1996 Ford Windstar Mirror Power Outside Rear View Removal and Installation

1. Remove the front door trim panel (23942). Refer to Section 01-05. Peel back the water shield if necessary to gain access to the mirror wiring connector. 2. Disconnect the wiring connector. Remove rear view mirror mounting hole cover (17K709) located above the front door trim panel (inside window sail cover) by using a flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry off. 3. Remove the three nuts retaining the outside rear view mirror (17682) to the front door (20124). 4. Pull outside rear view mirror away from the front door while guiding the wiring out of the front door. 5. To install, reverse Removal procedure. Tighten nuts to 6-8 Nm (54-70 lb-in). Glass, Outside Mirror Removal NOTE: Power mirror and manual mirror glass replacement procedure ar similar. 1. Push in on the bottom of the glass until it stops. 2. Protect the mirror body with a rag or similar material at the top and insert a flat blade screwdriver between the mirror body and glass. 3. Pry on the glass until it snaps loose from motor assembly. Disconnect the heater wires from the glass, if equipped. 4. Remove the screwdriver and continue to pull the glass by hand until it is completely unsnapped from the motor assembly. Installation 1. Make sure the rubber gasket on the motor is properly installed on the motor assembly. 2. Reconnect heater wires to glass. 3. Position the glass assembly in the mirror, and push on the center of the glass to snap it in place. Push on glass until it is fully seated. Trim Cover Removal and Installation 1. Remove the rear view mirror mounting hole cover, located above the front door trim panel by using a flat blade screwdriver to carefully pry off. Care should be taken not to scratch paint. 2. To install, snap rear view mirror mounting hole cover into place. Be careful not to damage clips. Mirror Control Removal and Installation 1. Remove driver front door trim panel with mirror switch pigtail still attached to harness. 2. Reach around front door trim panel and disconnect switch harness from the main wire harness. 3. Using a small flat blade screwdriver, pry the outside rear view mirror control switch up from the front door trim panel. 4. Remove outside rear view mirror control (17B676).

1. If equipped, remove the floor duct panel. Remove the two plastic push pins (one each side) and release the expander clip. 2. If equipped, remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12 . 3. Remove the RH instrument panel brace. 1. Remove the lower nut. 2. Remove the upper bolt. 3. Remove the brace. 4. Remove the LH instrument panel lower nut and position brace aside. 5. Remove the floor duct. 1. Remove the two screws (one each side). 2. Remove the floor duct. 6. NOTE: Rotate the vacuum control motor to disconnect the vacuum control motor rod from the panel/floor door. Remove the panel/floor door vacuum control motor (18A318). 1. Disconnect the vacuum line connector. 2. Remove the panel/floor door vacuum control motor screws. 3. Slide the rod out to the door and remove the panel/floor door vacuum control motor. 7. Remove the electronic actuator. 1. Disconnect the electronic actuator electrical connector. 2. Remove the three actuator screws. 3. Pull down to release the actuator shaft and remove the electronic actuator.

1997 Mercury Villager Oil Pan Removal Installation

1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Place a suitable container underneath the oil pan drain plug (6730). Remove the oil pan drain plug and allow the engine oil to drain into the container. After the oil has drained out of the oil pan (6675) install the oil pan drain plug. Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 29-39 Nm (22-29 lb-ft). 3. NOTE: Cover the screw-type jack with a shop rag to prevent damage to the crankshaft pulley (6312). Position a screw-type jack at the crankshaft pulley to support the engine (6007). 4. Remove the front engine support insulator through bolt. 5. Remove the rear engine support insulator through bolt. 6. Remove the two rear refrigerant/heater pipe hold-down bracket bolts. 7. Remove the the four transverse member bolts, and remove the transverse member from the vehicle. 8. Remove the exhaust inlet pipe. Refer to Section 09-00 for the removal procedure. 9. Remove the four rear transaxle-to-engine brace bolts. 10. Remove the five front transaxle-to-engine brace bolts. 11. Remove the front transaxle-to-engine brace. 12. Remove the 18 oil pan bolts in the sequence shown. 13. Remove the oil pan. Discard the oil pan seals (6722).

1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). 2. Remove the generator drive belt, water pump and power steering pump drive belt, and the A/C compressor drive belt (if equipped). Refer to Section 03-05 for the removal procedure. 3. Remove the timing chain/belt (6268). Refer to the procedure in this section. 4. Raise and support the vehicle. 5. Place a suitable container underneath the oil pan drain plug (6730). Remove the oil pan drain plug and allow the engine oil to drain into the container. After the oil has drained out of the oil pan (6675) install the oil pan drain plug. Tighten the oil pan drain plug to 29-39 Nm (22-29 lb-ft). 6. Remove the generator regulator mounting bracket-to-oil pump bolt and position the generator regulator mounting bracket (10337) aside. 7. Remove the power steering pump bracket bolts and power steering pump bracket (3A732). Position the power steering pump (3A674) aside. 8. Remove the crankshaft pulley (6312). Refer to the procedure in this section. 9. Remove the outer timing chain/belt guide, the crankshaft sprocket (6306), and the inner timing chain/belt guide. 10. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector. 11. Remove the three oil filter adapter bolts and the oil filter adapter (6881). Discard the two oil filter adapter O-rings. 12. Remove the oil pan. Refer to the procedure in this section.

To ensure maximum drive belt life and proper component operation, replacement drive belts (8620) must be the same type and size as the original drive belts . When installing a new drive belt , ensure that it is properly seated on the pulleys. NOTE: Mark the direction of rotation on the drive belt with a marking pen to ensure correct installation if the drive belt is to be reused. Failure to do so may result in drive belt noise. Drive Belt, A/C Compressor Removal 1. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt. 2. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley adjustment bolt. 3. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt from the A/C compressor clutch pulley (2E884) , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley and the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Installation 1. Inspect the pulleys for warping or abnormal wear. Replace any damaged pulley. To replace the A/C compressor clutch pulley , refer to Section 12-03B. To replace crankshaft pulley , refer to Section 03-01. 2. Install the A/C compressor drive belt on the A/C compressor clutch pulley , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley, and crankshaft pulley . 3. Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt tension. Refer to the procedure in this section. 4. Tighten the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt securely. Drive Belt, Generator Removal 1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Remove the RH engine and transmission splash shield (6775) . 3. Loosen the inner and outer generator-to-generator regulator mounting bracket bolts. 4. Loosen the generator locking bolt.
