The hydraulic pressure from the dual master cylinder is split diagonally between the right front/left rear and left front/right rear wheel brake circuits, providing a balanced braking response should a malfunction occur in a brake line. The proportioning valve function is produced by the Electronic Brake Proportioning System (EBP). EBP dynamically adjusts the application of hydraulic pressure to the rear brakes. Both front and rear brakes are disc type with single piston floating calipers. The front discs are internally ventilated while the rear discs are solid. To ensure better ventilation of the brakes, additional openings for cooling air have been integrated into the bumper. The parking brakes are drum type with the drum located in the hub area of the rear disc. The self adjusting brake mechanism is like the W140 and is located under the passenger compartment second seat row. Component Location 4-ETS/ABS Hydraulic Unit

Traction Systems (ABS, ASR, ETS) and Speed-Sensitive Power Steering (SPS) Model 163 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory 
Preparation for DTC Readout 1. Review section  and , ,  2. Connect Hand-Held Tester (HHT) to data link connector (X11/4) according to connection diagram (see section 0). 3. Ignition: ON 4. Read out DTC memory for the ETS, ME-SFI and ETC control modules. 5. Perform nominal/actual values comparison. 6. Perform activations. 7. Follow-up and repair all displayed DTCs. 8. After successful repairs, erase all DTCs. Note: DTC readout is no longer possible using the impulse counter scan tool.
