Window Regulator, Power Front Door—Town Car Removal 1. CAUTION: When servicing front door power window regulator minus motor (23208), regulator cable tension must not be altered. Cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature front door power window regulator failure or erratic operation. CAUTION: Be careful not to drill through the window regulator behind inner door panel. Additional repairs may be necessary. If front door window glass (21410) is in the down position and is inoperable, a through f must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, proceed to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04). Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01. c. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass. Remove three 1/4 inch rivets retaining window regulator electric drive (23394) to inner panel. d. Working through front access hole in inner panel, remove three screws from window regulator electric drive. e. Separate window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor. Raise front door window glass by hand and secure using tape. f. Proceed to Step 2. 2. Remove front door window glass as outlined. 3. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wiring connector. 4. Remove two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 5. NOTE: Use care not to enlarge sheet metal holes in the door inner panel. Remove two 1/4-inch rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to inner door panel. 6. Remove front door power window regulator minus motor from front door (20124). Installation 1. Lubricate front door power window regulator minus motor with Teflon® Lubricant E7FZ-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C111-A as outlined. 2. Install front door power window regulator minus motor into access hole in inner panel. 3. Position front door power window regulator minus motor using upper front door power window regulator studs and tabs on window regulator electric drive mounting bracket. 4. Install rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to door inner panel (1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw and 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies or equivalent metric fasteners may be used as alternates). 5. Install two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 6. Install Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 7. Adjust Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 8. Install front door trim shield and front door trim panel. Refer to Section 01-05. Front Door—Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Removal 1. If front door window glass is in the down position and is inoperable, the following steps must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, go to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield. Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01. c. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wires. d. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass because it could break. Remove window regulator electric drive retaining screws through holes. e. Remove window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor.

1. Disconnect the vapor line at the charcoal canister that comes from the liquid vapor separator and goes to the charcoal canister. See if the fuel tank can be easily filled then. 2. If the fuel tank can easily be filled with the vapor line removed from the charcoal canister, reconnect the vapor line and remove the other lines from the charcoal canister and see if the fuel tank can be easily filled. 3. If the fuel tank is once again difficult to fill, replace the charcoal canister. 4. If disconnecting the vapor line at the charcoal canister does NOT make the fuel tank easy to fill, then disconnect the vapor line from the liquid vapor separator at
the fuel tank in case the vapor line is plugged/restricted. Charcoal Canister Liquid Vapor Separator Vapor Line Fuel vapors are directed to the canister from the ORVR fill vent valve in the gas tank through the liquid vapor separator and to the canister. The metal tube that
loops up by the filler neck is part of the vapor line to the canister.

Before adjusting rear side window, door window adjustment must be checked and corrected if necessary. The rear side window is adjusted to the door window. The side window adjustment sequence is: 1. In direction of travel and in height to door window, 2. In angle. All adjustments and functions should be checked with roof closed and open. Window regulator basic setting NOTE: Window regulator motor must operate with greatest possible operating force for window regulator basic setting. Therefore, it is necessary to leave the engine running. CAUTION: Risk of injury! Window travel must be able to be blocked in advance of closing. Under no circumstances should you leave your hand on window and allow the window to close completely. Procedure for window regulator basic setting: Start engine. Completely lower side window. Close side window and block with hand. Side window lowers (reverses). Close side window again within 5 seconds and block with hand again. Side window stops. Close side window again within 5 seconds . Side window runs without pinch protection up to mechanical window regulator stop. Within 5 seconds , hold window regulator switch for 5 seconds . Now window regulator motor is adjusted to window regulator.

GLASS, FRAMES AND MECHANISMS The glass, frames and mechanisms consist of the: door glass. heated rear window switch. heated window grid wire (if equipped). rear quarter glass. rear window defrost relay. rear window glass. window control switches. window regulators. window regulator motors. windshield glass Windshield Glass The windshield exterior moldings are installed with the windshield glass. The windshield exterior moldings cannot be replaced without removal of the windshield. Window Control Switch Power windows are standard. The window control switches are available only to the front seat passengers. There are no window control switches for the rear seat passengers. The rear quarter windows (convertible only) are operated by a single switch, located in the driver’s door. The rear window switch operates the rear quarter windows in up/down only. The front window control switches use double-detent switches. The first detent is for up/down and the second detent is for one-touch up/down. Window, One-Touch Up/Down The window one-touch up/down feature is activated by pulling/pressing the window control switch to the up/down position (second detent). This allows the front door window glass to move upward/downward until it is fully closed/open. A momentary activation of the window control switch, while the window glass is moving upward or downward, stops the front door window glass. The bounce-back feature is incorporated into the one- touch up feature. Bounce-back occurs if the window motor detects an obstruction/foreign material in the window channel. It also occurs if a door window motor initialization is not carried out after repairs or if the door window glass channel needs to be lubricated.
