For 1993, the manufacturer recommends the belt be replaced every 60,000 miles. For 1994-98, the
manufacturer recommends the belt be replaced every 105,000 miles. Installation 1. Ensure cylinder No. 1 is at TDC of compression stroke. See Fig. 2 . Install tensioner and return spring if removed. If return spring stud was removed, apply thread lock sealant to threads before installing stud. Insert an Allen wrench into hole in tensioner, turn tensioner fully clockwise, and temporarily tighten lock
nut. 2. Install timing belt with arrow on timing belt facing front of engine. Align White lines on timing belt with marks on camshaft sprockets and crankshaft sprocket. White lines ensure correct number of teeth exist between timing marks on sprockets. 3. Loosen tensioner lock nut. Using Allen wrench, rotate tensioner by turning Allen wrench clockwise 70- 80 degrees. Temporarily tighten lock nut. Rotate crankshaft clockwise at least 2 revolutions. 4. Return cylinder No. 1 to TDC of compression stroke. Using Push/Pull Gauge (J-38387) or equivalent, apply 22 lbs. (10.0 kg) pressure to timing belt between right camshaft sprocket and tensioner. Hold tensioner in position with Allen wrench, and loosen tensioner lock nut.

Check horn fuse 6 in the Power Distribution Center and fuse 7 in the Junction Block. If fuse is blown refer to FUSE BLOWN. If fuse is OK, refer to FUSE OK. Fuse Blown 1. Verify condition of battery terminals and voltage, refer to Battery If battery connections and battery charge is OK proceed to Step 2. . Using a voltmeter, test for battery voltage at both sides of horn fuse 7. If voltage is
OK, on both sides of fuse, proceed to Fuse OK. If voltage is OK, on one side of fuse, the fuse is blown, proceed to Step 3. 3. Using a suitable ammeter in place of the fuse, test amperage draw of the horn circuit. If amperage draw is greater than 20 amps without the horn switch depressed, a grounded circuit exists between the fuse and the horn relay Proceed to Step 4. If amperage draw is greater than 20 amps with the horn switch depressed, a grounded circuit exists between the horn relay and the horn. Proceed to step Step 5. 4. Remove the horn relay from the Junction Block. If the amperage draw drops to 0 amps , the horn switch or circuit is shorted. If the amperage draw does not drop to 0 amps , repair short at the Junction Block.

ISSUE SERVICE TIP
This TSB article is a diagnostic procedure to address vehicles that exhibit lean driveability MASS AIR FLOW (MAF) DISCUSSION symptoms and may or may not have any Diagnostic MAF sensors can get contaminated from a variety Trouble Codes (DTCs) stored in memory. of sources: dirt, oil, silicon, spider webs, potting
compound from the sensor itself, etc. When a MAF sensor gets contaminated, it skews the transfer Follow the diagnostic procedures described in the function such that the sensor over-estimates air flow following Service Tip. The revised diagnostic at idle (causes the fuel system to go rich) and procedure is a more accurate means of diagnosing under-estimates air flow at high air flows (causes
the symptoms. fuel system to go lean). This means Long Term Fuel Trims will learn lean (negative) corrections at idle and learn rich (positive) corrections at higher air flows.
