2005 Chevrolet Malibu Vacuum Brake Booster Check Valve and/or Hose Replacement Removal Procedure

1. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum check valve (1) from the brake booster. 2. If the vacuum check valve (1) needs to be separated from the vacuum hose (3), release and reposition the clamp (2) on the vacuum hose (3) and remove the check valve (1) from the hose (3). 3. If replacing the vacuum check valve (1), remove the grommet (4) from the brake booster and discard the grommet. 4. If removing the vacuum hose (2), take note of the vacuum hose routing then disconnect from the engine intake manifold connection (3) by releasing tension on the vacuum hose clamp (1) and sliding the vacuum hose (2) off the intake manifold connection (3). Installation Procedure Important: A small amount of denatured alcohol can be used as an assembly aid when installing the vacuum check valve and/or grommet. Do NOT use soap. 1. If the vacuum hose (2) was removed, install the vacuum hose into position on the vehicle as noted prior to removal, then connect the vacuum hose (2) to the engine intake manifold connection (3) and secure with the vacuum hose clamp (1). 2. If the vacuum check valve (1) is being replaced, install a NEW grommet (4) to the brake booster. 3. If the vacuum check valve (1) was separated from the vacuum hose (3), install the check valve (1) to the vacuum hose (3). Install and secure the clamp (2) into position on the hose (3). 4. Connect the brake booster vacuum check valve (1) to the brake booster.

1. Disconnect vacuum hose at speed control servo and install a vacuum gauge into the disconnected hose. 2. Start engine and observe gauge at idle. Vacuum gauge should read at least ten inches of mercury. 3. If vacuum is less than ten inches of mercury, determine source of leak. Check vacuum line to engine for leaks. Also check actual engine intake manifold vacuum. If manifold vacuum does not meet this requirement, check for poor engine performance and repair as necessary. 4. If vacuum line to engine is not leaking, check for leak at vacuum reservoir. To locate and gain access to reservoir, refer to Vacuum Reservoir REMOVAL /INSTALLATION . Disconnect vacuum line at reservoir and connect a hand-operated vacuum pump to reservoir fitting. Apply vacuum. Reservoir vacuum should not bleed off. If vacuum is being lost, replace reservoir. 5. Verify operation of one-way check valve and check it for leaks. a. Locate one-way check valve. The valve is located in vacuum line between vacuum reservoir and engine vacuum source. Disconnect vacuum hoses (lines) at each end of valve. b. Connect a hand-operated vacuum pump to reservoir end of check valve. Apply vacuum. Vacuum should not bleed off. If vacuum is being lost, replace one-way check valve. c. Connect a hand-operated vacuum pump to vacuum source end of check valve. Apply vacuum. Vacuum should flow through valve. If vacuum is not flowing, replace one-way check valve. Seal the fitting at opposite end of valve with a finger and apply vacuum. If vacuum will not hold, diaphragm within check valve has ruptured. Replace valve.

FORD: 2005 Mustang 2004-2005 F-150 2005 Expedition, F-250, F-350 This article supersedes TSB 05-15-8 to update the Service Procedure. ISSUE Some vehicles equipped with a 4.6L 3-valve or 5.4L 3-valve engine may exhibit a ticking and/or knocking noise after reaching normal operating temperature. The noise may be described as “ticks”, “taps”, “knocks”, or “thumps”. In some cases the noise may be a normal characteristic of these engines. In other cases the noise may require further investigation. Sorting out and defining the noise as reported by the customer is important to successfully diagnose and/or repair the condition. ACTION Before starting diagnosis, it is critical to determine the specific engine noise the customer is concerned with. The customer should be interviewed to get their detailed perception and description of the noise, and to determine if the noise occurs at idle or above idle speed, and if the engine is cold, hot, or both. Attempt to duplicate the noise, and determine the source of the symptom. Refer to the following Service Procedure to help determine the source of the noise and if a repair is needed. 1. Locate and identify the three vacuum ports on the intake manifold. 2. Disconnect and discard the vacuum hose that connects the fuel pressure regulator to vacuum port C. 3. Plug vacuum port C with the cap from the tube kit. 4. Replace the fuel pressure regulator. Refer to page 11-113 of the 1998-00 Accord Service Manual. 5. Install the new vacuum hose kit using one of the following procedures. M/T WITH CRUISE CONTROL 1. Remove and discard the cap from vacuum port A. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose to vacuum port A. 3. Anchor the long vacuum hose by attaching it to the rear intake air duct clip and to the cruise control hose. 4. Route the new vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator. Attach the hose to the three rear clips on the engine wire harness cover. A/T WITH CRUISE CONTROL 1. Remove and discard the vacuum hose from vacuum port A. This hose supplies vacuum to the rear engine mount control solenoid. 2. Connect the short vacuum hose from the top of the Y fitting to vacuum port A.

cooler Hose replacement Procedure 1) Place vehicle on lift. 2) Remove the engine under cover. Hose clamp location 3) Squeeze the hose clamps and reposition to remove the hose. Confirm the direction and angle of the original hose clamps before removal. It is important to reinstall clamps in their original position. 4) Place a drain pan under the hose to collect any CVTF which may leak out. caution: if the cVtF has spilled onto the exhaust pipe or body frame, wipe it off with a rag to avoid dripping fluid. 5) Remove the inlet cooler hose. Note: Be extremely careful not to damage the pipe. 6) Make sure the cooler hose pipe ends are clean prior to installing a new hose. 7) Install a new hose reusing the original hose clamps. Note: Do not permit the end of the hose to extend past the raised lip section of the pipe. Be sure to place the hose clamps in their original position. If the original hose clamps are damaged or deformed, replace as necessary. note: Neither replenishment of transmission fluid nor inspection of fluid level will be neces- sary during replacement of the hose unless the original hose was found to be leaking fluid. Approx. 50cc through 70cc of fluid may be lost during hose replacement. The amount of fluid remaining will still keep the necessary level with sufficient reserve margin. check and add cVtF cAution: • CVTF level changes along with CVTF temperature. When inspecting CVTF level, observe the specified CVTF temperature. • Always use specified CVTF or equivalent. Using other fluid except for specified or equivalent will cause malfunction.
