REMOVAL 1. REMOVE REAR BUMPER ASSEMBLY (w/o Rear Lower Spoiler) a. Put protective tape around the rear bumper assembly. b. Using a screwdriver, open the 2 rear bumper plates. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. c. Remove the 6 screws and 2 clips. d. Disengage the 12 claws and disconnect the rear bumper assembly as shown in the illustration. HINT: Use the same procedures for the RH side and LH side. e. Remove the rear bumper assembly. 2. REMOVE REAR FLOOR BOARD (w/ Rear Lower Spoiler) a. Remove the 4 screws, 2 clips, 3 nuts and rear floor board. 3. REMOVE REAR BUMPER ASSEMBLY (w/Rear Lower Spoiler)

2010 Toyota Prius Rear Brake Squeak

Introduction Some 2010 Prius vehicles may experience rear brake squeak when backing up or moving forward during the ?rst few brake applications when the brakes are cold. An updated rear brake shim kit is available to reduce the likelihood of this condition occurring. Repair Procedure 1. Test drive the vehicle to con?rm the squeak is coming from the rear brakes. The condition occurs more frequently when backing up during light brake pedal application after cold soak. 2. Remove rear brake shims. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) 2010 Prius Repair Manual: Brake – Brake (Rear) Brake: Rear Brake: Removal 3. Clean the rear brake pad backing plates with a clean shop towel and apply a small amount of black disc brake grease to the backing plate of each rear brake pad. NOTE Make sure disc brake grease is not applied to the lining of the rear brake pads. 4. Install the No. 1 Anti-squeal shims. Install the No. 2 Anti-squeal shims. Figure 3. 5. Using the Variable Pin Wrench (SST 09960-10010), slowly rotate the caliper piston until the piston groove is positioned as shown in the illustration below. 6. Install new rear brake anti-squeal shims with brake pads into the rear caliper assemblies brackets. Refer to (TIS), 2010 Prius Repair Manual: Brake – Brake (Rear) Brake: Rear Brake: Installation NOTE • When installing the rear disc brake caliper assembly on the rear disc brake caliper mounting bracket, ensure the protrusion on the brake pad is centered in the caliper piston groove. • It is important to ensure the protrusion is not contacting the outer edges of the caliper piston groove. (both sides) 7. Road test the vehicle to con?rm the condition has been reduced.

BUMPER COVER – REAR Exploded View Removal and Installation 1. Remove the 2 rear bumper cover lower screws (1 each side). To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) . 2. Remove the 4 rear bumper cover center screws. 3. Remove the 2 rear bumper cover lower pushpins. 4. Remove the 2 rear splash shield-to-rear bumper cover screws (1 each side). 5. Remove the 2 rear bumper cover upper screws (1 each side). To install, tighten to 5 Nm (44 lb-in) . 6. Remove the 2 liftgate alignment bumper bolts and the 2 liftgate alignment bumpers. To install, tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) . 7. Disconnect the parking aid system or trailer tow electrical connector, if equipped. 8. Remove the rear bumper cover. 9. To install, reverse the removal procedure. When installing, position the rear bumper cover into the bumper slides.

Front Bumper Fascia Replacement (Sedan/Wagon) Removal Procedure 1. Remove the push retainers from the front of the front wheelhouse panel. 2. Remove the lower front and the middle front plastic retainers. 3. Remove the upper front plastic retainers. 4. Slide the front fascia forward. 5. Disconnect the side marker lamp sockets from the lamp housings. 6. Remove the front fascia. Installation Procedure 1. If installing a new fascia, transfer the side marker lamps, fascia brackets, fog-lamp grilles (if SL2 or SW2 is not equipped with fog lamps) and the emblem. 2. Install the front fascia assembly to the vehicle by positioning the fascia over the front bumper fascia energy absorber. 3. Install the side marker lamp sockets to the lamp housings. Install the fascia ends over the shoulder bolts extending down from the front fender upper support bracket assembly. The holes in the fascia are slotted to allow for installation without removing the shoulder bolts. The front fascia lower support plate should be on the lower side of the fascia. 5. Install the retainers, the front fascia to the front wheelhouse panel. 6. Install the upper front plastic retainers. 7. Install the lower front and the middle front plastic retainers.

Fascia Replacement – Front Bumper Removal Procedure 1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting(). 2. Remove the front fascia extensions. 3. Remove the front push-in fasteners that secure the lower air deflector to the fascia. 4. Disconnect the fog lamp/ turn signal electrical connectors (1). 5. Remove the bolts (2) that secure the bumper fascia to the front fender. 6. Remove the push-in retainers (1) across the top side of the fascia. 7. Loosen approximately 4 turns, the inner fastener nut (2) securing the fascia to the inner fender. 8. Loosen the fascia from the key slots at the inner fender attachments. 9. With an assistant, remove the fascia by pulling the fascia forward from the vehicle. Installation Procedure 1. With an assistant, position the fascia (3) to the vehicle. Install 2 push-in retainers (1) in order to hold the fascia to the upper tie bar. 2. Position the fascia to the key slot at the inner fender.
