1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. WARNING: Fuel supply lines will remain pressurized for long periods of time after engine shut down. This pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines or fuel system components. Relieve the fuel system pressure. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00. 3. Remove the engine air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 4. Remove the timing belt. For additional information, refer to Timing Drive Components—Timing Belt in this section. 5. Remove the vacuum hoses at the: positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) valve (6A666). throttle body (9E926). intake manifold (9424). fuel pressure sensor. 6. Disconnect the fuel charging wiring (9D930) electrical connectors at main engine connector. 7. Disconnect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor electrical connector. 8. Disconnect the fuel line. For additional information, refer to Section 303-04. 9. Remove the power steering pump (3A674) and bracket as an assembly. For additional information, refer to Section 211-02. 10. Remove the generator (GEN). For additional information, refer to Section 414-02. 11. Remove the oil level indicator tube (6754). For additional information, refer to Oil Level Indicator and Tube in this section. 12. Disconnect the heater hoses. For additional information, refer to Section 412-02. 13. Lower the vehicle. 14. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (8260) from the thermostat housing water hose connection. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 15. Remove the camshafts (6250). For additional information, refer to Camshaft in this section. 16. Remove the ignition coil (12029) and bracket. For additional information, refer to Section 303-07. 17. Remove the water thermostat housing. For additional information, refer to Section 303-03. 18. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector.

Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. For additional information, refer to Section 303-12. 4. Disconnect the fuel line. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00A or Section 310-00B. 5. Remove the wiper arm and pivot shaft. For additional information, refer to Section 501-16. 6. Remove the drive belt. For additional information, refer to Section 303-05. 7. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 8. Disconnect the electrical connector at the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor. Disconnect the pin-type retainer from the A/C compressor bracket. 9. Disconnect the electrical connector from the A/C compressor. 10. Remove the oil bypass filter. 11. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor electrical connector and the power steering pressure (PSP) switch electrical connector. 12. Disconnect the exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) tube from the exhaust manifold.

All vehicles 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. 2. Partially drain the cooling system. For additional information, refer toSection 303-03. 3. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir bracket. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Position the power steering fluid reservoir bracket out of the way. 4. Remove the accelerator control splash shield. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the accelerator control splash shield. 5. Disconnect the fuel pressure regulator vacuum hose. CAUTION: After disconnecting, plug the fuel lines to prevent leakage. 6. Disconnect the fuel lines. For additional information, refer to Section 310-00. 7. Disconnect the eight fuel injector electrical connectors. 8. Disconnect the eight ignition coil electrical connectors. 9. Remove the brake booster bracket and tube. 1. Remove the nut. 2. Release and move the two hose clamps. 3. Remove the brake booster tube. 10. Remove the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) hose. For vehicles equipped with 4.6L engine 11. Disconnect the differential pressure feedback exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) connector, then disconnect the upper and lower EGR valve tube fitting.

Removal CAUTION: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure can result in major service expense. A new part with the same part number must be used if installation is necessary. Do not use a new part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts. All vehicles 1. CAUTION: Discard the wheel hub retainer (3B477). It is a torque prevailing design and cannot be reused. If loosened, the retainer must be removed and a new one installed. NOTE: Make sure the steering wheel is in the unlocked position. Remove the hub cap or wheel cover, the wheel hub retainer, and the washer. Discard the retainer. 2. Remove the front brake disc. For additional information, refer to Section 206-03. 3. Remove and discard the cotter pin and nut. 4. CAUTION: Do not damage the tie-rod end boot when installing the special tool. NOTE: Remove the adapter from the ball end of the special tool. Apply a small amount of grease to the tie-rod end stud and the ball of the special tool. Using the special tools, disconnect the tie-rod end. Vehicles equipped with ABS 5. Remove the bolt and detach the ABS sensor. 6. Unclip the ABS sensor wire retainer and position the sensor out of the way. All vehicles 7. Remove and discard the nut. 8. Remove and discard the nut. 9. Using the special tools, disconnect the ball joint from the lower arm. 10. Using a pry bar, push the lower arm down until the ball joint is free of the arm. 11. CAUTION: Do not allow the halfshaft to move outboard. Over-extension of the tripod CV joint can result in separation of internal parts, causing failure of the halfshaft.

1. Drill out four license plate rivets (if required). 2. Remove fog lamps (15200) (if equipped). 3. Remove two nuts and two screws retaining front bumper (17757) to each front fender (16005). 4. Remove one screw (3 on Cobra) retaining front bumper cover (17D957) to each front fender splash shield (16102). 5. Remove three pushpins retaining front bumper cover to radiator support (16138). 6. Remove two upper blind rivets retaining front bumper cover to radiator grille opening panel reinforcement (8A284). Front Bumper Cover 7. Remove two rivets retaining front bumper cover support (17C947) to front bumper. Remove center pins from rivets using a drift punch. Remove the remainder of the rivets using a drill. Use care not to enlarge the retaining holes in the sheet metal. 8. Remove LH and RH headlamp bulbs (13007). Refer to Section 17-01. 9. Insert a thin screwdriver blade between the underside of the front bumper cover and the radiator grille opening panel reinforcement to release the front bumper cover locking tabs on both LH and RH sides, underneath the headlamp opening. Remove the front bumper cover while the lock tabs are lifted. Front Bumper Cover Removal 11.
