Some 1999-2004 Navigator, 2002-2003 Blackwood, 2003-2005 Aviator, 2003-2004 Marauder and 2003-2004 Mustang vehicles built before 12/19/2004 equipped with 4.6L 4V/5.4 4V engine may exhibit a runs rough, lacks power, and engine misfire, prompted by a MIL light and DTC codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, and P0316. ACTION Diagnose engine for engine misfire concern. If diagnostics determine an engine misfire which is characterized by leakage through exhaust valve(s), only replace the affected cylinder head(s). NOTE: When the battery is disconnected, the clock will need to be reset, the four AM and 8 FM station memory presets Do Not need to
be reset. 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301). 2. Use the two piece Radio Removing Tool T87P-19061-A to pull the radio chassis (18806) out from its mounting position so the antenna and the electrical connectors are accessible. 3. Disconnect the antenna lead and the radio chassis electrical connectors from the radio chassis. 4. Remove the radio chassis. Installation To install, reverse the removal procedure. Check the radio chassis for proper operation.

Note: The factory radio provision is for a Double ISO/DIN style radio. An installation kit is required when installing an aftermarket stereo. 1. Using panel removal tool carefully pry off radio bezel. 2. Extract (6) 10 mm bolts securing radio and climate controls in dash, disconnect and remove. 3. Extract (8) Iso screws securing radio to bracket. 4. Extract (2) Philips screws securing bracket to bezel, pull away and remove radio. FRONT DOOR SPEAKER INSTALLATION: Note: The factory speaker provision is for a 1 ½” tweeter and a 6 ½” 3-Hole speaker mounted to a factory speaker adapter. 1. Remove screw cover from door opener cup and exract (1) Philips head screw, pry bezel out then forward to remove. 2. Remove inside mirror cover. 3. Pry out door cup and extract (1) Philips screw from beneath. 4. Exract (1) plastic fastener from front top portion of door. 5. Pry off door panel, pull away, disconnect, and remove. 6. Extract (3) 10 mm bolts securing speaker, pull away, disconnect, and remove. REAR DOOR SPEAKER INSTALLATION: Note: The factory speaker provision is for a 5 ¼” 3-Hole speaker mounted in a factory speaker adapter. 1. Remove screw cover from door opener cup and extract (1) Philips head screw, pry bezel out then forward to remove. 2. Pry out door cup and extract (1) Philips screw from beneath. 3. Pry off door panel, pull away, disconnect and remove. 4. Extract (3) 10 mm bolts securing speaker , pull away, disconnect, and remove.

1. At the crank position sensor, check for battery voltage to be present on the Red wire with the key on and cranking. The Black wire should be a good ground and the Blue wire should have 5 volts on it from the computer. One may have to disconnect the crank sensor to check for the 5 volt reference. 2. During crank look for a good 5 volt square wave signal on the Blue wire. 3. Check at the ignition coils for good battery voltage key on and cranking. If there is a loss of voltage during crank check the ignition failsafe relay. 4. Check for any stored engine codes. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Ignition Failsafe Sensor The ignition failsafe sensor supplies battery voltage to the ignition coils. The ignition coils can look like they have good battery voltage key on but during crank the ignition failsafe relay can stop sending voltage to the ignition coils.
