Remove or Disconnect 1. Battery ground (negative) cable. 2. Front floor console (Buick only). 3. Instrument panel trim plate. 4. Heater A/C control mounting screws. 5. Heater A/C Control. 6. Electrical connectors. Install or Connect 1. Electrical connectors. 2. Heater A/C control. 3. Heater A/C control mounting screws. Tighten Screws to 2 N.m (18 lb. in.). 4. Instrument panel trim plate. 5. Front floor console (Buick only). 6. Battery ground (negative) cable.

12. REMOVE A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY Remove the 2 screws and pull out the A/C control assembly, then disconnect the connector. NOTE: Be careful not to vent the mode control cable, when pull out the A/C control assembly. INSTALLATION 1. INSTALL A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY a. Connect the connector. b. Pass the heater control cables as shown in the illustration. COMPONENTS REMOVAL 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIMS REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATES REMOVE LOWER FINISH PANEL REMOVE LOWER INSERT PANEL REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL REMOVE HEATER TO RESISTOR NO.2 DUCT REMOVE LOWER PANEL REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX REMOVE SHIFTING HOLE BEZEL REMOVE FINISH LOWER CENTER PANEL 11. DISCONNECT HEATER CONTROL CABLE c. Install the 2 set screws. 2. CONNECT HEATER CONTROL CABLES a. Set Air inlet control lever at “RECIRC” position b. Set Temperature control dial at “MAX. COOL” position c. Set Mode control dial at “DEF” position Zoom d. Adjust air inlet control cable. Set air inlet damper control lever to “RECIRC” position and connect the inner cable to lever pin and clamp the outer cable. HINT: Lock the clamp while lightly pushing the outer cable to the direction shown by arrow in the illustration. Sized for Print Zoom e. Adjust air mix control cable. Set air mix damper control lever to “MAX. COOL” position and connect the inner cable to lever pin and clamp the outer cable. HINT: Lock the clamp while lightly pulling the outer cable to the direction shown by arrow in the illustration. Sized for Print

The heater-A/C housing assembly must be removed from the vehicle and disassembled for service access of the blower motor, blower motor wheel, heater core, evaporator coil, blend-air door, and each of the various mode control doors. WARNING: ON VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH AIRBAGS, FAILURE TO TAKE THE PROPER PRECAUTIONS COULD RESULT IN ACCIDENTAL AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND POSSIBLE PERSONAL INJURY . REMOVAL 1. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable. 2. Remove the instrument panel from the vehicle. Refer to: “Body and Frame : Interior Moulding/Trim : Dashboard/Instrument Panel : Service and Repair” See: Body and Frame\Interior Moulding / Trim\Dashboard / Instrument Panel\Service and Repair 3. If the vehicle is not equipped with air conditioning, go to Step 6. If the vehicle is equipped with air conditioning, recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to: “Heating and Air Conditioning : Service and Repair” See: Service and Repair 4. Disconnect the liquid line refrigerant line fitting from the evaporator inlet tube. 5. Disconnect the accumulator inlet tube refrigerant line fitting from the evaporator outlet tube. Install plugs in, or tape over all of the opened refrigerant line fittings. 6. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to: “Engine, Cooling and Exhaust : Cooling System : Service and Repair” See: Engine, Cooling and Exhaust\Cooling System\Service and Repair 7. Disconnect the heater hoses from the heater core tubes. Install plugs in, or tape over the opened heater core tubes. 8. Remove the four nuts from the heater-A/C housing mounting studs on the engine compartment side of the dash panel. 9. Remove the nut that secures the heater-A/C housing mounting brace to the stud on the passenger compartment side of the dash panel. 10. Pull the heater-A/C housing rearward far enough for the mounting studs and the evaporator condensate drain tube to clear the dash panel holes. 11. Remove the heater-A/C housing from the vehicle. DISASSEMBLY 1. Place the heater-A/C housing on a work bench, with the heater-A/C housing cover facing down. 2. Remove the two screws that secure the heater-A/C housing cover to the top of the blower motor housing cover. 3. If the vehicle is so equipped, unplug the two vacuum harness connectors from the recirculation air door actuator. 4. Unplug the vacuum harness connector from the panel-defrost door actuator. 5. Remove the four screws that secure the floor duct to the bottom of the heater-A/C housing and remove the duct from the housing.

REMOVAL 1. Disconnect the battery ground cable. 2. Drain the radiator. 3. Remove the auxiliary coolant pump. 4. Disconnect the connector located at the end of the coolant valve harness pigtail. 5. Disconnect the three quick-disconnect couplings from the coolant control valve hoses. NOTE: – The top heater hose has a green identifying mark to match the hose on the dual coolant flow valve. If mark is not visible, identify the hoses for location. This will aid in the correct installation of the hose assemblies. – Hose assemblies shown with components removed for clarity. 6. Raise the vehicle. 7. Remove the coolant valve assembly mounting bolt and the nut. 8. Raise the valve and disconnect the coolant supply and return lines.

1. Partially drain the cooling system. 2. Disconnect the heater water hoses at the dash panel. 3. Remove the instrument panel. Refer to: Body and Frame, Interior Trim, Dashboard/Instrument Panel, Service and Repair, Instrument Panel – Replacement, See: Body and Frame/Interior Moulding / Trim/Dashboard / Instrument Panel/Service and Repair/Instrument Panel – Replacement 4. Disconnect the function control and A/C temperature cables from the cams and retaining clips. 5. Remove the necessary defroster duct screws. 6. Loosen the capscrew that secures the A/C evaporator outlet duct clamp. 7. Remove the three heater nuts. 8. Disconnect the antenna lead from the retaining clip. 9. Remove the heater from the car. INSTALLATION NOTE: If installing a new heater, save the heater control locator pins for mode selector and temperature control cable adjustment.
