REMOVAL 1. Raise vehicle. 2. Disconnect switch wire harness connector. 3. Pry washer lock tabs upward and remove switch attaching nut and tabbed washer. 4. Remove switch adjusting bolt. 5. Slide switch off manual valve shaft. INSTALLATION 1. Disconnect shift linkage rod from shift lever on left side of transmission. 2. Rotate manual shift lever all the way rearward. Then rotate lever forward two detent positions to Neutral. 3. Install switch on manual valve shaft and install switch adjusting bolt finger tight. Do not tighten bolt at this time. 4. Install tabbed washer on manual valve shaft and install switch attaching nut. Tighten nut to 6.9 Nm (61 inch lbs.) torque but do not bend washer lock tabs over nut at this time. 5. Verify that transmission is in Neutral. 6. Rotate switch to align neutral standard line with vertical groove on manual valve shaft. 7. Align switch standard line with groove or flat on manual valve shaft. 8. Tighten switch adjusting bolt to 13 Nm (108 inch lbs.) torque. 9. Bend at least two washer lock tabs over switch attaching nut to secure it. 10. Connect shift linkage rod to shift lever on left side of case. 11. Connect switch wires to harness and lower vehicle. 12. Check switch operation. Engine should start in Park and Neutral only.

Safety function If the sunroof encounters resistance during automatic closing, it is immediately stopped and opened again, as long as the vehicle is stationary. If when the vehicle is being driven the sunroof encounters resistance during automatic closing, because of the higher closing forces involved the protective function cannot be guaranteed, and there is a risk of injury. If the sunroof movement is stiff, e.g. due to frost, turn rotary switch to d and keep it pressed until the sunroof is closed. Turn rotary switch to d and keep it depressed until the sunroof is closed . 5. Turn rotary switch to e and leave there until the sunroof is fully raised. 6. Turn rotary switch to d and keep it depressed until the sunroof is closed . Electrically operated rear window blind 3 Reduces intensity of sunlight shining on to rear seats. Operation w ith ignition switched on. To raise To lower = = Do not operate blind if there are objects lying in front of the rear window. Park/neutral position switch detects the shift lever position and sends signals to the ECM. The ECM receives signals (P, R, N, D, 4, 3, 2 and L) from the park/neutral position switch. When the signal is not sent to the ECM from the park/neutral position switch, the ECM judges that the shift lever is in “D” position. When the shift lever is in the “M” position (with E-shift main switch for “D” and “M” pressed), “M” in the shift position indicator light will come on and when the shift lever is in the “D” position (with E-shift main switch for “D” and “M” released), “D” in the shift position indicator light will come on. When the shift lever is in the “L” position (with E-shift main switch for 2 and “L” pressed), “L” in the shift position indicator light will come on. When the shift lever is in the “2″ position (with E-shift main switch for “2″ and “L” released), “2″ in the shift position indicator light will come on. When the shift lever is in 4 or “M” position, the ECM prohibits shifting to 5th. See Fig. 87 . Possible causes are: Open or short in Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch circuit. Faulty PNP switch. Faulty ECM.

1. Check the engine oil level. Is the level OK? YES- Go to step 2 . NO- Adjust the engine oil to the proper level, then go to step 14 . 2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 3. Clear the DTC with the HDS. 4. Do the VTEC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the result OK? YES- Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) and the ECM/PCM. NO- Go to step 5 . 5. Check the result of step 4 . Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) Failure Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) Open Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) SIG Line Open Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) GND Line Open Is the test result any of the above? YES- Go to step 6 . NO- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch). If it is OK, replace the rocker arm oil control solenoid (VTEC solenoid valve) (see step CMP SENSOR A REPLACEMENT ), then go to 14 . 6. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 7. Disconnect the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) 2P connector. 8. Check for continuity between rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

Removal 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. 2. Remove steering column shroud and lower the steering column. Refer to Steering Column: Service and Repair: Removal/Installation . 3. Disconnect the switch wiring at the multiple plug. 4. Remove the two nuts that retain the switch to the steering column. 5. LIFT the switch VERTICALLY UPWARD to disengage the actuator rod from the switch and remove switch. Installation 1. When installing the ignition switch, both the locking mechanism at the top of the column and the switch itself must be in LOCK position for correct adjustment. To hold the mechanical parts of the column in LOCK position, move the shift lever into PARK (with automatic transmissions) or REVERSE (with manual transmissions), turn the key to LOCK position, and remove the key. New replacement switches, when received, are already pinned in LOCK position by a metal shipping pin inserted in a locking hole on the side of the switch. 2. Engage the actuator rod in the switch. Must be inserted in the slot of the sliding, white carrier. 3. Position the switch on the column and install the retaining nuts, but do not tighten them. 4. Move the switch UP and DOWN along the column to locate the mid-position of rod lash. Tighten the two ignition switch retaining nuts (TOP NUT FIRST to minimize rod binding) to 4.51-7.34 N.m(40-65 in-lb) . 5. Remove the lockpin. Connect the battery cable, and check for proper start in PARK or NEUTRAL. Also, ensure the start circuit cannot be actuated in the DRIVE and REVERSE position and that the engine will shut off in either DRIVE, REVERSE or NEUTRAL. If the engine will not shut off in the above positions then the switch is NOT adjusted properly. The switch will have to be re-adjusted. Refer to Ignition Switch: Adjustments . 6. Raise the steering column into position at instrument panel. Refer to Steering Column: Service and Repair: Removal/Installation . 7. Confirm that accessories are deactivated with ignition switch in OFF position, and that accessories are operable with switch in RUN position.
