Window Regulator, Power Front Door—Town Car Removal 1. CAUTION: When servicing front door power window regulator minus motor (23208), regulator cable tension must not be altered. Cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature front door power window regulator failure or erratic operation. CAUTION: Be careful not to drill through the window regulator behind inner door panel. Additional repairs may be necessary. If front door window glass (21410) is in the down position and is inoperable, a through f must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, proceed to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04). Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01. c. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass. Remove three 1/4 inch rivets retaining window regulator electric drive (23394) to inner panel. d. Working through front access hole in inner panel, remove three screws from window regulator electric drive. e. Separate window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor. Raise front door window glass by hand and secure using tape. f. Proceed to Step 2. 2. Remove front door window glass as outlined. 3. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wiring connector. 4. Remove two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 5. NOTE: Use care not to enlarge sheet metal holes in the door inner panel. Remove two 1/4-inch rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to inner door panel. 6. Remove front door power window regulator minus motor from front door (20124). Installation 1. Lubricate front door power window regulator minus motor with Teflon® Lubricant E7FZ-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C111-A as outlined. 2. Install front door power window regulator minus motor into access hole in inner panel. 3. Position front door power window regulator minus motor using upper front door power window regulator studs and tabs on window regulator electric drive mounting bracket. 4. Install rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to door inner panel (1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw and 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies or equivalent metric fasteners may be used as alternates). 5. Install two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 6. Install Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 7. Adjust Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 8. Install front door trim shield and front door trim panel. Refer to Section 01-05. Front Door—Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Removal 1. If front door window glass is in the down position and is inoperable, the following steps must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, go to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield. Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01. c. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wires. d. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass because it could break. Remove window regulator electric drive retaining screws through holes. e. Remove window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor.

SUBJECT: MODELS: Loss of Power Steering Assist – Replace Electric Power Steering Motor 2005-2010 Chevrolet Cobalt 2005 Pontiac Pursuit 2005-2006 Pontiac G4 2006 Pontiac G5 Pursuit 2007-2010 Pontiac G5 Equipped with Electric Power Steering 2005-2010 model year Chevrolet Cobalt vehicles; 2005 model year Pontiac Pursuit; 2005-2006 model year Pontiac G4; 2006 model year Pontiac G5 Pursuit; and 2007-2010 model year Pontiac G5 vehicles equipped with electric power steering. Some of these vehicles have a condition in which a sudden loss of power steering assist could occur at any time while driving the vehicle. If the power steering assist is lost, a chime will sound and a “Power Steering” message will be displayed in the Driver Information Center to inform the driver of the condition. Steering control will be maintained, as the vehicle defaults to a manual steering mode. If power steering assist is lost, it may require greater driver effort at low vehicle speeds, for example, below 15 mph (25 km/h). Unless a driver compensates for this additional effort, it may increase the risk of a crash. Typically, the next time the vehicle is started, the power steering assist will return and the “Power Steering” message will no longer be displayed. EPS Motor Replacement Procedure Note: The use of Loctite is no longer required. Loctite should not be used for any further applications. 1. Connect the Tech 2® to the vehicle and check for diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). 2. Record any present DTCs on the repair order and during claim submission. 3. Clear any DTCs that are present. 4. Remove the power steering assist motor. Refer to Power Steering Assist Motor Replacement in SI. Note: For 2005 model year vehicles only: Do NOT install the o-ring between the motor assembly and the steering column assembly. The new service motor kit will include an o- ring, but DO NOT install the o-ring for 2005 model year vehicles only. 5. Install the new power steering assist motor. Refer to Power Steering Assist Motor Replacement in SI. 6. Perform Test Drive.

Power Steering Warning Message on DIC with DTCs C0176 and C0476 This condition is often the result of excessive lock-to-lock turns of the steering wheel, causing the thermal protection in the Power Steering Control Module (PSCM) to take the steering motor temporarily off line. This is a normal operating characteristic of the system. DO NOT replace the steering column for this condition. Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 06-02-32-002B for additional information

Inspect power window circuit breaker (25-amp), located in left kick panel. Inspect fuse No. 28 (40-amp) in Intelligent Power Module (IPM). IPM is located on left side of engine compartment. Inspect ground at right “B” pillar. SYSTEM TESTS ALL WINDOWS INOPERATIVE 1. Check power window system circuit breaker and fuse. See TROUBLE SHOOTING . Replace components as necessary. If components are okay, go to next step. 2. Remove driver’s power window switch. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn ignition on. Using test light, connect ground lead to harness connector terminal No. 13 (Black/Brown wire). Check for voltage by touching test light probe to harness connector terminals No. 9, 11 and 14 (all White/Pink wires). 3. If test light does not illuminate, check power and ground circuits. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If test light illuminates, ground circuit and power circuit between battery and switch are okay. Check switch and motor. See POWER WINDOW SWITCH and POWER WINDOW MOTOR under COMPONENT TESTS. COMPONENT TESTS VENT WINDOW MOTOR 1. Remove “D” pillar trim panel. See “D” PILLAR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. 2. Disconnect power vent window motor wire connector from body harness. 3. Using 2 jumper wires, connect one to a battery (+) source and the other to a good ground (-). 4. Connect the negative (-) jumper probe to one of the motor connector terminals. 5. Momentarily touch the positive (+) jumper probe to the other motor connector terminal. When the positive probe is connected, the motor should rotate in one direction to either move window open of closed. If window is all the way open or closed the motor will grunt and the crank system will flex when actuated in the one direction. Reverse jumper probes at the motor connector terminals and window should now move in the opposite position to verify full operation. If motor grunts and does not move with the motor connected in both directions, verify that crank system is not binding. POWER WINDOW MOTOR 1. Remove door trim panel and sound pad. See DOOR TRIM PANEL under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. 2. Disconnect power window motor wire connector from door harness. 3. Using 2 jumper wires, connect one to a battery (+) source and the other to a good ground (-). 4. Connect the negative (-) jumper probe to one of the motor connector terminals.

XJ8, XJR, XK8 & XKR The door windows are controlled by Driver Door Control Module (DDCM) with input from switches located on driver door armrests. When passenger windows are operated from driver door switches, the DDCM transmits a Standard Corporate Protocol (SCP) message to selected door control module. Pressing a passenger window switch inputs directly to selected door control module. Pressing rear portion of window switch will lower window, while pressing front of switch will raise window. One-touch open is a feature of the power window system. If a window switch is pressed for 50-250 milliseconds, the window will open fully. If switch is held longer than 250 milliseconds, window will stop at position it is in when switch is released. To protect power window motors, a thermal cut-out (circuit breaker) operates if system is overloaded. If circuit breaker is overheated, it will require about 5 seconds to reset before system will operate again. Window switch must be released to enable circuit breaker to reset. On XK8 convertible models, door windows will lower 0.47″ (12 mm) when door opens or top is lowered, and will raise fully when door is closed and top is raised and latched. Rear quarter windows will lower completely when top is lowered, and will not be allowed to raise until top is raised.
