Window Regulator, Power Front Door—Town Car Removal 1. CAUTION: When servicing front door power window regulator minus motor (23208), regulator cable tension must not be altered. Cable tension is preset at production. Improper adjustment may result in premature front door power window regulator failure or erratic operation. CAUTION: Be careful not to drill through the window regulator behind inner door panel. Additional repairs may be necessary. If front door window glass (21410) is in the down position and is inoperable, a through f must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, proceed to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel (23942) and front door trim shield (237A04). Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable (14301). Refer to Section 14-01. c. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass. Remove three 1/4 inch rivets retaining window regulator electric drive (23394) to inner panel. d. Working through front access hole in inner panel, remove three screws from window regulator electric drive. e. Separate window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor. Raise front door window glass by hand and secure using tape. f. Proceed to Step 2. 2. Remove front door window glass as outlined. 3. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wiring connector. 4. Remove two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 5. NOTE: Use care not to enlarge sheet metal holes in the door inner panel. Remove two 1/4-inch rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to inner door panel. 6. Remove front door power window regulator minus motor from front door (20124). Installation 1. Lubricate front door power window regulator minus motor with Teflon® Lubricant E7FZ-19590-A or equivalent meeting Ford specification ESB-M1C111-A as outlined. 2. Install front door power window regulator minus motor into access hole in inner panel. 3. Position front door power window regulator minus motor using upper front door power window regulator studs and tabs on window regulator electric drive mounting bracket. 4. Install rivets retaining front door power window regulator minus motor to door inner panel (1/4-20 x 1/2 inch screw and 1/4-20 nut and washer assemblies or equivalent metric fasteners may be used as alternates). 5. Install two upper front door power window regulator retaining nuts. 6. Install Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 7. Adjust Front Door Window Glass as outlined. 8. Install front door trim shield and front door trim panel. Refer to Section 01-05. Front Door—Crown Victoria, Grand Marquis Removal 1. If front door window glass is in the down position and is inoperable, the following steps must be taken; if front door window glass is operational, go to Step 2. a. Remove front door trim panel and front door trim shield. Refer to Section 01-05. b. Disconnect battery ground cable. Refer to Section 14-01. c. Disconnect window regulator electric drive wires. d. CAUTION: Be careful not to strike or scratch front door window glass because it could break. Remove window regulator electric drive retaining screws through holes. e. Remove window regulator electric drive from front door power window regulator minus motor.

Coupe and sedan front doors use a cross arm regulator. The following procedures are required for removal and replacement of both power and manual window regulators. Remove or Disconnect 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Door window. Electrical connector, if equipped. Nut. Rivets. Bolts/screws. Regulator. Install or Connect 1. Position regulator by inserting bottom through access opening, then rotate top through opening while lowering the regulator to clear the top of the access opening and align with holes in door inner panel. 2. Upper right base plate bolt/screw, followed by lower base plate bolt/screw. Tighten ^ Bolts/screws to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.). 3. Upper left rivet, followed by lower right rivet. 4. Cam arm bolt/screw. Tighten ^ Bolt/screw to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.). 5. Cam nut. Tighten ^ Nut to 10 N.m (89 lb. in.). 6. Electrical connector, if equipped. 7. Door window.

A design change was made to the front door side window regulator assembly installed on vehicles built after and including VIN SZ148736. Since the 2nd design regulator installs differently, the inner door panel has also been revised. This article describes the installation procedure to install a new 2nd design regulator into a 1st design door. 1. Remove inner and outer door trim panels. 2. Lower door glass. Remove front side door window regulator nuts with tool SA9148B. Push glass up and rotate slightly. Remove door glass. 3. On vehicles equipped with a power front side door window regulator, disconnect electrical harness connector. 4. Remove front side door window regulator assembly cam bolts. Drill out rivets and remove front side door window regulator assembly. 5. Place inner panel cam (rear of new front side door window regulator assembly) into opening in inner door panel, before riveting front side door window regulator assembly into place. 6. Position front side door window regulator assembly backplate to inner door panel and install rivets.

1. Remove the trim panel. 2. Remove the water deflector. 3. Raise the window far enough in order to gain access through the door inner panel to the window to regulator bolts (2). 4. Remove the window to regulator bolts. 5. Raise the window to the full up position. 6. Tape the window in the full up position. 7. Disconnect the electrical connector. 8. Remove the regulator mounting bolts (1,2,3,4). 9. Remove the regulator from the door. INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Install the regulator to the door. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. IMPORTANT: In order to ensure proper orientation of the window regulator to the door, tighten the window regulator bolts in the specified sequence (1,2,3,4). 2. Install the regulator mounting bolts. Tighten Tighten the window regulator bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). 3. Install the electrical connector. 4. Remove the tape. 5. Lower the window far enough in order to gain access through the door inner panel for the bolts. 6. Install the window to regulator bolts (2). Tighten Tighten the window to regulator bolts to 10 N.m (89 lb in). 7. Install the water deflector. 8. Install the trim panel.

NOTE: To avoid damage to window or paintwork 3 Unscrew bolts (A) at hinges Screw for side window hinge to C pillar = 12 Nm 4 Pull back cover at opening mechanism Pull back cover at opening mechanism NOTE: For access to connecting point at opening mechanism. 5 Remove window NOTE: Caution: Do not damage window and paint if adhesive tape or support is removed Extend window toward top (B). Check seal. If necessary, replace seal of side window. 6 Install in the reverse order
