Driver Side 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. If the airbag has not been deployed, wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before further service. Driver Side Airbag Module Remove/Install 2. From the underside of the steering wheel, remove the two screws that secure the driver side airbag module to the steering wheel. 3. Pull the airbag module away from the steering wheel far enough to access the wire harness connectors on the back of the airbag module. 4. Unplug the airbag module and horn switch wire harness connectors from the back of the airbag module. 5. Remove the driver side airbag module from the steering wheel. 6. If the airbag has been deployed, the clockspring must be replaced. See Clockspring in the Replacement for the procedures. 7. When installing the airbag module, connect the clockspring wire harness connector to the module by pressing straight in on the connector. Be certain that the connector is fully engaged by observing the latch arms on each side of the connector. When these arms move outward from the connector, the connector is latched. 8. Connect the horn switch wire harness connectors. 9. Install the airbag module in the steering wheel. Tighten the mounting screws to 10.2 N.m (90 in. lbs.) . 10. Do not connect the battery negative cable at this time. See Airbag System in the Diagnosis and Testing for the proper procedures. Passenger Side The following procedure is for replacement of a faulty or damaged passenger side airbag module. If the passenger side airbag module has been deployed, the instrument panel assembly must be replaced. The instrument panel assembly includes a passenger side airbag and airbag door. Refer to Instrument Panel, Gauges and Warning Indicators/Instrument Panel/Instrument Panel Assembly Replacement. 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. If the airbag has not been deployed, wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before

Volvo has identified that there may be an intermittent fault in the driver’s airbag clockspring wiring connector for the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). If this condition occurs, the SRS lamp will be permanently illuminated along with the following message in the Drivers Information Module (DIM) “AIRBAG SYSTEM SERVICE REQUIRED”. If the condition occurs during driving, and if the driver ignores the warning, should an accident occur where the deployment of the driver’s airbag is required, the driver’s airbag may not deploy as intended or not deploy at all. This poses an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety. The corrective action is to install a metal shim in the driver’s airbag clockspring wiring connector. This recall affects 9,746 vehicles in the U.S and 1,157 in Canada.

DESCRIPTION On some vehicles, when a power plug with improper fabrication (such as a phone charger) is inserted into either of the accessory sockets (center and/or rear), the airbag warning light may illuminate with DTC B1342, B2477 AND / OR C1946 stored in memory. Due to the improper power plug, the center or rear accessory socket fuse blows, and a short-circuit occurs in the SAS control module, causing the airbag warning light illumination with DTC B1342, B2477 AND / OR C1946 set. Despite the DTCs and airbag warning light being illumi- nated, the airbag system will continue to function. After verifying customer concern, perform the following repair procedures in order: • A – FUSE INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT • B – SAS CONTROL MODULE CONFIGURATION AND REMOVAL / INSTALLATION (1) • C – PERFORM SSP78 A – FUSE INSPECTION AND REPLACEMENT 1. Visually inspect OUTLET CTR (15A) and OUTLET RR (15A) fuses located in the main fuse block in the engine compartment. Refer to MS3 online information or Workshop Manual WIRING DIAGRAMS. NOTE: – - In the wiring diagram these fuses are referred to as 19 and 20. In the owners manual these fuses are referred to as 17 and 18. 2. Replace any blown fuses with a new 15A fuse (9970-51-315). 3. Proceed to B – SAS CONTROL MODULE CONFIGURATION AND REMOVAL / INSTALLATION.
