to the procedure in this section. 4. Tighten the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt securely. Drive Belt, Generator Removal 1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Remove the RH engine and transmission splash shield (6775) . 3. Loosen the inner and outer generator-to-generator regulator mounting bracket bolts. 4. Loosen the generator locking bolt.

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to the procedure in this section. 2. Remove the upper radiator hose bracket bolt and the upper radiator hose bracket. 3. Reposition the water bypass hose clamp and remove the water bypass hose (8597) from the water hose connection (8592) . 4. If equipped with A/C, remove the drier to evaporator liquid line bracket bolt and the drier to evaporator liquid line bracket to gain access to the water thermostat (8575) . 5. If equipped with A/C, remove the suction accumulator/drier bracket bolts and the suction accumulator/drier bracket. 6. If equipped with A/C, position the suction accumulator/drier (19C836) and drier to evaporator liquid line (19837) out of the way. 7. Remove the four water hose connection bolts and the water hose connection. 8. Remove the water thermostat from the thermostat housing. Installation 1. Clean the thermostat housing cover mating surface and groove of any remaining sealant. 2. Completely clean any coolant from these areas. 3. NOTE: Position the water hose connection on the thermostat housing within five minutes of applying the silicone sealant. Apply a continuous bead of silicone sealant to the inner surface and the perimeter of the water hose connection . The sealant should be 2.0-3.0mm (0.08-0.12 inch) wide on all sealing areas. 4. ISSUE Some vehicles built between 5/1/2001 and 12/15/2003 may exhibit water in the blower case or on the passenger side floor, an inoperative climate control blower motor, a motor that operates on high speed only, and/or a blower motor resistor failure. ACTION Inspect and seal cowl area and install Rain-Hat Extension Seal. Inspect and replace blower motor and/or blower motor resistor if there is evidence of water/corrosion. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details. SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Access blower motor and resistor per the Workshop Manual Sections 412-02 and 412-04. Inspect for evidence of water/corrosion. If water/corrosion are found or parts have failed, replace per Workshop Manual (blower motor 1F1Z-19805-AA and resistor F6DZ-19A706-AA). 2. Visually inspect the Cowl Vent Screen located under the RH windshield wiper to verify if the screen is fully seated. Inspect the rubber seal on the vent screen which should be fully seated against the windshield. If the cowl vent screen is not fully seated and appears warped, it must be replaced (4F1Z-54018A16-BAA). Remove the cowl vent screen per the Workshop Manual Section 412-01 Pollen Filter Removal and inspect the cabin filter to confirm it is fully seated. Re-seat the filter as necessary. Inspect rain-hat base to make sure it is secure and sealed to the body. Reposition and reseal as necessary using Clear Silicone Rubber TA-32. Remove the foam sealant expulsion at lower front outboard corner base of the rain-hat (Figure 1).
