Tests/Procedures: 1. Check the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) powers and grounds. Powers are at pins #102, 103, 107 and 110. Grounds are pins 101 and 106. 2. Check the ECU control of the Multi-port Injection (MPI) relay. At start-up, the ECU grounds pins 56 and 63 3. If good, replace the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). AXLE SHAFTS – FRONT 1991-92 DRIVE AXLES FWD Axle Shafts Axle shafts transfer power from transaxle to drive wheels. Axle shafts consist of a shaft and flexible Constant Velocity (CV) joint at each end. See Fig. 1 . Inner CV joint is splined to transaxle. Outer CV joint is splined to hub assembly and secured by wheel bearing lock nut. Inner CV joint is a plunging tripod joint. The plunging action allows for axle shaft length change as suspension Inner and outer CV joints are enclosed by a CV joint boot. The boot maintains lubrication in the joint and prevents contamination of CV lubricant. Boots must be replaced when leakage or cracks are present. The inner CV joint can be repaired without replacing assembly. The outer CV joint must be replaced as an assembly.

PARKING BRAKE DISC PADS Removal & Installation (XJS) Remove parking brake caliper. See PARKING BRAKE CALIPER R & I under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Remove pad-to-carrier mount nut. Note pad position and remove disc pads. See Fig. 4 . To install, reverse removal procedure. Repeatedly operate handbrake actuating lever until adjuster ratchet stops
. PARKING BRAKE CALIPER Removal (XJS) 1. Raise and support vehicle. Fully release parking brake lever. Loosen parking brake cable adjusting lock nuts and back-off cable adjustment. Remove rear suspension mounting plate attaching nuts and bolts. Plate has 14 bolts and is located directly below differential carrier. 2. Remove rear suspension mounting plate from vehicle. Using a pry bar, move caliper arm toward center of vehicle. Disconnect parking brake cable from arm and slide back rubber sleeve. See Fig. 2 .

1. Disconnect battery ground cable. 2. Remove air cleaner assembly. 3. Remove radiator upper fan shroud from radiator. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. Move drive belt tensioner to loose side using wrench then remove drive belt. Remove cooling fan assembly four nuts, then the cooling fan assembly. Remove cooling fan drive pulley assembly. Remove idle pulley assembly. Remove serpentine belt tensioner assembly. Remove power steering pump assembly. Remove crankshaft pulley assembly using J-8614-01 crankshaft holder, hold crankshaft pulley remove center bolt, then the pulley. Remove right side timing belt cover then left side timing belt cover. Remove lower timing belt cover. 1998 Isuzu Truck Rodeo LS (2WD) V6-3.2L 13. Remove pusher. CAUTION: The pusher prevents air from entering the oil chamber. Its rod must always be facing upward. 14. Remove timing belt. CAUTION: 1. Do not bend or twist the belt, otherwise its core could be damaged. The belt should not be bent at a radius less than 30 mm. 2. Do not allow oil or other chemical substances to come in contact with the belt. They will shorten the life. 3. Do not attempt to pry or stretch the belt with a screw driver or any other tool during installation. 4. Store timing belt in a cool and dark place. Never expose the belt direct sunlight or heat. high/erratic idle and/or the MIL light on. In some cases, vacuum leak noise may be heard as well. There may be poor contact or loss of contact at various main ground points or electrical connections. Power steering pressure switch may be shorted with debris. Inlet manifold gasket may be leaking. Broadcast code and calibration part number may need to be updated. To correct this condition, follow the procedures outlined in this bulletin to determine proper diagnosing, inspection and correction of ground contact points for proper electrical contact, power steering pressure switch cleaning or replacement and power steering system flush, replacement of inlet manifold gasket, and/or PCM reprogramming. SERVICE PROCEDURE Please refer to the appropriate workshop manual for the correct diagnosing procedure and/or follow the service procedures outlined in this bulletin for the vehicle being serviced. 1. Inspect main ground points (refer to SB99-04-S001 for more information). P6 ground point-body [on the passenger side of engine compartment, between the battery and cruise control actuator (if equipped)]. (Figure Fig. 1 ) P10 ground point-engine (at the alternator bracket).
