POWER DOOR LOCKS Power door lock system allows all doors to be locked or unlocked using either front door lock switch. All doors can be mechanically locked or unlocked using respective locking knobs or from outside of vehicle using key. Driver’s or passenger’s door can also be unlocked by actuating inside door handle. On Sebring Convertible, trunk can be unlocked using switch inside vehicle. All 4-door models are equipped with child protection locks on rear doors. Lever is located on inside edge of door, near latch. Moving lever to engage lock will allow rear door to only be opened using outside door handle. On models with anti-theft system, power door lock system is integrated into anti-theft system. Locking or unlocking door with key will arm or disarm anti-theft system (if equipped), and cancel or activate illuminated entry feature. An optional central locking system is also a part of anti-theft system. Turning key in driver’s door to unlock position one time will unlock driver’s door. Unlocking passenger’s door with a key or turning driver’s door lock to unlock position 2 times within 5 seconds will unlock all doors. All models are equipped with a door lock inhibit function. Body Control Module (BCM) will ignore command to lock power door locks with ignition switch in ON position and driver’s door open. When door is closed or ignition key is removed, BCM will lock all door locks. All models are also equipped with automatic door locks. Doors will lock automatically when all doors are closed, vehicle speed exceeds 14-16 MPH and Throttle Position (TP) sensor is greater than 8-12 degrees. This feature can be enabled or disabled. If door lock switch is pressed for longer than eight consecutive seconds, BCM will disable door lock relay. Power latches are equipped with a thermal protection system which prevents latches from burning out.

Temperature Blend Door Actuator Removal All vehicles 1. WARNING: To avoid accidental deployment and possible personal injury, the backup power supply must be depleted before repairing or replacing any front or side air bag supplemental restraint (SRS) components and before servicing, replacing, adjusting or striking components near the front or side air bag sensors, such as doors, instrument panel, console, door latches, strikers, seats and hood latches. To deplete the backup power supply energy, disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. Be sure to disconnect auxiliary batteries and power supplies (if equipped). Disconnect the battery ground cable and wait at least one minute. For additional information, refer to Section 414-01. Vehicles equipped with floor console 2. Remove the floor console. For additional information, refer to Section 501-12. All vehicles 3. Remove the floor duct panel. Remove the pin-type retainers and release the expander clip. 4. Remove the RH instrument panel brake. 1. Remove the nut. 2. Remove the bolt. 3. Remove the brace. 5. Remove the LH instrument panel lower nut and position the brace aside. 6. Disconnect the restraints control module (RCM) electrical connector. 7. Remove the RCM and bracket assembly. 1. Remove the bracket retaining bolts. 2. Remove the RCM and bracket assembly. Vehicles equipped with rear airflow duct 8. Cut the rear seat airflow duct along both sides. Fold back carpet. Cut rear seat airflow duct. 9. Fold the air duct rearwards. All vehicles 10. Remove the floor duct. 1. Remove the two screws (one each side). 2. Remove the floor duct. 11. Remove the electronic blend door actuator. 1. Disconnect the connector. 2. Remove the screws. 3. Pull down to release the actuator shaft and remove the electronic blend door actuator. Installation All vehicles 1. Install the electronic blend door actuator. 1. Connect the actuator shaft. 2. Install the screws. 3. Connect the connector. 2. Install the floor duct. 1. Install the floor duct. 2. Install the two screws (one each side). Vehicles equipped with rear airflow duct 3. Zip-tie the rear airflow duct to floor duct. 4. Reposition the carpet. All vehicles WARNING: The tightening torque of the restraints control module (RCM) retaining bolts is critical for correct system operation. 5. Install the RCM and bracket assembly. 6. Connect the restraints control module (RCM) electrical connector.

Temperature Blend Door Actuator Removal All vehicles 1. Depower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). For additional information, refer to Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) Depowering and Repowering in Section 501-20B. 2. Remove the floor duct panel. Remove the pin-type retainers and release the expander clip. 3. Remove the RH instrument panel brake. 1. Remove the nut. 2. Remove the bolt. 3. Remove the brace. 4. Remove the LH instrument panel lower nut and position the brace aside. 5. Disconnect the restraints control module (RCM) electrical connector. 6. Remove the RCM and bracket assembly. 1. Remove the bracket retaining bolts. 2. Remove the RCM and bracket assembly. Vehicles equipped with rear airflow duct 7. Cut the rear seat airflow duct along both sides. Fold back carpet. Installation All vehicles 1. Install the electronic blend door actuator. 1. Connect the actuator shaft. 2. Install the screws. 3. Connect the connector. 2. Install the floor duct. 1. Install the floor duct. 2. Install the two screws (one each side). Vehicles equipped with rear airflow duct 3. Zip-tie the rear airflow duct to floor duct. 4. Reposition the carpet. All vehicles WARNING: The tightening torque of the restraints control module (RCM) retaining bolts is critical for correct system operation. 5. Install the RCM and bracket assembly. 6. Connect the restraints control module (RCM) electrical connector. 7. Install the LH instrument panel lower nut. 8. Install the RH instrument panel brace. Install the brace. Install the nut. Install the bolt. 9. Install the floor duct panel. Install the pin-type retainers and release the expander clip. 10. Repower the supplemental restraint system (SRS). The air conditioning system can be equipped with either a standard, single blend- air door actuator, or it can be equipped with dual actuators. The dual system has separate blend-air controls. This allows for separate control of the driver’s side air, and the passenger side air. 1. Remove the lower left side steering column cover. Refer to Instrument Panel and Systems. 2. Remove ABS control module. 3. Remove blend-air actuator connector. 4. Remove blend-air actuator. INSTALLATION 1. For installation, reverse the above procedures. 2. Perform the HVAC Control Calibration Diagnostic and Cooldown test. Repeating the test is necessary to clear the fault codes.

Window Regulator, Power Front Door—Town Car Removal 1. CAUTION: When servicing front door power window regulator minus motor (23208), regulator cable tension must not be altered. Cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature front door power window regulator failure or erratic operation. CAUTION: Be careful not to drill through the window regulator behind inner door panel. Additional repairs may be necessary. If front door window glass (21410) is in the down position and is inoperable, a through f must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, proceed to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04). Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01. c. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass. Remove three 1/4 inch rivets retaining window regulator electric drive (23394) to inner panel. d. Working through front access hole in inner panel, remove three screws from window regulator electric drive. e. Separate window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor. Raise front door window glass by hand and secure using tape. f. Proceed to Step 2. 2. Remove front door window glass as outlined. 3. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wiring connector. 4. Remove two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 5. NOTE: Use care not to enlarge sheet metal holes in the door inner panel. Remove two 1/4-inch rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to inner door panel. 6. Remove front door power window regulator minus motor from front door (20124). Installation 1. Lubricate front door power window regulator minus motor with Teflon® Lubricant E7FZ-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C111-A as outlined. 2. Install front door power window regulator minus motor into access hole in inner panel. 3. Position front door power window regulator minus motor using upper front door power window regulator studs and tabs on window regulator electric drive mounting bracket. 4. Install rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to door inner panel (1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw and 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies or equivalent metric fasteners may be used as alternates). 5. Install two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 6. Install Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 7. Adjust Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 8. Install front door trim shield and front door trim panel. Refer to Section 01-05. Front Door—Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Removal 1. If front door window glass is in the down position and is inoperable, the following steps must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, go to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield. Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01. c. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wires. d. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass because it could break. Remove window regulator electric drive retaining screws through holes. e. Remove window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor.
