Removal WARNING: WHEN DRAINING FUEL FROM THE FUEL TANK, KEEP SPARKS, SMOKING MATERIALS, AND OPEN FLAMES AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. WARNING: THE FUEL SYSTEM CONTAINS PRESSURIZED FUEL AFTER THE VEHICLE IS SHUT DOWN AND WILL MAINTAIN THE PRESSURE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. 1. Relieve the fuel pressure; refer to Section 310-00. 2. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301); refer to Section 414-01. 3. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to Section 100-02. 4. Disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe hose (9047) from the fuel tank (9002). 5. Drain the fuel from the fuel tank (9002); refer to Section 310-00. 6. Disconnect the fuel tank vent tube (9A228) from fuel tank filler pipe (9034). 7. Disconnect the fuel pump electrical connector. 8. If equipped, remove fuel tank skid plate. 1. Remove the five fuel tank skid plate bolts. 2. Lower the fuel tank skid plate. 9. Position a suitable jack under the fuel tank (9002). 10. Remove the front fuel tank support strap (9092). 1. Remove the two bolts. 2. Remove the front fuel tank support strap (9092). 11. Remove the rear fuel tank support strap (9092). 1. Remove the three bolts. 2. Remove the rear fuel tank support strap. 12. Partially lower the fuel tank and disconnect the two EVAP emissions hoses. 13. Remove the two safety clips from the fuel lines. 14. Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel pump (9350). 1. Install and push the (A) fuel line disconnect tool into the (B) female fitting. 2. Separate the male and female fitting. 15. Remove the fuel tank.

Condition Some customers of 1999-2002 Chevrolet Malibu, Oldsmobile Alero, Pontiac Grand Am, and 1999 Oldsmobile Cutlass may have turn signal/hazard flashers that become inoperative.Service Procedure The following procedure provides instructions for replacing the hazard warning switch located in the instrument panel (I/P). For additional information, refer to the Lighting subsection in the Body and Accessories section of the appropriate Service Manual or SI. Malibu 1. Remove the cover from the left side instrument panel (I/P) wiring harness junction block access panel. 2. Remove the AIR BAG fuse from the panel. 3. Remove the three screws attaching the lower steering column cover to the steering column. 4. Remove the upper steering column cover. 5. Remove the two screws that attach the IP cluster bezel to the IP. 6. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver, gently pry out and remove the IP cluster trim plate from the IP. 7. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the other switches in the trim plate. 8. Disconnect the electrical connector from the hazard warning switch. 9. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver, carefully push in on the tabs to release the hazard warning switch from the IP cluster trim plate. 10. Remove the hazard warning switch by pushing in an outward motion on the switch while holding onto the IP cluster trim plate. 11. Install the new hazard warning switch by pushing in an inward motion on the switch while holding onto the IP cluster trim plate. Push inward on the switch until it is fully seated into the IP cluster trim plate. 12. Connect the electrical connector to the hazard warning switch. 13. Connect the electrical connectors to the other switches in the trim plate. 14. Position and align the IP cluster trim plate to the IP and carefully press into place.

PRE-ALIGNMENT CHECKS Ensure steering wheel is centered and front wheels are in straight-ahead position (to correct, shorten one tie rod adjusting sleeve and lengthen the opposite sleeve in equal amounts). Ensure none of the following conditions exist: Incorrect vehicle ride height (see RIDE HEIGHT ). Incorrect tire pressure, mismatched tires (differing size or type), excessive tire runout, unbalanced tire and wheel assemblies, loose wheel bearings, or loose wheel lug nuts. Loose or worn steering linkage/suspension components, or excessive play in steering gear box. CAMBER & CASTER ADJUSTMENT “C”, “G” & “K” Series Except 1999 Sierra & Silverado C1500 & C2500 (Caster Adjustment) 1. Check frame angle. See “C”, “G”, “K” & “P” (FRAME ANGLE) . If corrected caster is not within specification, remove frame bracket slots. See “C”, “G” & “K” SERIES (FRAME BRACKET SLOT REMOVAL) . Reset caster by loosening nut on end of each cam bolt securing upper control arm to frame brackets. See Fig. 18 . 2. Rotate cam bolts until caster is within specification. See WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS table. Tighten nuts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table.

SERVICE INFORMATION If a 1999 Maxima will not start and the Security lamp is on solid with the ignition key turned to “ON”, use CONSULT or CONSULT-II with the NATS card to verify NATS DTC “ID DISCORD, IMM-ECM” is stored. If this DTC appears, use the Service Procedure in this bulletin to diagnose and repair the vehicle. For an introduction to and description of the Nissan Anti-Theft System (NATS), please refer to NTB99-063. SERVICE PROCEDURE NOTE: This procedure is described using CONSULT-II. CONSULT may also be used to perform the diagnostic procedures outlined below. However, the screens and steps will differ slightly from those shown here. 1. Install the NATS card (purple) into slot 1 of CONSULT-II (see Figure 1). Figure 2 3. Turn the ignition switch to “ON” (do not start the engine). CONSULT-II will then turn on automatically (see Figure 3). Now touch “START”. Figure 3 4. Select “NATS V2.0″ (see Figure 4).
