2.8 Liter VR6 2V Fuel Injection & Ignition, Engine Code(s): AFP 24 – Multiport Fuel Injection (MFI) Servicing ignition system => Page 28-1 Note: The Engine Control Module (ECM) has On Board Diagnostic (OBD) capability. Before carrying out troubleshooting and repairs, DTC memory must be checked. Vacuum hoses and connections must also be checked (unmetered air). Fuel lines in the engine compartment must only be secured using spring type clips. The use of clamp or screw type clips is not permissible. Components marked with a * are checked via the On Board Diagnostic (OBD) => Page 01-32. Components marked with a **can be checked with output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) => Page 01-68. For trouble-free operation of the electrical components, a voltage of at least 11.5 V is necessary. Do not use sealants containing silicone. Particles of silicone drawn into the engine will not be burned in the engine and will damage the oxygen sensor. When performing some repairs, it is possible that the control module will recognize a malfunction and store a DTC. After completing all checks and repairs DTC memory must be checked and, if necessary, erased ( => Page 01-32), and the readiness code must be generated ( => Page 01-95). Front Side Marker Lamps Side marker lamp function via LED which cannot be serviced or replaced separately. Should LED malfunction, replace entire side marker lamp housing LED array. Removing CAUTION! Switch off all electrical consumers. Switch ignition off and remove ignition key. Turn light switch to “0″ position. Remove screws – arrows – . Move loosened part of wheel housing liner – 1 – to side. Reach behind bumper cover and press light – 1 – out of bumper cover – arrow – . Disconnect electrical connection – 2 – . Installing Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following: Insert guide in mount on bumper cover – arrow A – . Connect electrical connection – 2 – and press cornering light – 1 – into bumper cover until it engages audibly – arrow B – . Install screws for front wheel housing liner Body Exterior – Repair Group 66 .

Removing Remove toothed belt from camshaft sprockets => Page 13-19. Remove camshaft sprockets from cylinder bank 5-8. Loosen bolts -1-. Remove bolts -2- and toothed belt cover. Remove cylinder head cover => Page 15-2. Remove Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor, item -30- and CMP rotor, item -27- => Page 15-35. Check TDC position of camshafts: Both markings on camshafts must align with arrows on bearing caps. When re-using drive chain: Clean drive chain and camshaft sprockets. Mark position with paint. CAUTION! DO NOT mark chain with punch or scriber, use paint only. Continuation Secure camshaft adjuster with bracket for chain tensioning tool 3366. CAUTION! Do not over-tighten bracket for chain tensioning tool, otherwise camshaft adjuster may be damaged Regardless of how bearing caps are marked, mark sequence and installation position of all bearing caps as shown in illustration. Remove bolts for camshaft adjuster -arrow-. Remove bearing cap 0. Remove bearing caps 1, 3, 5, 7 and 8 and place in order on clean surface. Loosen bearing caps 2, 4,and 6 diagonally and remove. Remove camshafts with camshaft adjuster. Installing Install camshaft adjuster in reverse order of removal but note the following: Replace half-round cap.

Top section of reservoir, removing – Remove left engine cover – 1 – . – Where applicable, remove overflow hose – 2 – from reservoir – 3 – . – Remove nut – 1 – and bolt – 4 – . – Pull top section of reservoir upwards out of bottom section. Bottom section of reservoir, removing – Remove left front wheel. – Remove left front wheel housing liner:::::> Body Exterior – Repair Group 66 . – Remove bottom section of reservoir – 2 – - arrows – . – Swivel bottom section of reservoir slightly to rear. Note: • If it is not possible to swivel bottom section of reservoir, remove bolt – 4 – and detach cross member – 1 – . - Where applicable, detach overflow hose – 3 – from reservoir section. – Disconnect electrical connections – 2 … 4 – . – Press release tab and pull off hose connector – 1 – . – Pull off washer fluid pipe – 5 – . – Remove washer fluid reservoir downwards. Installing Washer fluid reservoir – Audi A4 84, removing and installing Install in reverse order of removal, noting the following: Note: • Clean thread of bolts from remnants of locking fluid using wire brush. Then apply locking fluid and fit bolts. Locking fluid Parts Catalog. • Clean tapped holes from remnants of self-locking bolts or locking fluid (e.g. using a thread tap). Otherwise the bolts can shear off if they have to be removed again later. – When installing, ensure that the water hose audibly engages in the connection on the washer fluid pump. – Tighten bolts in sequence – 1 … 3 – . Rear Door Trim Panel Removal 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. NOTE: Use care not to damage the trim panel when removing the screws. Remove the screws. 3. Remove the handle. 4. Remove the screws. 5. Remove the rear door trim panel. 6. Disconnect the electrical connector. 7. Disconnect the color-coded clips from the bracket. Installation 1. Connect the clips to the pull-strap. The silver retainer clip goes toward the front of the vehicle. The green retainer clip goes toward the rear of the vehicle. 2. Follow the removal procedure in reverse order.
