2002 Cadillac DeVille Blower Motor Replacement REMOVAL PROCEDURE

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Remove the right side sound insulator. Pull back the carpet near the blower motor. Remove the IP compartment. Remove the dash integration module from the bracket. Remove the two rear dash integration module bracket fasteners. Reposition the dash integration module bracket in order to remove the blower motor. 7. Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the blower motor. 8. Remove the blower motor retaining fasteners (1). 9. Rotate and remove the blower motor from the vehicle. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE Rotate the blower motor in order to install the blower motor into the housing. 1. Install the blower motor into the blower motor housing. 2. Ensure that the blower motor gasket is properly aligned. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. 3. Install the blower motor retaining screws (1). Tighten Tighten the screws to 1.4 N.m (12 lb in). 4. Connect the electrical connector (2) to the blower motor.

Condition Some customers may comment on an inoperative or intermittent Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower motor. Others may comment that the blower motor speed may momentarily drop or that the blower motor continues to run after the key is turned off. Cause This condition may be caused by a voltage spike from the wiper motor. The voltage spike may cause a logic lock up in the blower motor control module that may be either momentary or permanent. Correction DO THIS DON’T DO THIS Install a Capacitor at the Blower Motor Control Module Connector Technicians are to install a capacitor, P/N 25073556, at the blower motor control module connector using the following procedure: 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Refer to the Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect procedure in the Engine Electrical section of SI. 2. Remove the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to the Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement-Right procedure in the Instrument Panel, Gages and Console section of SI. DO NOT replace the Blower Motor Control Module, Blower Motor or the HVAC Control Head

noise or a slight vibration when operating the blower motor due to foreign objects or debris in the blower unit. Follow the repair procedure in this TSB to correct this condition.Repair Procedure 1. Remove the blower motor. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model year Yaris Repair Manual: 2007 or 2008 Yaris, Vehicle Interior – Heating/Air Conditioning – “Air Conditioning: Blower Motor: Removal”. 2. Inspect the blower motor for evidence of foreign objects or debris. • If foreign objects or debris are noticed in the blower motor, remove debris or foreign object, reinstall the blower motor, verify proper operation, and continue to step 3. • If NO foreign objects or debris is noticed in the blower motor, investigate the root cause of the blower motor noise and vibration, replace as necessary, and continue to step 3. 3. Remove the glove box. Refer to TIS, applicable model year Yaris Repair Manual: 2007 Yaris Hatchback, Vehicle Interior – Interior Panels/Trim – “Instrument Panel: Upper Instrument Panel (for Hatchback): Removal”. 2007 Yaris Sedan, Vehicle Interior – Interior Panels/Trim – “Instrument Panel: Upper Instrument Panel (for Sedan): Removal”.

1. If equipped, remove the IP sound insulator. 2. Disconnect the electrical connection from the blower motor. 3. Disconnect the electrical connection from the blower motor resistor. Remove the blower motor resistor retaining screws. 5. Remove the blower motor resistor. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Install the blower motor resistor. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. 2. Install the blower motor resistor retaining screws. Tighten Tighten the screws to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in) . 3. Connect the electrical connection to the blower motor resistor. 4. Connect the electrical connection to the blower motor. 5. If equipped, install the IP sound insulator.

C1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR SUPPLY VOLTAGE Gain access to the blower motor control connector. Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage at Circuit 687 (GY/Y) at motor connector. Is voltage 10 volts or more? Yes GO to C4. No GO to C2. C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 687 (GY/Y) FOR SHORT Remove blower Fuse 30A at primary junction block. Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 687 (GY/Y) at A/C blower motor. Measure resistance. Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes SERVICE Circuit 687 (GY/Y) for short. REPLACE fuse. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. No GO to C3. C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 687 (GY/Y) FOR OPEN Disconnect A/C blower motor control. Connect a jumper wire to Circuit 687 (GY/Y) at blower motor control connector. Connect other end to a known good ground. Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 687 (GY/Y). Measure resistance. Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes GO to C4. No SERVICE Circuit 687 (GY/Y) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. C4 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROL GROUND Gain access to A/C blower motor speed control as outlined. Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 57 (BK) at A/C blower motor speed control connector, J1-2. Measure resistance. Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes
