Fitting a Mitsubishi ECU The following steps outline the installation procedure: 1. Remove the factory ECU from the vehicle: Ensure the key is in the OFF position. The factory ECU is located on the left A pillar about 30cm above the floor. Unplug the wiring harness from the factory ECU. Remove the 6mm bolts (10mm socket) that retain the ECU and remove the ECU from the vehicle. DO NOT touch the exposed pins in the factory ECU connector. 2. Remove the factory ECUs circuit board from its enclosure: Ensure you are following the given anti-static guidelines and ARE WEARING A CONDUCTIVE WRIST STRAP connected to a conductive working surface. Using four small flat bladed screwdrivers, carefully pry apart the four plastic lugs retaining the ECUs header plate into the case. Some force may be required to remove the circuit board from the case as it may be partially glued to the inside. Remove the circuit board by removing the retaining screws. Hold it only by the plastic header and place it aside. 3. Connect the ECU USB tuning cable and the expansion loom if required. 4. Fit the Vi-PEC Plug-In ECU, there are several options depending on the vehicle: · EVO IV to VIII – If fitting to a short case, CAREFULLY snap the PCB extension off. It may be necessary to use a sharp knife to first score the break off points. Place the factory ECU in the packaging your Vi-PEC ECU came in for its protection. Carefully fit the supplied aluminium end plate to the enclosure. Make sure the end plate is fitted to allow any cables to exit on the left side of the header. · EVO IX – Place the factory ECU in the packaging your Vi-PEC ECU came in for its protection. Carefully fit the supplied aluminium end plate to the enclosure. Make sure the end plate is fitted to allow any cables to exit on the left side of the header. · All Others proceed to step 5 5. Install the Vi-PEC ECU circuit board into the enclosure, then fit the enclosure into the vehicle. 6. Connect the ECU to the factory wiring loom. 7. Do NOT attempt to start the vehicle. Tools required: Medium Phillips screwdriver Small flat blade screwdriver Procedure: The transmission ECU is located underneath the carpeting directly in front of the front passenger seat. First remove the passenger kick panel trim located to the right in the passenger footwell. For Passat: The panel is fastened at the top by a clip and at the bottom with a phillips screw. The lower screw is under a small cover at the bottom of the panel. Pop off the cover with the small flat blade screwdriver and remove the screw. Pop the top clip by gently pulling at the top of panel. Pull the panel free, noting the way it clips to the lower door opening trim strip. For A4/A6/allroad: The panel is fastened by two phillips screws. The lower screw is under a small cover at the bottom of the panel. Pop off the cover with the small flat blade screwdriver and remove the screw. the upper screw and gently pull the panel free, noting the way it clips to the lower door opening trim strip. For all cars: Firmly grab lower door opening trim strip and pull upwards to pop the clips from the car body, starting at the front. This will free the carpet edge. Reach beneath the carpet to find the ECU protective plastic box. Pull forward and up to release it from the clips on the floorboard. Once released, the entire box can be pulled out from under carpet, still attached to its wiring harness. Pop open the lid of this box to reveal the transmission ECU. Wiggle the ECU free from the plastic box. The wiring harness unfastens from the ECU by rotating the silver metal clip away from the ECU body. When replacing the black plastic box under the carpet, make sure the rear of the box is properly seated in the floor clips on the floorboard. DESCRIPTION: The Electronic Stability Control (ESC) of some 2006 Sonata vehicles equipped with 3.3 Liter engines may be programmed to be too sensitive, causing inadvertent brake application on banked curves. To correct this condition, the ESC ECU may be reprogrammed using the Hi-Scan Pro as described in this bulletin. VEHICLES AFFECTED: ^ Model: 2006 SONATA 3.3L vehicles with ESC ^ Affected vehicle production date range: ^ Produced from May 5, 2005 through June 10, 2005 ESC ECU SPECIFICATIONS: CAUTIONS BEFORE REPROGRAMMING: 1. Perform reprogramming with the ignition key in the “ON” position. 2. Be careful not to disconnect any cables connected to the vehicle or Hi-Scan Pro during reprogramming. WARNING : ^ When reprogramming the SONATA ESC ECU, the manual reprogramming mode [error mode] is not available. ^ If ESC ECU reprogramming is interrupted during the “ESC ECU software data download” process as a result of cable disconnection, power interruption or battery discharge, the ESC ECU must be replaced. 3. Do not start the engine during reprogramming. 4. Do not turn the ignition key OFF during reprogramming. 5. When the reprogramming is completed, wait for about 20 seconds and then start the engine to confirm proper operation of the vehicle. ESC ECU REPROGRAMMING: NOTE :Verify that the vehicle was manufactured within the affected production date range and the campaign is open per the DCS interactive screen. 1. Attach the Data Link Connector (DLC) cable to the Hi-Scan Pro main body and securely tighten the two bolts. 2. Remove the system software card from the Hi-Scan Pro and insert the reprogramming software card with the new ECU program into the Hi-Scan top slot.

Cooling fan motors operate when Powertrain Control Module (PCM) determines fan operation depending on crankshaft position, Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor, vehicle speed, Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor, A/C switch and refrigerant pressure switch inputs. Cooling fans receive power through the cooling fan relay. Condenser fan operates only when A/C compressor clutch engages except 2004 models with turbocharger which uses dual fans for engine cooling with or without A/C operation. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . COMPONENT LOCATION For component locations, refer to illustrations. See Fig. 1 -Fig. 3 .
