Removal Procedure 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Install a C-clamp over the body of the brake caliper, with the C-clamp ends against the rear of the caliper body and the outboard disc brake pad. Tighten the C-clamp until the caliper piston is compressed into the caliper bore enough to allow the caliper to slide past the brake rotor. Remove the C-clamp. 6. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic’s wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak. Important: Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Remove the brake caliper and the caliper mounting bracket as an assembly from the steering knuckle and support the assembly with heavy mechanic’s wire, or equivalent. Ensure that there is no tension on the hydraulic brake flexible hose. 7. Matchmark the position of the brake rotor to the wheel studs.

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions. Removal Procedure Tools Required J41013 Rotor Resurfacing Kit J42450-A Wheel Hub Resurfacing Kit 1. Release the park brake. 2. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.. 3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels. 4. Mark the relationship of the rotor to the axle flange.5. Install a C-clamp over the body of the brake caliper, with the C-clamp ends against the rear of the caliper body and the outboard disc brake pad. 6. Slowly tighten the C-clamp until the pistons are pushed into the caliper bores enough to remove the caliper from the pads. 7. Remove the C-clamp from the caliper. 8. Remove the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts.

REMOVAL – FRONT BRAKE ROTOR 1. Raise vehicle on jackstands or centered on a frame contact type hoist. See Hoisting in Lubrication and Maintenance. 2. Remove the front wheel and tire assembly. 3. Remove the two mounting bolts securing the disc brake caliper adapter with brake caliper to the steering knuckle. 4. Remove the disc brake caliper and adapter as an assembly from the steering knuckle. Hang the assembly out of the way using wire or a bungee cord. Use care not to overextend the brake hose when doing this. 5. Remove any retainer clips from the wheel mounting studs. 6. Remove brake rotor from hub by pulling it straight off wheel mounting studs. INSTALLATION – FRONT BRAKE ROTOR 1. Install the brake rotor back on the hub and bearing. 2. Install brake caliper and adapter back over brake rotor aligning adapter with mounting holes on steering knuckle. 3. Install the two adapter mounting bolts securing the adapter to the steering knuckle. Tighten the mounting bolts to 169 Nm (125 ft. lbs.) torque. 4. Install wheel and tire assembly on vehicle. Tighten the wheel mounting lug nuts in proper sequence until all nuts are torqued to half specification, then repeat the tightening sequence to the full specified torque of 135 Nm (100 ft. lbs.) . 5. Lower vehicle to the ground.

Special Tools Required Brake caliper piston compressor 07AAE-SEPA101 CAUTION: Frequent inhalation of brake pad dust, regardless of material composition, could be hazardous to your health. Avoid breathing dust particles. Never use an air hose or brush to clean brake assemblies. Use an OSHA- approved vacuum cleaner. Replacement NOTE: Due to the high performance nature of the brake system, the rotors and pads may wear faster. Be sure to inspect the front rotor thickness anytime the front pads are replaced. 1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations. 2. Remove the front wheels.
