SYMPTOM *The transmission shifts harshly, or it may stay in first gear. The harsh shifting is more noticeable on the 1-2 and 2-3 upshifts under light throttle. It is not affected by operating temperature. The MIL may be on with DTC P0730 or P0715 stored.* PROBABLE CAUSE *Contamination of the linear solenoid and its associated passages inside the transmission, or a broken spring internal to the transmission.* *Flush the transmission with Genuine Honda ATF-Z1, then replace the linear solenoid. SYMPTOM The vehicle may have one or more of these symptoms: • Idle fluctuates between 500 and 1,500 RPM (The fluctuation is more pronounced before the engine reaches normal operating temperature.) • Shudder or judder when accelerating from a stop or just before stopping • Surging at highway speeds between 2,000 and 3,000 RPM • Excessive shock when the engine is cold and you start to accelerate • A “coo” sound, lasting about 5 to 10 seconds, after coming to a stop PROBABLE CAUSE The problem may have one or more of these causes: • TCM control unit programming is too sensitive. • The start clutch assembly is worn. • The start clutch control valve is contaminated. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the start clutch assembly, the start clutch control valve, and the TCM.REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: Make sure the work surface and the CVT are completely clean. Use lint-free towels, and use a dedicated, clean solvent tank for cleaning the CVT parts. If you do not keep everything very clean, the repair may not be successful. 1. Soak the new start clutch assembly in Honda ATF-Z1 for at least 30 minutes. NEW START CLUTCH ASSEMBLY 2. Remove the transmission from the vehicle. See page 14-304 of the 1996–00 Civic Service Manual. 3. Cover with clean shop towels all of the openings in the transmission and anything else that might get damaged by water and cleaning chemicals (axle openings, breather, and electrical connectors). Clean all the dirt and grease off of the transmission before you start disassembly.

SYMPTOM The key will not go into the door lock cylinder, or if it goes in, it will not turn. PROBABLE CAUSE The door lock tumblers are damaged or worn. CORRECTIVE ACTION Remove the door lock cylinder, and replace the inner cylinder, springs, and tumblers. PARTS INFORMATION Door Lock Cylinder Kit: P/N 06720-S5A-305, H/C 7604499 (Kit contains eight door inner cylinders, two tailgate inner cylinders, and associated parts.) REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. Obtain the customer‘s key code from the iN (Key Code Inquiry). Refer to the Honda High Security Key Codes book that comes with the Matrix H key cutting machine. Write down the applicable cutting code for the key code number. Make sure the corrections to the code book listed in Service Bulletin 01-077, Cutting Sidewinder-Type Keys With the Matrix H Key Cutting Machine, have been made. 2. Use the chart below to write down the numbers found in the key code book. H J G F A X E D — — 3. Remove the door panel. Refer to the appropriate service manual or use ISIS keyword Door Panel. 4. Remove the plastic cover as necessary. 5. Raise the window glass fully. 6. Remove the lock cylinder. • For Civic, go to step 7. • For CR-V, go to step 8. • For Element, go to step 11. 7. Pull down on the retainer clip with a hook-shaped tool. Remove the lock cylinder and disconnect the cylinder rod. Then go to step 14.
