Removal Procedure 1. Remove the upper fan shroud. 2. Install the J 46406 and the J 41240-5A to the fan clutch. 3. Remove the fan hub nut from the water pump in a counterclockwise rotation. 4. Lay the fan blade face down on a workbench. 5. Remove the fan clutch bolts from the rear of the fan blade. 6. Separate the fan clutch from the fan blade. Installation Procedure 2006 Chevy Truck Avalanche 1500 2WD V8-5.3L VIN T 1. Install the fan clutch bolts. 2. Install the fan clutch onto the fan blade. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. 3. Install the fan clutch bolts. ^ Tighten the bolts to 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.). 4. Install the fan blade. 5. Install the J 46406 and the J 41240-5A to the fan clutch. ^ Tighten the fan clutch nut clockwise to 56 Nm (41 ft. lbs.). 6. Install the upper fan shroud.

1. Remove the rear sill plate. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement – Liftgate (See: Scuff Plate\Service and Repair\Removal and Replacement) . 2. Move the rear seat forward. 3. Remove the load floor. 4. Disconnect the cargo hooks in the rear side trim panel. 5. Remove the push pins from the side trim. 6. If necessary, remove the jack to access the driver side rear side trim panel. 7. Remove the rear side trim panel. Installation Procedure 1. Align the rear side trim panel. Snap the panel into place. 2. Install the push pins to the side trim. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices. 3. Install the cargo hooks. Tighten the cargo hooks to 25 N.m (18 lb ft). 4. Install the load floor. 5. Install the rear sill plate. Refer to Door Sill Plate Replacement – Liftgate (See: Scuff Plate\Service and Repair\Removal and Replacement) .

CAUTION: To prevent possible Electrostatic Discharge damage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Do Not touch the connector pins or soldered components on the circuit. Service of the PCM should normally consist of either replacement of the PCM or a Programmable Read Only Memory (PROM) change. If the diagnostic procedures call for the PCM to be replaced, the engine calibrator (PROM) and PCM should be checked first to see if they are the correct parts. If they are remove the PROM from the faulty PCM and install it in the new service PCM. THE SERVICE PCM WILL NOT CONTAIN A PROM. Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) 51 indicates the PROM is installed improperly or has malfunctioned. When DTC 51 is obtained, check the PROM installation for bent pins or pins not fully seated in the socket. If the PROM is installed correctly and DTC 51 still shows, replace the PROM. Important: When replacing the production PCM with a service PCM (controller), it is important to transfer the Broadcast code and production PCM number to the service PCM label. Please do not record on PCM cover. This will allow positive identification of PCM parts throughout the service life of the vehicle. CAUTION: To prevent internal PCM damage, the ignition must be “OFF” when disconnecting or reconnecting power to PCM (for example, battery cable, PCM pigtail, PCM fuse, jumper cables, etc.). REMOVE OR DISCONNECT 1. Negative battery cable. 2. Right side sound insulator. 3. Vacuum center. 4. Connectors to PCM. 5. PCM. 6. PROM access cover. 7. PROM from PCM. INSTALL OR CONNECT 1. PROM to PCM. 2. PROM access cover. 3. PCM. 4. Connectors to PCM. 5. Vacuum center. 6. Right side sound insulator. 7. Negative battery cable.

Important: The front and rear sections of the cooler lines can be serviced separately. Refer to the appropriate steps when servicing individual lines. Perform the following procedure when removing the cooler lines from the quick connect fittings. 1. Pull the plastic cap back from the quick connect fining and down along the cooler line about 5 cm (2 inch) . 2. Using a bent-tip screwdriver, pull on one of the open ends of the retaining ring in order to rotate the retaining ring around the quick connect fining until the retaining ring is out of position and can be completely removed. 3. Remove the retaining ring from the quick connect fitting. 4. Discard the retaining ring. 5. Pull the cooler line straight out from the quick connect fitting. Installation Procedure Important: Do not reuse any of existing fittings if there is excessive corrosion. Do not reuse any of the existing retaining rings that were removed from the existing quick connect fittings. All retaining rings being installed must be new. Ensure the following procedures are performed when installing the new retaining rings onto the fittings.
