SYMPTOM The windshield washer pump does not work. PROBABLE CAUSE Impact to the front bumper pushes the bumper back far enough to break the washer pump hose fitting. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the windshield washer reservoir and washer motor with updated parts. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Turn the ignition switch to ACC (I) to unlock the steering column. 2. Raise the vehicle on a lift. 3. Remove the right front inner fender. Unhook and pull back the bumper for better access. CLIPS (6 places.) SCREWS (6 places.) RIGHT FRONT INNER FENDER 4. Release the hooks on the upper right side of the front bumper. 5. Remove the clip from the filler neck, then remove the filler neck. FILLER NECK CLIP WINDSHIELD WASHER RESERVOIR CLIP WASHER MOTOR CONNECTOR BOLT BOLTS WASHER TUBES 6. Remove the right front fender trim, and disconnect the washer hose from the 90-degree fitting. CLIP FRONT FENDER TRIM FRONT HOSE 7. Disconnect the 2P connector and the two washer tubes from the washer motor. 8. Remove the washer reservoir clip and the three bolts, then pull out the reservoir. 9. Assemble the new reservoir components, but do not install the filler neck. 10. Trim 85 mm off the end of the 1,260 mm washer tube only. 11. Route the washer tubes on the reservoir. NOTE: The black fitting is for the front windshield nozzles, and the white fitting is for the rear nozzle. 85 mm 12. Install the reservoir. 13. Connect the rear tube to the straight fitting in the wheelwell. 14. Connect the 2P connector to the washer motor. NEW RESERVOIR Connect the rear washer tube. CLIP BOLT 9.8 N•m (7.2 lb•ft) 15. Install the filler neck with the original clip. Connect the front washer tube to the 90-degree fitting. Then reinstall the front fender trim. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. Turn the steering wheel to move the front wheels to the full left position. Raise and support the vehicle. Remove the plastic push-in fasteners that secure the forward end of the left front wheelhouse splash shield to the inner fender panel and the front fascia. 5. Pull the forward end of the left front wheelhouse splash shield away from the inner fender panel and front fascia far enough to access the washer pump/motor unit (2) on the outboard side of the washer reservoir (4) for service. 6. Disconnect the headlamp and dash wire harness connector (1) for the washer pump motor from the motor connector receptacle. 1. 2. 3. 4. NOTE: To aid in reinstallation, note the installed position of the washer hoses prior to disconnecting them from the washer pump. 7. Disconnect the front and rear washer hoses (3) from the barbed outlet nipples of the washer pump and allow the washer fluid to drain into a clean container for reuse. 8. Grasp the top of the washer pump/motor housing and pull it firmly outward far enough to disengage the snap post on the top of the motor from the receptacle in the reservoir. 9. Grasp the lower part of the washer pump/motor housing and, using a back and forth twisting action, pull the unit outward from the reservoir far enough to disengage the pump inlet nipple from the rubber grommet seal in the reservoir. 10. Remove the rubber grommet seal from the washer pump mounting hole in the reservoir and discard. 1. Lubricate a new rubber grommet seal with clean washer fluid and install it into the washer pump mounting hole located in the outboard side of the washer reservoir (4). Always use a new rubber grommet seal on the reservoir. 2. Position the barbed inlet nipple of the washer pump/motor unit (2) to the rubber grommet seal in the reservoir. 3. Using hand pressure, press on the lower part of the washer pump firmly and evenly until the barbed inlet nipple is fully seated in the rubber grommet seal in the reservoir. 4. Align the snap post on the top of the motor housing with the snap post receptacle in the washer reservoir. 5. Using hand pressure, press firmly and evenly on the top of motor housing until the post snaps into the receptacle. NOTE: Be certain to reconnect the front and rear washer hoses to the proper outlet nipples of the washer pump. Failure to properly connect the hoses will cause the front and rear washer systems to operate incorrectly. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11. Reconnect the front and rear washer hoses (3) to the barbed outlet nipples of the washer pump. Reconnect the headlamp and dash wire harness connector (1) for the washer pump/motor unit to the connector receptacle on the top of the motor. Reinstall the plastic push-in fasteners that secure the left front wheelhouse splash shield to the inner fender panel and the front fascia. Lower the vehicle. Reconnect the battery negative cable. Refill the washer reservoir with the washer fluid drained during removal.

SUBJECT: MODELS: Heated Windshield Washer Module Short Circuit – Add Wire Harness 2006-2008 model year Buick Lucerne; Cadillac DTS; HUMMER H2 vehicles; 2007- 2008 model year Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Escalade EXT; Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado, Suburban, Tahoe; GMC Acadia, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon XL; Saturn OUTLOOK vehicles; and 2008 model year Buick Enclave vehicles equipped with a heated washer fluid system. A short circuit on the printed circuit board for the washer fluid heater may overheat the control-circuit ground wire. This may cause other electrical malfunctions, create an odor, or cause smoke. In rare cases, it may cause a fire. PARTS INFORMATION No parts are required to pull the heated windshield washer fuse. When wire harnesses are available for ordering, a revised bulletin with ordering information will be sent to dealers/retailers. SERVICE PROCEDURE Important: Until wire harnesses become available, the following procedure allows dealers/retailers to remove the heated windshield wiper fuse, disabling the system. 2007-2008 Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT, Escalade ESV, 2007-2008 Chevrolet Avalanche, Silverado (GMT900), Suburban, Tahoe, 2007-2008 GMC Sierra (GMT900), Yukon and Yukon XL 1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in SI. Important: The underhood fuse block is located in the engine compartment on the driver side of the vehicle. Refer to Underhood Fuse Block in the Owner’s Manual for fuse information. 2. Locate the underhood bussed electrical center (UBEC). 3. Remove the UBEC cover and locate the 60 amp heated windshield washer fuse. Important: Remove the two relays (1) next to the fuse to gain access to the fuse. 4. Remove the 60 amp heated windshield washer fuse (2) using needle-nose pliers. 5. Store the 60 amp heated windshield washer fuse in the glove compartment. 6. Install the two relays (1) removed in Step 4. 7. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in SI. 8. Test the operation of the windshield wiper system. 8.1 Ensure the wiper system functions in low and high positions. 8.2 Verify that the windshield wiper/washer switch functions. The windshield wiper system should provide wiper fluid to the windshield. 8.3 Ensure that the heated windshield washer fluid system has been disabled. • Verify that the heated windshield washer switch does NOT flash. 9. Secure the UBEC cover on the UBEC. 10. Close the hood.

1. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03 for the procedure. 2. Disconnect the battery ground cable (14301) . 3. Remove the generator drive belt, water pump and power steering pump drive belt, and the A/C compressor drive belt (if equipped). Refer to Section 03-05 for the removal procedures. 4. Raise and support the vehicle. 5. Use Strap Wrench D85L-6000-A or equivalent to hold the water pump pulley (8509) while removing the four water pump pulley bolts. 6. Remove the water pump pulley from the water pump (8501) . 7. Remove the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Refer to the procedure in this section 8. Remove the five lower engine front cover bolts and the lower engine front cover (6019) . 9. NOTE: Make a note of the location of the one water pump stud/bolt for ease of installation. Remove the six water pump bolts. 10. Remove the water pump . Installation 1. NOTE: Ensure the mating surfaces between the water pump and the cylinder block (6010) are cleaned of any sealant material. Install a continuous 2.0-3.0mm (0.079-0.118 inch) wide bead of Gasket Maker E2AZ-19562-B or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSK-M2G348-A5, on the water pump and position the water pump on the cylinder block . 2. NOTE: Refer to the note made during removal for the location of the stud/bolt. Install the six water pump bolts. Tighten the water pump bolts to 16-21 Nm (12-15 lb-ft). 3. Position the water pump pulley on the water pump and install the four water pump pulley bolts. 4. Use Strap Wrench D85L-6000-A or equivalent to hold the water pump pulley , and tighten the four water pump pulley bolts to 16-21 Nm (12-15 lb-ft). 5. Install the lower engine front cover and the five lower engine front cover bolts. Tighten the five lower engine front cover bolts to 3-5 Nm (27-44 lb-in). 6. Install the crankshaft pulley . Refer to the procedure in this section. 7. Lower the vehicle. 8. Install and adjust the generator drive belt, water pump and power steering pump drive belt, and the A/C compressor drive belt (if equipped). Refer to Section 03-05 for the installation and adjustment procedures. 9. Connect the battery ground cable . 10. Fill the cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03 for the procedure. 11. Start the engine (6007) and check for leaks.

1. Drain engine cooling system. Refer to Section 03-03. 2. Remove upper radiator sight shield (8C291). 3. Disconnect radiator overflow hose (8075) from radiator (8005). Remove bolts retaining coolant recovery reservoir (8A080) and bracket to radiator support. Disconnect coolant recovery reservoir from lower locator and remove coolant recovery reservoir. 4. Remove cooling fan motor, fan blade (8600) and fan shroud (8146) assembly as described in Section 03-03. 5. Rotate drive belt tensioner (6B209) . Remove drive belt (8620) . Refer to Section 03-05. 6. Remove retaining bolts and water pump pulley (8509) . 7. Remove power steering pump pulley (3A733) and remove water pump-to-power steering pump brace. 8. Remove bolt and nuts retaining ignition coil (12029) and bracket. Position out of the way. 9. Remove heater water outlet tube retaining bolts and heater water outlet tube (18663) from water pump (8501) . 10. Disconnect lower radiator hose (8286) from water pump . 11. CAUTION: If using a prying device to assist in water pump removal, be careful not to damage the mating surfaces. Remove water pump retaining bolts, stud bolts and nuts. Remove water pump . Discard old water pump housing gasket (8507) . Installation 1. NOTE: Lightly oil all bolt and stud threads before installation except those specifying special sealant with SAE 5W-30 Super Premium Motor Oil XO-5W30-QSP or equivalent meeting Ford specification WSS-M2C153-G. Clean gasket surfaces on water pump and engine front cover (6019) . 2. NOTE: Gasket and Trim Adhesive F3AZ-19B508-B or equivalent meeting Ford specifications ESR-M11P17 and ESE-M2G52-A is recommended to hold the water pump housing gasket in position. Position a new water pump housing gasket on water pump sealing surface. 3. NOTE: The threads of the No. 1 water pump retaining bolt must be coated with Pipe Sealant with Teflon® D8AZ-19554-A or equivalent meeting Ford specifications WSK- M2G350-A2 and ESR-M18P7-A before installing. Position water pump on the engine front cover . Install retaining bolts, stud bolts and nuts. Tighten retaining bolts and studs to 20-30 Nm (15-22 lb-ft). Tighten retaining nuts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb-in). 4. Inspect O-ring (replace as necessary) and install heater water outlet tube to water pump . Tighten retaining bolts to 8-12 Nm (71-106 lb-in). 5. Position coil and bracket assembly. Tighten retainers to 25 Nm (18 lb-ft). 6. Install lower radiator hose to water pump . Tighten clamps securely. 7. Install water pump-to-power steering pump brace and install water pump pulley .
