2001 Saturn SL2 Underhood Fuse Block (UHFB) REMOVAL

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. 2. Disconnect the positive battery cable. 3. Remove UHFB fasteners. 4 Turn UHFB over and open fuse block case. 5. Remove connectors. (1) Forward Lamp, GRA 68-way (2) Engine, BRN 68-way (3) I/P, BLK 68-way (4) I/P, BLK 2-way (5) I/P, GRA 2-way (6) I/P, BLK 1-way 6. Remove UHFB from vehicle. INSTALLATION 1. Connect connectors to fuse block. (1) Forward Lamp, GRA 68-way (2) Engine, BRN 68-way (3) I/P, BLK 68-way (4) I/P, BLK 2-way (5) I/P, GRA 2-way (6) I/P, BLK 1-way (A) Forward Lamp (B) Engine (C) Instrument Panel Close and latch fuse block case. Position UHFB into place. Install UHFB fasteners. Torque: Underhood fuse Block: 9 N.m (80 in-lbs) Connect the positive battery cable. Connect negative battery cable.

ACTION Diagnose engine for engine misfire concern. If diagnostics determine an engine misfire which is characterized by leakage through exhaust valve(s), only replace the affected cylinder head(s). Check horn fuse 6 in the Power Distribution Center and fuse 7 in the Junction Block. If fuse is blown refer to FUSE BLOWN. If fuse is OK, refer to FUSE OK. Fuse Blown 1. Verify condition of battery terminals and voltage, refer to Battery If battery connections and battery charge is OK proceed to Step 2. . Using a voltmeter, test for battery voltage at both sides of horn fuse 7. If voltage is
OK, on both sides of fuse, proceed to Fuse OK. If voltage is OK, on one side of fuse, the fuse is blown, proceed to Step 3. 3. Using a suitable ammeter in place of the fuse, test amperage draw of the horn circuit. If amperage draw is greater than 20 amps without the horn switch depressed, a grounded circuit exists between the fuse and the horn relay Proceed to Step 4. If amperage draw is greater than 20 amps with the horn switch depressed, a grounded circuit exists between the horn relay and the horn. Proceed to step Step 5. 4. Remove the horn relay from the Junction Block. If the amperage draw drops to 0 amps , the horn switch or circuit is shorted. If the amperage draw does not drop to 0 amps , repair short at the Junction Block.

Condition Some customers may comment on an engine tick noise. The distinguishing characteristic of this condition is that it likely will have been present since new, and is typically noticed within the first 161-322 km (100-200 mi). The noise may often be diagnosed as a collapsed lifter. Additionally, the noise may be present at cold start and appear to diminish and then return as the engine warms to operating temperature. This noise is different from other noises that may begin to occur at 3219-4828 km (2000-3000 mi).
