NOTICE: Always turn the crankshaft clockwise. (c) Check that the timing marks of the camshaft timing pul- leys and No.3 timing belt cover are aligned. If not, turn the crankshaft pulley 1 revolution (360°). (d) Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt. IF REUSING TIMING BELT, CHECK INSTALLATION MARKS ON TIMING BELT Check that there are 3 installation marks and front mark on the timing belt. If the installation and front marks have disappeared, before re- moving the timing belt, place 3 new installation marks on the timing belt to match the timing marks of the timing pulleys, and place a new front mark on the timing belt. 18. 19. REMOVE TIMING BELT TENSIONER Alternately loosen the 2 bolts, and remove them, the belt ten- sioner and dust boot. 20. REMOVE TIMING BELT 21. REMOVE NO.2 IDLER PULLEY Remove the bolt and idler pulley. 24. REMOVE NO.1 IDLER PULLEY Using a 10 mm hexagon wrench, remove the pivot bolt, idler pulley and plate washer. 25. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT TIMING PULLEY Remove the timing pulley. HINT: If the pulley cannot be removed by hand, use SST and a service bolt to remove the timing pulley. Removal 1. Remove the supercharger drive belt. 2. Remove the fan blade, clutch and shroud. 3. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. 4. Remove the nut and position the shield aside. 5. Remove the transmission cooler line clip. 6. Remove the two nuts and one bolt. 7. Remove the starter motor. 8. Install the special tool. 9. Remove the accessory drive belt. 10. NOTE: The auxiliary supercharger pulley has left-hand threads. Remove the pulley and brace assembly. 11. Remove the supercharger pulley adapter. 12. Remove the bolt. 13. Using the special tool, remove the crankshaft pulley. Installation 1. NOTE: The crankshaft pulley must be installed within four minutes after applying the silicone. Apply silicone gasket and sealant to the Woodruff key slot on the crankshaft pulley. 2. Using the special tool, install the crankshaft pulley. 3. Install the bolt and washer. Tighten the bolt in four stages. Stage 1: Tighten to 90 Nm (66 ft. lbs.) . Stage 2: Loosen the bolt. Stage 3: Tighten to 50 Nm (37 ft. lbs.) . Stage 4: Tighten an additional 85 – 90° . 4. Install the supercharger pulley adapter. 5. Install the drive belt. 6. NOTE: Coat the threads of the supercharger pulley with anti-seize lubricant. NOTE: The auxiliary supercharger pulley has left-hand threads. Install the pulley and brace assembly. 7. Remove the special tool. 8. Install the starter motor. 9. Position the transcooler line clip and install the two nuts and one bolt. 10. 11. 12. 13. Position the shield and install the nut. Lower the vehicle. Install the fan blade, clutch and shroud. Install the accessory drive belt and the supercharger drive belt.

Removal (Bronco & F150) 1. Using Torx Bit (T-25), remove 5 bolts from cap assembly. Remove cap assembly. See Fig. 5 . DO NOT drop spring, ball bearing, bearing race or spring retainer. 2. Removal 1. Disconnect negative battery cable. On Millenia, raise and support vehicle. Remove right front wheel. Remove lower engine covers. 2. On all models, remove accessory drive belts. Remove water pump pulley. Remove drive belt idler pulley bracket. Remove retaining bolts and power steering pump with hoses attached, and secure pump out of way. Remove spark plugs. CAUTION: DO NOT damage crankshaft position sensor rotor on rear of crankshaft pulley during crankshaft pulley removal. 3. Holding crankshaft stationary, remove the crankshaft pulley retaining bolt. Using gear puller, remove crankshaft pulley. 4. Remove oil dipstick and oil dipstick tube. Remove crankshaft position sensor from front of engine. See Fig. 1 . Support engine using hoist or floor jack. Remove right (timing belt side) engine mount. Remove retaining bolts, timing belt covers, and gaskets. See Fig. 1 . 5. Install crankshaft pulley retaining bolt in crankshaft. Rotate crankshaft so No. 1 cylinder is at TDC on compression stroke. Ensure groove on crankshaft sprocket aligns with indicator on oil pump body. See Fig. 2 . Ensure camshaft sprocket timing marks are aligned with marks on rear cover. 6. If reusing timing belt, place reference mark on timing belt to indicate direction of rotation. Loosen the 2 timing belt tensioner bolts. Hold timing belt tensioner, and remove lower retaining bolt. Remove No. 1 idler pulley and timing belt. Inspection 1. Inspect timing belt for damaged teeth, cracking and oil contamination. Ensure idler pulleys (No. 1 and No. 2) and tensioner pulley rotate freely. Replace damaged components. 2. Inspect timing belt tensioner for signs of oil leakage. Replace timing belt tensioner if oil leakage exists. Measure timing belt tensioner rod protrusion from end of rod to edge of housing. See Fig. 3 . There are 2
