Manual locking hubs engage and disengage front wheels from axle shafts on 4WD vehicles. These hubs are are optional. When hubs are engaged in LOCK position, wheels and axle shafts rotate together. When hubs are disengaged or unlocked in FREE position, front wheels free-wheel on hub bearings. REMOVAL & INSTALLATION MANUAL LOCKING HUB Removal 1) Position locking hub in FREE position. Remove cover-to- body retaining bolts. Remove cover assembly and gasket. 2) Remove snap ring from drive axle. Remove body-to-hub retaining bolts. Remove body and gasket. See Fig. 1. CAUTION: Lubricate sliding surfaces with multipurpose grease, but DO NOT pack hub with grease.

DESCRIPTION Locking hubs provide a means of engagement of front wheels on vehicles with front driving axle. When hub is set in a dis- engaged position, front wheels are automatically locked to axle shaft the moment forward torque is applied to front axle. When hub is set in an engaged position, front wheels are lock- ed to axle shafts at all times. IDENTIFICATION All Warn Hubs employ BRASS control knobs to engage and disengage locking mechanism. Model number of hub is stamped into recesses of control knob. Model numbers for Warn Selective Lock-O-Matic hubs are as follows

Removal Of Automatic Locking HubCaution: The brake shoe and brake drum grease is a special type and should not be substituted when it is necessary to change the grease, replace the hub body and brake assembly and/or brake drum 2. Remove axle bolt with washer. 3. Remove hub body. a. Remove the mounting nuts. b. Using a brass bar and hammer, tap on the bolt heads and remove the cone washers. Caution: Do not tap the hub body when removing the cone washer. If the stud bolt is damaged or deformed, replace with a new one. c. Pull off the hub body

Removal (Bronco & F150) 1. Using Torx Bit (T-25), remove 5 bolts from cap assembly. Remove cap assembly. See Fig. 5 . DO NOT drop spring, ball bearing, bearing race or spring retainer. 2. Remove rubber sealing ring and seal bridge retainer. Remove retainer ring by closing ends with needle nose pliers while pulling hub lock from wheel hub. 3. If wheel hub and spindle are to be removed, remove “C” washer from stub shaft groove. Remove splined spacer from axle shaft. Remove wheel bearing lock nuts and lock washer. Removal CAUTION: Do not drop hub components during removal and installation. 1. Separate cap from body assembly by removing the three capscrews, using Torx® bit TX25 or equivalent, from the cap. 2. Remove cap. 3. Remove the lock ring seated in the groove of the front disc brake hub and rotor (1102). 4. Remove the body assembly from the front disc brake hub and rotor. Automatic Locking Hub, Disassembled View, Typical 5. Remove C-washer or snap ring from stub shaft groove. 6. Remove spacers (three thrust washers) from shaft. 7. Remove cam assembly. Pull to remove. 8. If front disc brake hub and rotor and front wheel spindle (3105) are to be removed, refer to Wheel Grease Seal and Bearing, Front Replacement and Repacking in the Disassembly and Assembly portion of this section. Installation 1. Align the fixed cam retaining key on the cam assembly (garter spring inboard) with the keyway on the spindle. Firmly press the cam assembly on the wheel retainer nut. 2. CAUTION: Improper sequence of three-piece thrust washers will result in excessive wear of assembly. Install three-piece thrust washer set (first metal, second plastic, third splined) and retainer lock ring on C-clip. It may be necessary to push the axle outboard from backside of knuckle. Be sure retaining ring is seated in groove properly. 3. CAUTION: Rotate moving cam stop (use any one of three) to the one o’clock position in relationship to the fixed cam retaining key. CAUTION: Do not force body assembly into front disc brake hub on rotor if body assembly will not fit. Recheck alignment of all components. NOTE: The hubs should not be packed with grease. Too much grease will damage the hubs and prevent proper operation. Install body assembly into vehicle front disc brake hub and rotor by lining up the three legs outside the hublock body with the three pockets in the cam assembly. 4. Make sure body assembly is in far enough to see groove in rotor tube. Install large lock ring into groove of hub. Be sure lock ring is correctly seated. 5. Install cap to body assembly. Install three capscrews and tighten to 4-6 Nm (35-53 lb-in).
