2002 and 2003MY Impreza WRX models registered in 16 “cold weather” states located in NOAA Climate Zone 1. The affected states are: Alaska, Colorado, Iowa, Idaho, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, South Dakota, Vermont, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. In extremely cold temperatures, a certain engine fuel line/hose may temporarily seep some fuel during initial cold engine start up. If this condition occurs, vehicle occupants may notice the smell of fuel. To correct this condition, affected vehicles will require replacement of the engine fuel delivery line and hose. A special repair parts kit is available and contains all parts needed to complete this repair.

Steering Roll Connector Lot Number Verification 1) Start the engine and rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees from a straight-ahead position (either left or right rotation). Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position 2) Adjust the tilt position to the lowest position and lock the tilt lever. Remove the upper steering column cover screw on one side, rotate the steering wheel 90 degrees and remove the screw on the other side. 3) Release the claws and detach the steering column lower cover. 4) Confirm the steering roll connector lot number located on the left side of the connector. Affected Lot numbers Steering Roll Connectors requiring replacement were produced on or before October 13, 2009. Target Lot Numbers: 9X13A or before. How to read the Steering roll connector Lot number: Lot #: Five Characters Steering roll connector replacement 1) Position the front wheels straight ahead. (After moving vehicle 5 m (16 ft) or more with front wheels positioned straight ahead, make sure that the vehicle moves straight ahead). 2) Record preset radio stations 3) Turn the ignition switch to OFF. 4) Disconnect the ground cable from the battery and wait at least 60 seconds before proceeding. 5) Remove the driver’s airbag module assembly. cooler Hose replacement Procedure 1) Place vehicle on lift. 2) Remove the engine under cover. Hose clamp location 3) Squeeze the hose clamps and reposition to remove the hose. Confirm the direction and angle of the original hose clamps before removal. It is important to reinstall clamps in their original position. 4) Place a drain pan under the hose to collect any CVTF which may leak out. caution: if the cVtF has spilled onto the exhaust pipe or body frame, wipe it off with a rag to avoid dripping fluid. 5) Remove the inlet cooler hose. Note: Be extremely careful not to damage the pipe. 6) Make sure the cooler hose pipe ends are clean prior to installing a new hose. 7) Install a new hose reusing the original hose clamps. Note: Do not permit the end of the hose to extend past the raised lip section of the pipe. Be sure to place the hose clamps in their original position. If the original hose clamps are damaged or deformed, replace as necessary. note: Neither replenishment of transmission fluid nor inspection of fluid level will be neces- sary during replacement of the hose unless the original hose was found to be leaking fluid. Approx. 50cc through 70cc of fluid may be lost during hose replacement. The amount of fluid remaining will still keep the necessary level with sufficient reserve margin. check and add cVtF cAution: • CVTF level changes along with CVTF temperature. When inspecting CVTF level, observe the specified CVTF temperature. • Always use specified CVTF or equivalent. Using other fluid except for specified or equivalent will cause malfunction.

1. Once the engine has been allowed to cool, disconnect the negative battery cable, relieve fuel system pressure and drain engine coolant, referring to the appropriate vehicle service manual for the procedure on doing so. 2. First the factory manifold must be removed using the following steps, for specific details and instructions refer to the factory service manual. 3. Remove the turbo intercooler (top mount only) and air intake duct. 4. Disconnect all the wiring harness connections, noting where each goes. 5. Remove the bolts holding accessories and brackets to the manifold. 6. Disconnect all vacuum lines from the manifold, noting where each goes. 7. Remove the tumbler valve bolts connecting them to the heads, keeping the intake bolted to the top of the tumbler valve. In some cases it may be easier to remove the tumbler valves from the intake manifold. 8. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel rail assembly located on the driver side by the firewall, placing clean shop towels around the fuel lines to catch any gasoline that may be spilled during their removal 9. Carefully lift off the intake manifold, tumbler valve, OE fuel rail assembly. 10. Remove the three bolts holding the OE fuel lines to the bottom of the intake manifold. 11. Remove the four bolts holding the OE fuel rails to the tumbler valves. 12. Remove the OE fuel rail assembly from the intake manifold assembly, being careful not to damage the fuel injector pipe insulator between the bottom of the OE fuel rail and the tumbler valve. Fuel Injector Pipe Insulator 13. Remove each of the injector spring clips.
