INSTALL OR CONNECT It is essential that the differential carrier, axle seals are not lubricated or damaged during this process. Prior to drive axle installation, cover the shock mounting bracket, lower control arm bail stud, and all other sharp edges with a shop towel so as not to damage the boot. 1. Axle shaft to differential carrier. With both hands on the tripot housing, align the splines on the shaft with the differential carrier. Then center the drive axle into the differential carrier seal and firmly push the shaft straight into the differential carrier until the snap ring seats into place. NOTICE: Be careful that the safety stand does not damage or bend any components it may contact. 2. Raise the safety stand to support the weight of the lower control arm. Important: It will be necessary to slightly start the knuckle onto the drive axle while simultaneously guiding the lower ball stud to its proper 1997 Oldsmobile Truck Bravada V6-4.3L VIN W location on the steering knuckle. 3. Assemble the lower ball joint. 4. Lower shock mount. 5. Upper ball joint. 6. Drive axle washer and nut. 7. Drive axle nut. – Tighten bolts to 140 Nm (103 ft. lbs.). 8. 9. 10. 11. 12. ABS Bracket located on the top of the upper control arm ball joint. Brackets from upper control arm holding both the ABS wire and brake hose. Caliper and rotor. Tires and wheel. Remove safety stands.

Removal of Stock Intake Manifold (figure 1)
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. 2. With tape or a permanent marker, mark the forward edge of the power steering and the air conditioning compressor drive belts (figure 2). This will ensure that the belts will be returned to their original positions and that they will rotate in the direction. If you reverse the direction of rotation, it may cause the belts to fray.
3. If you don’t have a drive belt tensionometer, make note of each belt’s deflection at a point midway between its pulleys. You will need to approximate this tension during reassembly (see figure 29

In most cases, the noise is gone after five (5) minutes. In severe cases, the noise may not disappear when lhe engine is hot. Under normal design tolerances when the piston pin bore is produced at the maximum tolerance and the piston pin is produced at the minimum tolerance (min-max tolerance) trace noise levels can occur. This level of noise does not affect the reliability or durability of the product. If piston-to-pin noise is detected and the customer desires the condition to be corrected, replace all six pistons with pin assemblies. The new piston sets have a minimal piston-to-pin clearance. Remember, piston-to-pin noise occurs in both park and drive at engine idle rpm and it varies in intensity depending on the number of pistons involved. A ticking sound means one piston is affected whereas a rattle or diesel type sound indicates more than one piston affected. The following should also be checked: 1. On W-Cars, make sure the right side engine splash shield is not contacting the engine crankshaft balancer. This condition usually happens cold and is caused by the shield curling when cold. 2. Reference Service Bulletin 57-71-06 for transmission rattle noise often confused for engine rattle noise. 3. Reference Service Bulletin 47-61-36 for Accessory Drive Belt Tensioner noise. 4. Check cylinder bore diameter and piston diameter as outlined in the Service Manual.
