To remove the heelboard relay and fuse box trim panels, turn the fastener 90 degrees and pull the trim panel forwards. See Fig. 7 . When reinstalling heelboard relay and fuse box trim panels, insert the top of the trim panel under the rear seat pan and push the bottom of the trim panel until it is fully seated. Insert the fastener and turn 90 degrees to secure the trim panel. For left heelboard relay and fuse box fuse identification, see Fig. 8 . For right heelboard relay and fuse box fuse identification, see Fig. 9 .

SYMPTOM DTC P1298 (electrical load detector (ELD) circuit high voltage) is stored in the ECM/PCM. PROBABLE CAUSE The electronic load detector (ELD) has a faulty solder joint. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the ELD. NOTE: Previously, if an ELD required replacement, you had to replace the under-hood fuse/relay box. To reduce repair costs, replacement ELDs are now available. PARTS INFORMATION Electronic Load Detector: P/N 38255-S5A-003, H/C 7987571 REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the audio unit. Write down the customer’s audio presets. 2. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. 3. Remove the under-hood fuse/relay box cover. 4. Release the three clips, and remove the under- hood fuse/relay box from the holder. CR-V only: Release the wire harness clip from the fuse/relay box holder CIVIC: 7. Remove the four screws that hold the two fuses, and remove the fuses. FUSE (Retain.) CIVIC: 80A CR-V: 100A FUSE (Retain.) CIVIC: 40A CR-V: 50A 12. Reinstall the 3P ELD connector and the lower fuse/ relay box cover. 13. Reinstall the fuse/relay box onto its holder. CR-V only: Reinstall the wire harness clip onto the holder. 14. Reinstall the fuse/relay box cover. 15. Reconnect the negative battery cable. 16. Do the idle learn procedure: • Make sure all electrical items (A/C, audio unit, defogger, lights, etc.) are off. • Start the engine and let it warm up to its normal operating temperature (the cooling fans cycle twice). • Let the engine idle (throttle closed and all electrical items off) for 10 minutes. 17. CR-V only: Reset the power window control unit: • Turn the ignition switch to ON (II). • Make sure the driver’s window is fully closed. • Push down and hold the window switch until the window goes all the way down. • Pull back and hold the window switch until the window goes all the way up, then hold the switch for at least 2 more seconds. 18. Enter the audio unit anti-theft code, and set the clock. Enter the audio presets.

1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Connect the approved Jaguar diagnostic system. 3. Make sure J-Gate shift selector is in the Park position (P). 4. With the engine running and the foot brake applied, move the J-Gate shift selector through “P-R-N-D-4-3-2″ and back to the “P” position to circulate the automatic transmission fluid until the temperature reaches 30 to 40°C (86 to 104°F) on the
approved Jaguar diagnostic system. 5. When the automatic transmission fluid temperature reaches 35°C (95°F) check that the selector lever is in the “P. position raise the vehicle. 6. With the engine running, remove the automatic transmission fluid level tube plug.
Remove and discard the sealing washer.

Difficulty Selecting Transmission Ranges – GEARBOX FAULT Message – Reset J-Gate Remove and destroy Bulletin XT307-01, dated 08/01. Replace with this Bulletin. The adjustment procedure has been revised. Issue: Some 2002 MY X-TYPE vehicles with automatic transmissions may experience customer complaints of being unable to select a transmission range, or the message ‘GEARBOX FAULT’ flashing on the message center (or the powertrain malfunction lamp [MIL] illuminating) causing the vehicle to run in limp-home mode. Action: Using WDS, check for any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) stored. If any DTC is stored (see table), the J-gate assembly is functioning incorrectly and needs resetting. In order to do this, follow the Workshop Procedure outlined below. Note: Before starting the J-gate setting procedure, ensure the vehicle is cold, or has been left to cool for at least 2 hours.
