Valve timing procedures Valve timing procedures Ensure crankshaft at TDC on No.1 cylinder. Ensure crankshaft pulley timing mark aligned with 0° timing mark on chain cover . Ensure notch on camshaft points upwards . If notch not visible, turn crankshaft one more turn. Install timing gears as follows: Ensure crankshaft gear and intermediate shaft gear timing marks aligned . Install LH balancer shaft . Ensure timing marks on intermediate shaft gears and LH balancer shaft gear aligned  & . Ensure RH balancer shaft gear and oil pump gear timing marks aligned . Install oil pump housing complete with RH balancer shaft. Ensure timing marks on oil pump gear and crankshaft gear aligned . Install injection pump as follows  : Ensure notch on injection pump gear aligned with mark ‘T’ on flange . During installation of injection pump: Notch on gear moves in direction of arrow. Install timing chain as follows:

NOTE: If DTC P1519 is stored at same time as DTC P0505, troubleshoot DTC P1519 first, then recheck for DTC P0505. 1. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on. 2. Check the engine speed at idle with no-load conditions: headlights, blower fan, rear window defogger, radiator fan, and air conditioner off. Is the engine running at 730+/-50 rpm? YES – Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time.? NO – If the idle speed is less than 680 rpm, go to step 3; if it’s 780 rpm or higher, go to step 4. 3. Disconnect the idle air control (IAC) valve 3P connector. Does the engine speed increase or fluctuate? YES – Adjust the idle speed. If the idle will not adjust properly, clean the passage in the throttle body, and then adjust the idle.? NO – Replace the IAC valve.? 4. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 5. Remove the intake air duct from the throttle body. 6. Start the engine and let it idle. 7. Put your finger on the lower port (A) in the throttle body. Does the engine speed drop below 780 rpm? YES – Adjust the idle speed. If the idle will not adjust properly, replace the IAC valve, and then adjust the idle.? NO – With the throttle valve completely closed, check for vacuum leaks, and repair as necessary.?

The high-speed idle screw is factory sealed and cannot be adjusted. Low-speed idle can be adjusted. 1. Use an optical tachometer such as Snap-on No. MT139 or MTE (Cummins tool division) No. 3377462 to read the engine RPM. 2. Bring the engine to normal operating temperature. 3. Adjust the low idle speed at the low idle speed screw. The screw and locknut are located at the rear of the fuel injection pump. 4. Loosen the idle screw lock nut. Adjust idle screw to obtain specified RPM. LOW IDLE SPEED With automatic transmission: 750-800 RPM with transmission in drive and air conditioning on. With manual transmission: * 780 RPM with transmission in neutral and air conditioning on. * With engine at operating temperature. HIGH IDLE SPEED Do not attempt to adjust high idle speed. High idle speed adjustment screw is factory sealed. Breaking seal will void injection pump warranty 5. Tighten the locknut after adjustment.

SERVICE POINTS OF REMOVAL 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT V6-2972cc 3.0L DOHC 5. Removal of crankshaft pulley. Using special tools remove the crankshaft pulley from the crankshaft. CAUTION: – Use only the specified special tools, or a damaged pulley damper could result. 10. Removal of engine support bracket. Remove the engine support bracket in the numbered sequence shown in the illustration. Spraying lubricant, slowly remove the bolt (reamer bolt) indicated by the arrow. CAUTION: – Keep in mind that the reamer bolt is sometimes heat seized on the engine support bracket. 12. Removal of timing belt. (a) Align the timing marks. 1993 Mitsubishi 3000GT V6-2972cc 3.0L DOHC (b) Make a mark on the back of the timing belt indicating the direction of rotation so it may be reassembled in the same direction it it is to be reused. (c) Loosen the center bolt on the tensioner pulley to remove the timing belt. CAUTION: – Water or oil on the belt shorten its life drastically, so the removed timing belt, sprocket, and tensioner must be free from oil and water. These parts should not be washed. Replace parts if seriously contaminated. If there is oil or water on each part check the front case oil seals, camshaft oil seal and water pump for leaks.
