General Precautions (Cont’d) After disconnecting vacuum or air hoses, attach a tag to indicate the proper connection. • Use only the fluids and the lubricants specified in MA sec- tion and HA section or their equivalents • Use approved bonding agent, sealants or their equivalents when required • Use tools and recommended special tools where specified for safe and efficient service repairs. • When repairing the fuel, oil, water, vacuum or exhaust systems, check all affected lines for leaks. • Dispose of drained oil or the solvent used for cleaning parts in an appropriate manner. • Precautions for Multiport Fuel Injection System or ECCS Engine Sefore connecting or disconnecting multiport fuel injection system or ECM (ECCS control module) harness connector, be sure to turn the ignition switch to the “OFF” position and disconnect the negative battery terminal Otherwise, there may be damage to ECM. • Before disconnecting pressurized fuel line from fuel pump to injectors, be sure to release fuel pressure to eliminate danger • Be careful not to jar components such as ECM and mass air flow sensor • Precautions for Three Way Catalyst If a large amount of unburned fuel flows into the converter, the converter temperature wfll be excessively high. To prevent this, follow the procedure below: 1. Use unleaded gasoline only. Leaded gasoline will seri- ously damage the three way catalyst. 2. When checking for ignition spark or measuring engine compression, make tests quickly and onfy when neces- sary. 3. Do not run engine when the fuel tank level is low, other- wise the engine may misfire causing damage lo Ihe con- verter. Do not place the vehicle on flammable material. Keep flamma- ble material off the exhaust pipe and the three way catalyst Precautions for Turbocharger The turbocharger turbine revolves at extremely high speeds and becomes very hot. Therefore, it is essential to maintain a clean supply of oil flowing through the turbocharger and to follow all required maintenance instructions and operating procedures. For proper operation of Ihe system, follow the procedure below. 1 Always use the recommended oil. Follow the instructions for proper time to change the oil and proper oil level 2. Avoid accelerating engine to a high rpm immediately after starting. 3. If engine had been operating at high rpm for an extended period of time, let it idle for a few minutes prior [o shutting it off. Engine Oils Prolonged and repealed contact with used engine oil may cause skin cancer. Try to avoid direct skin contact with used oil. If skin contact is made, wash thoroughly with soap or hand cleaner as soon as possible HEALTH PROTECTION PRECAUTIONS • Avoid prolonged and repeated contact with oils, particu- larly used engine oils, • Wear protective clothing, including impervious gloves where practicable. • Do not put oily rags in pockets • Avoid contaminating clothes, particularly underpants, with oil. • Heavily sailed clothing and oil-impregnated footwear should not be worn. Overalls must be cleaned regularly • First Aid treatment shouid be obtained immediately for open cuts and wounds • Use barrier creams, applying them before each work period, to help the removal of oil from the skin • Wash with soap and water to ensure all oil is removed (skin cleansers and nail brushes will help). Preparations containing lanolin replace the natural skin oils which have been removed • Do not use gasoline, kerosine, diesel fuel, gas oil, Ihinners or solvents for cleaning skin • If skin disorders develop, obtain medical advice without delay • Where practicable, degrease components prior to han- dling • Where there is a risk of eye contact, eye protection should be worn, for example, chemical goggles or face shields; in addition an eye wash facility should be provided. i-v ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION PRECAUTIONS Burning used engine oil in small space heaters or boilers can . be recommended only for units of approved design The heat- ing system must meet the requirements of HM Inspectorate ol Pollution for small burners of less than 0,4 MW. If in doubt check with Ihe appropriate local authority and/or manufacturer of the approved appliance. Dispose of used oil and used oil fillers through authorized . waste disposal contractors to licensed waste disposal sites, or to the waste oil reclamation trade. Some 2004 – 2009 model year Highlander, 2001 – 2005 model year RAV4, and 2004 – 2010 model year Sienna AWD (4WD) vehicles may display a transmission ?uid or gear oil seepage from a vent on the right side of the transfer case. The seepage is from the transfer RH (right-hand) bearing retainer No. 2 oil seal. Production improvements have been implemented to prevent this condition from occurring. Follow the repair procedure in this bulletin to replace the RH bearing retainer No. 2 oil seal assembly. Transmission Fluid or Gear Oil Seepage from Transfer Case Vent (AWD) Repair Procedure: Removal 1. Con?rm source of gear oil/transmission ?uid seepage is from vent on RH bearing retainer. 2. Remove the engine assembly with transaxle. Remove the transfer case No. 1 plug and remove the gasket from the plug. 5. Remove the transfer drain plug and remove the gasket from the drain plug. 6. Remove the transfer assembly. A. Remove the 2 bolts and 6 nuts. B. Using a plastic hammer, drive out the transfer assembly from the transaxle assembly. NOTICE • Disconnect the transfer assembly from the transaxle assembly without tilting. • When moving the transfer assembly, do NOT hold the assembly by the oil seals.

Introduction Some 2010 Prius vehicles may experience rear brake squeak when backing up or moving forward during the ?rst few brake applications when the brakes are cold. An updated rear brake shim kit is available to reduce the likelihood of this condition occurring. Repair Procedure 1. Test drive the vehicle to con?rm the squeak is coming from the rear brakes. The condition occurs more frequently when backing up during light brake pedal application after cold soak. 2. Remove rear brake shims. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2010 Prius Repair Manual: Brake – Brake (Rear) Brake: Rear Brake: Removal 3. Clean the rear brake pad backing plates with a clean shop towel and apply a small amount of black disc brake grease to the backing plate of each rear brake pad. NOTE Make sure disc brake grease is not applied to the lining of the rear brake pads. 4. Install the No. 1 Anti-squeal shims. Install the No. 2 Anti-squeal shims. Figure 3. 5. Using the Variable Pin Wrench (SST 09960-10010), slowly rotate the caliper piston until the piston groove is positioned as shown in the illustration below. 6. Install new rear brake anti-squeal shims with brake pads into the rear caliper assemblies brackets. Refer to (TIS), 2010 Prius Repair Manual: Brake – Brake (Rear) Brake: Rear Brake: Installation NOTE • When installing the rear disc brake caliper assembly on the rear disc brake caliper mounting bracket, ensure the protrusion on the brake pad is centered in the caliper piston groove. • It is important to ensure the protrusion is not contacting the outer edges of the caliper piston groove. (both sides) 7. Road test the vehicle to con?rm the condition has been reduced.

Introduction Some 2009 model year Venza vehicles may experience a condition where the front or rear door panel trim delaminates. Improved door panels have been developed to correct this condition. Figure 1. Repair Procedure Front Door 1. Disconnect the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. 2. Using a molding remover, disengage the 3 claws and remove the front door inside handle bezel plug. 3. Remove the power window regulator master switch assembly with front door armrest base panel (for Driver Side). A. Using a molding remover, disengage the 2 clips and 4 claws. B. Disconnect the connector and remove the power window regulator master switch assembly with front door armrest base panel. 4. Remove the power window regulator switch assembly with front door armrest base panel (for passenger side). A. Using a molding remover, disengage the 2 clips and 4 claws. B. Disconnect the connector and remove the power window regulator switch assembly with front door armrest base panel. 5. Remove the courtesy light assembly. A. Using a plastic pry tool, disengage the claw. B. Disconnect the connector and remove the courtesy light assembly. 6. Remove the front door trim board sub-assembly. A. Remove the 2 screws. B. Using a clip remover, disengage the 10 clips. C. Pull out the front door trim board sub-assembly in the direction indicated by the arrow as shown in the illustration. D. Raise the front door trim board sub-assembly and remove the front door trim board sub-assembly together with the front door inner glass weatherstrip.
