CARAVAN, TOWN & COUNTRY, & VOYAGER The dual, 2-speed cooling fans operate simultaneously and are turned on when coolant temperature becomes excessive or A/C head pressure indicates A/C operation. Fan should not operate during engine cranking. With A/C off, cooling fans turn on or off when coolant temperature sensor signals PCM that coolant temperature has reached a specified temperature. Regardless of vehicle speed, fans will turn off when coolant temperature drops. COOLING FAN MOTOR NOTE: If fan motor is noticeably overheated, system voltage may be too high. Check charging system. Disconnect cooling fan motor harness connector. Observe correct polarity. Connect battery voltage to fan motor harness connector terminals. See Fig. 1 or Fig. 2 . If cooling fan motor fails to operate, replace fan motor.

1. Raise vehicle on hoist and remove right front wheel. Remove right inner splash panel. Remove accessory drive belts. Remove crankshaft vibration damper. 2. Remove generator drive belt idler pulley. Remove lower timing belt cover. 3. Remove right engine support assembly vertical bolts from bottom of frame rail (timing belt end of engine). 4. Lower vehicle. Remove upper timing belt cover. Place floor jack under vehicle to support weight of engine and transaxle assembly. Remove 3 bolts attaching engine mount assembly to engine bracket. 5. Move A/C drier aside. Remove coolant reservoir tank. Remove right engine mount. Remove 3 bolts attaching engine mount bracket to engine block. CAUTION: Align timing marks by rotating crankshaft only. Do not rotate camshaft after timing belt is removed, or engine damage may result. 6. Rotate crankshaft clockwise to align timing marks on camshafts and oil pump housing. See Fig. 1 . CAUTION: Crankshaft sprocket mark must be located on trailing edge of sprocket tooth. Failure to align trailing edge of sprocket tooth with oil pump housing mark will cause camshaft marks to be misaligned. 7. On models equipped with hydraulic tensioner, remove hydraulic tensioner bolts and remove tensioner. Place hydraulic tensioner in vise, and SLOWLY compress tensioner plunger. Align the holes in the tensioner body and plunger, and insert a pin through the body and plunger to lock the plunger in place. Skip next step. 8. On models with a mechanical timing belt tensioner, insert a 6-mm Allen wrench into tensioner. Insert long end of 3-mm Allen wrench into pin hole on front of tensioner. While rotating the tensioner counterclockwise, push in lightly on the 3-mm Allen wrench until it can be pushed into locking hole. See Fig. 2 . 9. On all models, if reusing old timing belt, mark belt with arrow to indicate original direction of rotation. Remove timing belt.

Using a functional key fob transmitter, unlock the vehicle and disarm the Vehicle Theft Security System. Insert ignition key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch to RUN position with- out starting engine. Using a functional key fob transmitter, press and hold the UNLOCK button for a minimum 4 seconds (maximum 10 seconds). While holding UNLOCK button, and before 10 seconds passes, press and release the PANIC button. A single chime will sound to verify that the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module is set to receive the new Vehicle Access Code(s). 6. Within 30 seconds of the chime, press any button on each new key fob transmitter. After 30 seconds or when ignition switch is turned OFF, the RKE module will end the programming mode. A single chime will sound to verify that the RKE module will no longer receive additional Vehicle Access Code(s). 7. When Vehicle Access Code(s) programming is complete, turn Ignition Switch to the OFF position and verify RKE system operation using each key fob. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. NOTE: Only the primary (first two) key fob transmitters will operate the memory seat and mirror systems. If a primary key fob is being replaced, the memory seat and mirror module will require programming. Refer to Power Seats for proper (data link) programming procedure.
