Correction Install a new power steering pressure (inlet) hose assembly on the following vehicles: • 1995-98 Buick Riviera • 1997-98 Buick Park Avenue and Ultra Install a new power steering pressure (inlet) and return (outlet) hose assembly on the following vehicles: • 1999 Buick Riviera • 1999-2001 Buick Park Avenue and Ultra • 2000-2001 Buick LeSabre • 2000-2001 Pontiac Bonneville 1. Verify that the power steering pump reservoir is full. • If fluid level is low, fill and check for leaks. • If power steering system has air in the system, perform the “Bleeding Air from Power Steering System” procedure as described in the Power Steering System sub-section of the Service Manual. Important: When performing the “Bleeding Air from Power Steering System” procedure, it is important that the front of the vehicle is supported by the lower control arms. If the vehicle is not supported by the lower control arms, the procedure may cause the strut bushing to dislocate and cause new concern. Verify that the accessory drive belt is in good condition and that the pulleys are not bent or damaged. Verify proper belt tension and operation of the belt tensioner. Check for power steering hose ground out conditions. Check for good engine idle and correct engine RPM. Check to see that the rear transaxle mount does not have a plastic assembly aid installed which is used 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.

cooler Hose replacement Procedure 1) Place vehicle on lift. 2) Remove the engine under cover. Hose clamp location 3) Squeeze the hose clamps and reposition to remove the hose. Confirm the direction and angle of the original hose clamps before removal. It is important to reinstall clamps in their original position. 4) Place a drain pan under the hose to collect any CVTF which may leak out. caution: if the cVtF has spilled onto the exhaust pipe or body frame, wipe it off with a rag to avoid dripping fluid. 5) Remove the inlet cooler hose. Note: Be extremely careful not to damage the pipe. 6) Make sure the cooler hose pipe ends are clean prior to installing a new hose. 7) Install a new hose reusing the original hose clamps. Note: Do not permit the end of the hose to extend past the raised lip section of the pipe. Be sure to place the hose clamps in their original position. If the original hose clamps are damaged or deformed, replace as necessary. note: Neither replenishment of transmission fluid nor inspection of fluid level will be neces- sary during replacement of the hose unless the original hose was found to be leaking fluid. Approx. 50cc through 70cc of fluid may be lost during hose replacement. The amount of fluid remaining will still keep the necessary level with sufficient reserve margin. check and add cVtF cAution: • CVTF level changes along with CVTF temperature. When inspecting CVTF level, observe the specified CVTF temperature. • Always use specified CVTF or equivalent. Using other fluid except for specified or equivalent will cause malfunction.

BACKGROUND Prolonged high under-hood temperatures may cause the power steering hose to deteriorate prematurely and may cause the hose to crack and leak power steering fluid. Power steering fluid leaking onto a hot exhaust pipe will generate smoke and could lead to an under- hood fire. CORRECTIVE ACTION Install a power steering feed hose kit. PARTS INFORMATION Power Steering Feed Hose Kit: P/N 06530-SEC-A00 (Contains power steering feed hose [with power steering pump-side O-ring attached] and power steering pressure switch O-ring.) REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: Take care not to spill power steering fluid on the body and other parts. Wipe off any spilled fluid at once. 1. Raise the power steering reservoir, then disconnect the return hose, and drain the reservoir. Plug the return hose nipple with a suitable cap. POWER STEERING RESERVOIR 6. Remove the power steering heat shield, then lower the vehicle to the ground. RETURN HOSE HOSE 7. Disconnect the power steering pressure switch connector. UPPER LEVEL LINE CONNECTOR 2. Connect a hose of suitable diameter to the disconnected return hose, and put the hose end in a suitable container. 3. Start the engine, let it run at idle, and turn the steering wheel from lock-to-lock several times. When fluid stops running out of the hose, shut off the engine. Discard the fluid. NOTE: Inspect the reservoir screen for any debris. If the reservoir screen is clogged, replace the reservoir. 4. Remove the cap from the return hose nipple on the reservoir, then reinstall the return hose on the reservoir. 5. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
