Drive Belt, Serpentine NOTE: Minor cracks in the V-grooved portion of the serpentine drive belt are considered normal and acceptable. If the drive belt (8620) has chunks missing from the ribs, the drive belt should be replaced. NOTE: When installing drive belts on pulley, make sure that all V-grooves make proper contact with pulleys. Conditions requiring drive belt replacement are excessive wear, rib chunkout, severe glazing, frayed cords, etc. Replace any drive belt that exhibits any of these conditions. Removal 1. WARNING: USE CAUTION WHEN REMOVING OR INSTALLING DRIVE BELT TO MAKE SURE THAT TOOL DOES NOT SLIP. Using a 15 mm socket or wrench on bolt, attach drive belt tensioner pulley. Rotate drive belt tensioner (6B209) clockwise to remove drive belt from pulleys. Pulley Routing, Accessory Drive Belt — 3.8L Engine Installation 1. Install drive belt over all pulleys (except drive belt tensioner). 2. Rotate drive belt tensioner as described under Removal to install drive belt over drive belt tensioner pulley. Make sure that all V-grooves make proper contact with pulleys.

To ensure maximum drive belt life and proper component operation, replacement drive belts (8620) must be the same type and size as the original drive belts . When installing a new drive belt , ensure that it is properly seated on the pulleys. NOTE: Mark the direction of rotation on the drive belt with a marking pen to ensure correct installation if the drive belt is to be reused. Failure to do so may result in drive belt noise. Drive Belt, A/C Compressor Removal 1. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt. 2. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley adjustment bolt. 3. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt from the A/C compressor clutch pulley (2E884) , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley and the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Installation 1. Inspect the pulleys for warping or abnormal wear. Replace any damaged pulley. To replace the A/C compressor clutch pulley , refer to Section 12-03B. To replace crankshaft pulley , refer to Section 03-01. 2. Install the A/C compressor drive belt on the A/C compressor clutch pulley , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley, and crankshaft pulley . 3. Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt tension. Refer to the procedure in this section. 4. Tighten the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt securely. Drive Belt, Generator Removal 1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Remove the RH engine and transmission splash shield (6775) . 3. Loosen the inner and outer generator-to-generator regulator mounting bracket bolts. 4. Loosen the generator locking bolt.

Removal Procedure 1. Remove the spark plugs in order to ease crankshaft engine rotation. 2. Remove the engine front cover. 3. Remove the right bank secondary camshaft drive chain tensioner. 4. Remove the right bank secondary camshaft drive chain shoe. 5. Remove the right bank secondary camshaft drive chain guide. 6. Remove the right bank secondary camshaft drive chain. 7. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain tensioner. 8. Remove the primary upper camshaft drive chain guide. 9. Remove the primary camshaft drive chain. 10. Remove the right bank camshaft intermediate drive chain idler. 11. Remove the left bank secondary camshaft drive chain tensioner. 12. Remove the left bank secondary camshaft drive chain shoe. 13. Remove the left bank secondary camshaft drive chain guide. 14. Remove the left bank camshaft intermediate drive chain idler. 15. Remove the left bank secondary camshaft drive chain. 16. Clean and inspect all of the camshaft timing drive components. Replace components as necessary. Installation Procedure

The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.0L 6cylinder engine is bolted to the top of the oil pump drive shaft assembly. The sensor and drive shaft assembly is located on the right side of the engine near the oil filter. The rotational position of oil pump drive determines fuel synchronization only. It does not determine ignition timing. WARNING Do NOT attempt to rotate the oil pump drive to modify ignition timing. 1. Two different procedures are used for Removal & Installation. The first procedure will detail Removal & Installation of the sensor only. The second procedure will detail Removal & Installation of the sensor and oil pump drive shaft assembly. The second procedure is to be used if the engine has been disassembled. 2. An internal oil seal is used in the drive shaft housing that prevents engine oil at the bottom of the sensor. The seal is not serviceable. Sensor Only 1. Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor. 2. Remove 2 sensor mounting bolts. 3. Remove sensor from oil pump drive. Oil Pump Drive & Sensor WARNING If the CMP and oil pump drive are to be removed and installed, do NOT allow engine crankshaft or camshaft to rotate. CMP sensor relationship will be lost. Disconnect electrical connector at CMP sensor. Remove 2 sensor mounting bolts Remove sensor from oil pump drive. Before proceeding to next step, mark and note rotational position of oil pump drive in relationship to engine block. After installation:, the CMP sensor should face rear of engine 0. 5. Remove hold-down bolt and clamp. 6. While pulling assembly from engine, note direction and position of pulse ring. After Removal & Installation, look down into top of oil pump and note direction and position of slot at top of oil pump gear. 7. Remove and discard old oil pump drive-to-engine block gasket. 1. 2. 3. 4. Sensor Only The Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) on the 4.0L 6cylinder engine is bolted to the top of the oil pump drive shaft assembly. The sensor and drive shaft assembly is located on the right side of the engine near the oil filter. 1. Install sensor to oil pump drive. 2. Install 2 sensor mounting bolts and tighten to 2 Nm (15 inch lbs.) torque. 3. Connect electrical connector to CMP sensor. Oil Pump Drive & Sensor 1. Clean oil pump drive mounting hole area of engine block. 2. Install new oil pump drive-to-engine block gasket.
