Customer Concern: Tests/Procedures: Potential Causes: Tech Tips: Just did a tune up and cleaned the throttle body and now the idle is hunting up and down. 1. Perform the Accelerator Pedal Released Position Learning procedure. 2. Perform the Throttle Valve Closed Position Learning procedure. 3. Perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure described in the Identifix article listed for this vehicle. It may be necessary to follow TSB# NTB05-067 and disconnect one or more fuel injectors as necessary to bring the RPM down and then perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure. 4. If the idle will not relearn, it may be necessary to bring the vehicle to the dealer to have the factory scan tool, try going through the relearn procedures. 5. If the problem still occurs, the vehicle may require throttle body replacement. Idle Relearn Procedure Engine speed at 200 RPM or more over the target idle speed will set this code. There is a TSB (TSB# NTB05-067) concerning this code that refers to disconnecting one or more fuel injectors to bring the RPM down and perform the Idle Air Volume Learning procedure. It often takes disconnecting two injectors to bring the engine RPM low enough for the idle relearn to work. The idle will not relearn if the engine speed is too high. During the relearn procedure, idle relearning actually begins when the engine is started. The TSB refers to using the factory Consult scan tool, but the manual procedure does work if the procedure is followed EXACTLY. The engine and automatic transmission (if equipped) needs to be warmed up too – follow the preparation instructions.

Typically, the throttle plate angle parameter is 12-20% at time of condition with vehicle speed of approximately 24-40 km/h (15-25 mph). The customer may describe the condition as slip or delayed shift into second. Correction Replace the complete second clutch assembly with service kit, P/N 24240561. Refer to the GM Unit Repair Service Manual for the year and model of the vehicle being serviced for the 2nd Clutch service procedure. This service kit contains: Second Clutch Housing Fluid Seal Rings (613), a Second Clutch Assembly (617), a Case Cover (Channel Plate) Upper Gasket (430), and a Case Cover (Channel Plate) Lower Gasket (429). In addition to the content of this service kit, other gaskets not included in this service kit will also be needed to complete the repair – a Case Cover Lower Gasket (429), and a Case Cover Upper Gasket (430). These gaskets can be obtained by ordering gasket kit 24206391. Be sure to use ONLY the Second Clutch Assembly and Second Clutch Housing Fluid Seal Rings provided in this service kit. DISCARD the Second Clutch Assembly and Second Clutch Housing Fluid Seal Rings removed from the transmission being serviced. Disassemble ONLY the Oil Pump Assembly from the Case Cover (Complete). DO NOT disassemble the Control Valve Body from the Case Cover. Remove ONLY the Case Cover-to-Case bolts to remove the Case Cover and Valve Body from Transmission Case AS AN ASSEMBLY . To access all Case Cover-to-Case bolts, it is necessary to remove the Pressure Control Solenoid Valve Assembly (322), and 1-2 & 3-4 Shift Solenoid Valve

SERVICE PROCEDURE 1. Set the parking brake. 2. Connect C-III to the vehicle. 3. Use C-III to check for Air Bag DTCs. a. Navigate C-III to Air Bag Direct Diagnostic Mode. b. Make sure to check both SELF DIAG RESULTS and SELF-DIAG [PAST]. • SELF-DIAG [PAST] is under Special function. • If there are any DTCs stored for AIR BAG other than B1033, B1034 and/or B1035, perform repairs as needed, and then erase DTC before continuing with this procedure. • Diagnosis and repair for DTCs other than B1033, B1034, and/or B1035 is not covered by this bulletin. NOTE: All DTCs (except B1033, B1034, and B1035) must be repaired and erased before continuing with this procedure. 4. Disconnect C-III from the vehicle. 5. Start the engine and let it idle for about 5 seconds. 6. Turn the ignition OFF. 7. WARNING: Prep the vehicle for Crash Zone Sensor replacement as follows: The following are VERY IMPORTANT to prevent unexpected air bag deployment. • Remove the ignition key / Intelligent Key from the cabin of the vehicle and set aside, away from the vehicle (this will prevent accidentally turning the ignition ON). • Make sure the ignition remains OFF until after the new sensor is completely installed. • Make sure no one is in the vehicle cabin and no one enters the vehicle cabin until after the sensor is completely installed. • Wait for all control units to “power down” (at least 1 minute) before continuing. 8. Locate the Crash Zone Sensor (see Figure 2). Crash Zone Sensor Cover 9. Remove the 2 Crash Zone Sensor nuts shown in Figure 3. • Discard these nuts. They will not be reused. 10. Remove the Crash Zone Sensor Cover. 11. Disconnect the electrical connector shown in Figure 4.

Removal/refitting requires: Engine removal. NOTE: Refer to Technical Data module for tightening torques. Sump removal. Align coloured chain links with timing mark on each sprocket , ,  &  . NOTE: Timing chain marks on injection pump sprocket maybe difficult to see. Remove: Upper timing chain and tensioner. Lower timing chain tensioner. Injection pump sprocket and timing chain. Refit: Ensure crankshaft sprocket keyway at 12 o’clock position  . Install injection pump sprocket and timing chain. Insert injection pump sprocket locking tool  . Tool No.KV11106030. Align blue or silver coloured chain link with injection pump sprocket timing mark  . Align yellow coloured chain link with crankshaft sprocket timing mark  . Align blue or silver coloured chain links with timing mark on each camshaft sprocket  . Align yellow coloured chain link with injection pump sprocket timing mark  . Reset timing chain tensioners: Push plungers into tensioner housings and lock with retaining clips. Refit timing chain tensioners. Remove retaining clips.
