1. If equipped, turn the air suspension switch OFF. 2. Disconnect battery ground cable. 3. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to Section 100-02. 4. Drain transmission fluid and remove the transmission fluid pan and filter; refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Refill in this section. 5. CAUTION: Do not pull on the plastic lead frame. This may cause damage to the connector ends. Carefully pry up on the locking tabs to disconnect the sensors. Disconnect the molded lead frame from the sensors. Disconnect the molded lead frame from the sensors. 1. Disconnect the shift solenoid SSA/SS1 and SSB/SS2. 2. Disconnect the torque converter clutch (TCC). 3. Disconnect the electronic pressure control (EPC) solenoid. 4. Disconnect the bulkhead inter connector. 6. Remove the shift solenoid and the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the shift solenoid and the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid. 7. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring (7A261) 1. Remove the bolt. 2. Remove the manual control valve detent lever spring 8. Remove the 23 valve body to case bolts. 9. Remove the main control valve body (7A100) Installation 1. NOTE: Make sure that the drive pin of the manual valve detent lever assembly engages the manual valve in the proper location prior to installing the bolts. Position the main control valve body gasket and main control valve body using the two alignment bolts as a guide. 2. NOTE: The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps. Loosely install the bolts. 3. NOTE: The main control valve body bolts will be tightened in later steps. Loosely install the bolts. 4. Install the manual control valve detent lever spring. 1. Position the manual control valve detent lever spring. 2. Install the bolt.

REMOVAL PROCEDURE 1. Turn OFF the ignition. CAUTION: Refer to Hoist Caution in Service Precautions . 2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting. 3. Bend the retaining tab for the EVAP canister vent valve. 4. Remove the valve from the bracket. 5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EVAP canister vent valve. 6. Loosen the vent hose clamp and remove the vent hose from the EVAP vent valve. 7. Remove the EVAP canister vent valve from the vehicle. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Connect the vent hose to the EVAP canister vent valve and tighten the hose clamp. 2. Connect the electrical connector to the EVAP canister vent valve. 3. Install the EVAP canister vent valve to the bracket. 4. Bend the retaining tab for the EVAP canister vent valve. 5. Lower the vehicle

1. 2. 3. 4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Clear the DTC with the HDS. Remove the fuel fill cap for 5 seconds , then install it. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2422 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate FAILED? YES – Go to step 6. NO – If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for a poor connection or loose terminals at the EVAP canister vent shut valve and ECM/PCM. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 2 and recheck. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Remove the EVAP canister vent shut valve from the EVAP canister. Connect the 2P connector to the EVAP canister vent shut valve. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Do the EVAP CVS ON in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Check the EVAP canister vent shut valve (A) operation. Does the valve operate? YES – Check for a blockage in the EVAP canister, then install the EVAP canister vent shut valve, and go to step 14. NO – Go to step 12. 12. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 13. Replace the EVAP canister vent shut valve. 14. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 15. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS. 16. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure. 17. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 18. Remove the fuel fill cap for 5 seconds , then install it. 19. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle. 20. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES – If DTC P2422 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor or the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC’s troubleshooting. NO – Go to step 21. 21. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2422 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate PASSED? YES – Troubleshooting is complete. NO – If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor or the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 16 and recheck.

Condition General Motors has decided to conduct a Voluntary Emission Recall involving certain 2001-03 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra model vehicles, equipped with a 4.3L V6 (RPO L35 – VIN W or RPO LU3 – VIN X) engine. The ignition distributor cap and rotor in these vehicles may corrode and cause ignition system failure. This condition may result in rough engine idle, misfire, stalls, engine cranks but does not run and/or illumination of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL). Correction Dealers are to inspect the distributor ignition ventilation holes and, if necessary, replace the distributor cap and rotor, remove the External Ignition Protection (EIP) vent screens and install a foam sleeve around the A/C accumulator line. Vehicles Involved Involved are certain 2001-03 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra model vehicles, equipped with a 4.3L V6 (RPO L35 – VIN W or RPO LU3 – VIN X) engine and built within these VIN breakpoints: Service Procedure 1. Raise the engine hood and inspect the ignition distributor ventilation holes, located in the base of the distributor, to see if the External Ignition Protection (EIP) screens are present. 2. If the EIP vent screens are present: • Remove the vent EIP screens using the procedure listed in Step 3. • Refer to the appropriate procedure in the Engine Controls sub-section of the applicable Service Manual and replace the distributor cap and rotor. 3. Remove the vent screens (1), located in the base of the distributor, by inserting a plastic- handled, long blade awl or pick (2) into each of the two airflow vent holes and popping out the screen. If there are no EIP vent screens in the airflow vent holes, check the vent holes for debris and clear as necessary before reassembling the distributor. 4. If the EIP vent screens are not present, the distributor cap and rotor do not require replacement. 5. Install the foam sleeve, P/N 15190971, around the section of the A/C accumulator line that is routed directly above the distributor. Cut a slit in the sleeve and secure it to the line using tie- straps. Do not install a new foam sleeve if a sleeve is already in place on the A/C accumulator line. 6. 2001-03 CALIFORNIA, 2003 MASSACHUSETTS & MAINE VEHICLES ONLY : Install a Recall Identification Label. Also, for California vehicles, complete a “Proof Of Correction” certificate upon recall completion.

NOTE: Hydraulic valve lifters are used; no valve adjustment is required. When valve and/or valve seat is machined, valve clearance is reduced and may cause improper valve operation. Different length push rods are available for correcting clearance. Valve lifter must be collapsed to check valve clearance. 1. With valve cover removed, position piston No. 1 at TDC of compression stroke. Completely collapse cylinder No. 1 intake valve lifter and hold valve lifter collapsed. Using feeler gauge, measure clearance between rocker arm and valve stem. 2. Clearance should be within specification. Refer to COLLAPSED VALVE LIFTER CLEARANCE table. Replace push rod, if necessary, to obtain correct clearance. 3. Position crankshaft as specified. See, in this article, VALVE CLEARANCE CHECKING SEQUENCE table, and check appropriate valves. Replace push rods if clearance is not within specification. 4. If push rod(s) is replaced, ensure corresponding cylinder piston is below TDC. It will be necessary to loosen or remove rocker arm to replace push rod. CAUTION: DO NOT operate or crank engine after installing push rod until valve lifter has leaked down to normal operating position. COLLAPSED VALVE LIFTER CLEARANCE
