1. 2. 3. 4. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Clear the DTC with the HDS. Remove the fuel fill cap for 5 seconds , then install it. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2422 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate FAILED? YES – Go to step 6. NO – If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for a poor connection or loose terminals at the EVAP canister vent shut valve and ECM/PCM. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 2 and recheck. Clear the DTC with the HDS. Remove the EVAP canister vent shut valve from the EVAP canister. Connect the 2P connector to the EVAP canister vent shut valve. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Do the EVAP CVS ON in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Check the EVAP canister vent shut valve (A) operation. Does the valve operate? YES – Check for a blockage in the EVAP canister, then install the EVAP canister vent shut valve, and go to step 14. NO – Go to step 12. 12. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 13. Replace the EVAP canister vent shut valve. 14. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 15. Reset the ECM/PCM with the HDS. 16. Do the ECM/PCM idle learn procedure. 17. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 18. Remove the fuel fill cap for 5 seconds , then install it. 19. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with no load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle. 20. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS. Are any Temporary DTCs or DTCs indicated? YES – If DTC P2422 is indicated, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor or the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1. If any other Temporary DTCs or DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC’s troubleshooting. NO – Go to step 21. 21. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P2422 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS. Does the screen indicate PASSED? YES – Troubleshooting is complete. NO – If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the FTP sensor or the EVAP canister vent shut valve and the ECM/PCM, then go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 16 and recheck.

IF YOU CONFIRM: A MIL “ON” with one or more of the following DTC(s) stored: • P0442 / P0448 / P0455 / P0456 / P1446 AND • EVAP Vent Control S/V is stuck open or will not seal when operated/closed. ACTIONS: 1. Replace the EVAP Vent Control S/V. 2. Install the Filter Kit (refer to the Service Procedure in this bulletin). 3. Clear any DTCs stored in the ECM. SERVICE PROCEDURE Replace Vent Control Valve 1. Replace the EVAP Vent Control S/V. • Refer to section EC in the Service Manual for replacement information. Install Filter Kit 1. Remove the spare tire. 2. Remove the EVAP canister mounting bolt (see Figure 1). • The canister will drop about 3 inches which will give you working room at the top. 3. Disconnect the vent hose (see Figure 1). 4. Reach above the EVAP canister and disconnect the vent hose at the vent control valve and remove the hose (see Figure 2). • Twisting the hose at the opposite end will help loosen it at the vent control valve. 5. Remove the vent hose connector; pull it straight out (see Figure 2). 6. Install the new vent hose connector—included in the filter kit (see Figure 3). 7. Cut out the template on page 10 and place it on the frame rail as shown in Figure 4. • Make sure the template is aligned (straight) with the frame rail. 8. Center punch and drill at the locations shown in Figure 4: • Upper location: Drill a 13/32 (10 mm) hole. • Lower location: Drill a 5/16 (8 mm) hole. Center punch and drill here: 13/32 (10 mm)

Some customers whose vehicles are operated in dusty type environments, such as farming or mining off-road type applications, may comment about the illumination of the check engine light, with a DTC of P0446 (Restricted/Blocked EVAP Vent Path) being set. Cause Dirt and dust intrusion into the EVAP canister vent hose assembly, resulting in restricted air flow, may cause this condition. Correction (1999-2007 Classic/Old Style Models) After following the published SI diagnostics for P0446 and determining that the EVAP canister vent valve is the cause of the MIL light, replace the existing EVAP canister vent valve assembly with a new assembly. This new assembly is a sealed unit that is designed to be vented through a remote filter box. To ensure correct installation, follow the procedures below.

FORD: 2004-2005 F-150 This article supersedes TSB 06-15-11 to update the vehicle model years. ISSUE Some 2004-2005 F-150, 2005 Excursion, and 2005-2008 F-Super Duty vehicles may exhibit rust stains on the edges of the front bumper center vent and fog lamp openings. ACTION Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition. 2005 Excursion 2005-2008 F-Super Duty 2. Remove two (2) push pins on license plate bracket and remove bracket. 3. Disconnect fog lamp wiring at fog lamps (if equipped). 4. Remove fog lamp wiring retaining clips off fog lamp brackets one (1) per side. 5. Disconnect engine block heater retaining clip from bumper if vehicle is equipped. 6. Remove air deflector flap attachment pins from lower shelf of bumper if equipped. 7. Remove the front bumper corner bracket bolts as shown in WSM, Section 501-19. NOTE THE AID OF AN ASSISTANT IS REQUIRED TO REMOVE THE FRONT BUMPER. 8. Remove the four (4) front bumper retaining bolts as shown in WSM, Section 501-19: Bumpers. Remove the front bumper from the vehicle. 9. Remove fog lamp/bracket (if equipped). 10. Clean excessive dirt from an area of 2? (50 mm) around all 3 cutouts on the inside of the bumper. 11. Clean the red rust stains from the inside edges of the center vent and fog lamp openings with Motorcraft® Custom Bright Metal Cleaner. 12. Install masking tape to all three (3) openings. (Figure 1)

REMOVAL PROCEDURE 1. Turn OFF the ignition. CAUTION: Refer to Hoist Caution in Service Precautions . 2. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting. 3. Bend the retaining tab for the EVAP canister vent valve. 4. Remove the valve from the bracket. 5. Disconnect the electrical connector from the EVAP canister vent valve. 6. Loosen the vent hose clamp and remove the vent hose from the EVAP vent valve. 7. Remove the EVAP canister vent valve from the vehicle. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Connect the vent hose to the EVAP canister vent valve and tighten the hose clamp. 2. Connect the electrical connector to the EVAP canister vent valve. 3. Install the EVAP canister vent valve to the bracket. 4. Bend the retaining tab for the EVAP canister vent valve. 5. Lower the vehicle
