2006 Pontiac GTO Transmission Jumps Out of Gear

If the transmission jumps out of gear during deceleration, inspect the components that may allow for the gears or shafts to tip. If the gears or shafts tip, the synchronizer sleeve can disengage from the selector teeth on the speed gear. If the transmission jumps out of gear during acceleration, inspect the components that may not allow full engagement of the synchronizer sleeve to the selector teeth on the speed gear. Insufficient engagement of the selector teeth under torque may cause the transmission to jump out of gear. Test Description The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table. 2. A static shift test is performed by shifting into all gear positions with the engine not operating. While performing the test, slowly move the shift lever. Feel for proper movement of the shift lever and transmission internal shift components. 4. A dynamic shift test is performed by shifting into all gear positions with the engine operating. Test for the correct mesh of the synchronizers sleeve and the speed gear selector teeth. Move the shift lever, and feel for the synchronizer sleeve to release from the gear, then let up on the clutch pedal. Depress the clutch pedal and move the shift lever to engage the gear again, to ensure full travel of the shift components. 5. This step inspects for worn or damaged transmission or engine mounts. Loose mounts may cause a shock on the transmission allowing for gear disengagement. 6. This step inspects for the misalignment of the torque tube to transmission. Misalignment may put a bind on the input shaft, allowing for the input shaft or the mainshaft to tip. 8. This step inspects the pilot bearing and the pilot bearing journal on the input shaft. A worn pilot bearing or input shaft may allow the input shaft to tip, causing gear disengagement.

2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator Always on (Diagnose Low Coolant Level System

Subject: Models: Low Engine Coolant Level Indicator Always On (Diagnose Low Coolant Level System Operation/Check Sensor for Oil Contamination) 2000-2002 Buick Century, Regal 2000-2001 Chevrolet Lumina 2000-2002 Chevrolet Impala, Monte Carlo 2000-2002 Pontiac Grand Prix 2000-2002 Oldsmobile Intrigue Condition Some customers may comment that the low engine coolant level indicator is always illuminated. Cause The cause of this condition may be due to engine oil contaminating the coolant. Possible sources of oil contamination are internal engine leaks, improper service procedures, or the addition of some types of anti-leak additives to the cooling system. Once in the coolant, the oil leaves deposits on the level sensor creating an insulating film. This film results in a false activation of the coolant level indicator. Correction Diagnose low coolant level system operation and check the sensor for oil contamination using the procedure listed below. Important: No coolant supplements should be used in GM cooling systems, other than what is approved and recommended by GM. The use of “aftermarket” over-the-counter sealing and cooling supplements may affect the operation of the low coolant level sensor. Discoloration of the coolant recovery bottle is normal and does not necessarily indicate that coolant contamination is present. Flush cooling system only when instructed by this bulletin. 1. Verify that the coolant is at proper level in the radiator and the coolant recovery bottle. If the coolant is low, add proper amount of 50/50 water and DEX-COOL® mixture. If the low coolant light operates properly, diagnose the cooling system for loss of coolant as outlined in SI. DO NOT proceed further with this bulletin. 2. Remove the low coolant level sensor. Refer to Coolant Level Module Replacement in the Engine Cooling sub-section. 3. With the key on, the engine off and the coolant level sensor disconnected from the vehicle wiring harness, observe the low coolant light: • Light is on — Chassis wiring or instrument cluster concern. Follow the appropriate diagnostic information in SI. • Light is out — Proceed to Step 4.

Automatic Transaxle 2-3 Shift Flare During First Minutes of Driving After Cold Soak (Perform Bulletin Procedure) Models: 2002 Saturn S-Series Vehicles with Automatic Transaxle (RPOs MP6, MP7) Attention: General Manager, Fixed Operations Manager, Parts Manager, Technician Condition: Some customers of 2002 S-series vehicles with MP6 or MP7 automatic transaxles may comment on a 2-3 shift flare during the first few minutes of driving after vehicle cold soak. Cause: This condition may be caused by improper pressure, a leak in the 2nd clutch circuit, improper clutch plate finish on 2nd and 3rd clutches, a restriction in the 3rd clutch oil delivery path in the end cover, or improper surface finish in the piston bores of the 2-3 clutch housing. Correction: To correct this condition, duplicate by cold soaking the vehicle the amount of time at temperature described by the owner. Refer to procedure in this bulletin. Service Procedure Verify proper transaxle pressures by installing gauge and performing stepped pressure test after cold soak. Refer to “Stepped Pressure Test” procedure in the 2002 Saturn S-Series Automatic Transaxle Service Manual. ^ If pressures are low, follow the diagnostic chart for DTC P0745 for possible causes of low pressure. Refer to “P0745 – PC Solenoid Pressure Low” diagnostic in the 2002 Saturn S-Series Automatic Transaxle Service Manual. ^ If pressures are within normal ranges, proceed to Step 2. Remove the transaxle end cover. Refer to “End Cover Replacement” in the 2002 Saturn S-Series Automatic Transaxle Service Manual. Check torque on input shaft nut and end cover 3rd clutch oil passage for restrictions. ^ Input shaft nut torque should be 150 N.m (111 ft-lb). If nut is found to be loose, remove nut, clean threads and install new nut using Service Manual procedures and proceed to check 3rd oil passage. ^ Check 3rd oil passage in the end cover by pouring transaxle fluid through it and another passage. If the passage is restricted, you will notice significantly less fluid flow through it. If 3rd clutch passage is found to be restricted, install new end cover per Service Manual procedures and retest for concern. ^ If nut and 3rd clutch passage are okay, proceed to Step 4. Remove transaxle from vehicle. Refer to “Transaxle Removal” in the 2002 Saturn S-Series Automatic Transaxle Service Manual. Disassemble transaxle and install new 2-3 clutch housing, clutch pistons and clutch plates. Refer to “Transaxle Disassemble” in the 2002 Saturn S-Series Automatic Transaxle Service Manual.
