SYMPTOM The audio display and controls (knobs, buttons, bars) of the audio-HVAC display module are dim or are dark. PROBABLE CAUSE Faulty audio unit. VEHICLES AFFECTED NOTE: Affected vehicles do not have the navigation system. 2003 Accord (except DX models and LX L4 models): ALL CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the audio unit. Refer to S/B 98-019, Audio Unit In-Warranty Exchange/Out-of-Warranty Repair. If a customer calls ahead to schedule an appointment, and the vehicle is in the affected VIN range, order the remanufactured audio unit right away so it is available when the customer comes in. 3. Remove the audio-HVAC display module (see page 22-289 of the 2003–04 Accord Service Manual). (In ISIS, use the keyword DIS MOD, and select Audio- HVAC Display Module Removal/Installation from the list.) 4. Remove the faulty audio unit from the audio-HVAC display module (see page 22-290). (In ISIS, use the keyword DIS PAN, and select Audio-HVAC Display Panel Removal/Installation from the list.) 5. Transfer the left and right brackets from the faulty audio unit to the remanufactured audio unit. If the remanufactured unit has a shipping cover and shipping screws, make sure you transfer them to the faulty unit being returned. 6. Install the remanufactured audio unit in the audio- HVAC display module. Then reinstall the audio- HVAC display module. 7. Enter the anti-theft code for the new audio unit. Enter your customer’s radio station presets if you recorded them in step 2. 8. Make sure all of the functions of the audio unit and HVAC work properly.

Some 1999-2004 Navigator, 2002-2003 Blackwood, 2003-2005 Aviator, 2003-2004 Marauder and 2003-2004 Mustang vehicles built before 12/19/2004 equipped with 4.6L 4V/5.4 4V engine may exhibit a runs rough, lacks power, and engine misfire, prompted by a MIL light and DTC codes P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, and P0316. ACTION Diagnose engine for engine misfire concern. If diagnostics determine an engine misfire which is characterized by leakage through exhaust valve(s), only replace the affected cylinder head(s). CONDITION SUMMARY: ELECTRONIC PARKING BRAKE (EPB) ACTUATOR DIAGNOSTICS Situation: This bulletin has been developed to act as a diagnostic aid in the course of diagnosis and repair the following customer concerns of the Electronic Parking Brake (EPB) actuator: • Electronic parking brake fails to apply effectively (the parking brake may not apply at all; or the parking brake performance may be below the required standard). • Electronic parking brake fails to release properly (brake drag). • Red brake warning lamp illuminated (constant or flashing). • Message center displays ‘Parking Brake Fault’ or ‘Cannot Apply Parking Brake’ Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) C1801-00 (C1801), C1802-00 (C1802), or C1803-00 (C1803 may also be logged. Action: If a customer should express the above concern and one or more of the DTC’s are stored, follow the Diagnostic Procedure outlined below in this bulletin.

1. At the crank position sensor, check for battery voltage to be present on the Red wire with the key on and cranking. The Black wire should be a good ground and the Blue wire should have 5 volts on it from the computer. One may have to disconnect the crank sensor to check for the 5 volt reference. 2. During crank look for a good 5 volt square wave signal on the Blue wire. 3. Check at the ignition coils for good battery voltage key on and cranking. If there is a loss of voltage during crank check the ignition failsafe relay. 4. Check for any stored engine codes. Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor Ignition Failsafe Sensor The ignition failsafe sensor supplies battery voltage to the ignition coils. The ignition coils can look like they have good battery voltage key on but during crank the ignition failsafe relay can stop sending voltage to the ignition coils.
