1. NOTE: To prevent cable damage, do not apply force to the transmission shift cable assembly between the steering column shift tube bracket and the steering column bracket. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column. 1. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column shift tube lever. 2. Carefully lift the locking tab and disconnect the transmission shift cable from the steering column bracket. 2. Disconnect the cable push pin from the stud in the bulkhead. 3. Push the rubber grommet and transmission shift cable through the bulkhead. 4. Raise and support the vehicle. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 4R100 transmission 5. NOTE: To prevent shift cable assembly damage, do not apply force to the transmission shift cable between the manual control lever and the transmission shift cable bracket. Remove the transmission shift cable from the transmission. 1. Disconnect the transmission shift cable from the manual control lever. 2. Depress the lock tabs to release the transmission shift cable and disconnect the transmission shift cable from the transmission shift cable bracket. 6. Remove the shift cable bracket from the transmission. 1. Remove the bolts. 2. Remove the shift cable bracket. 7. To install, reverse the removal procedure. Adjust the shift cable. 1. NOTE: Make sure the parking brake control is fully released. Relieve the tension on the parking brake system. 1. Pull the front parking brake cable and conduit. 2. Insert a suitable retainer. 2. CAUTION: Do not use heat to loosen a seized lug nut (1012). Heat can damage the wheel and the wheel bearings. Remove the rear wheels and tires; loosen the lug nuts. 1. Remove the center cap. 2. With the weight of the vehicle on the wheels, loosen, but do not remove, the lug nuts. 3. WARNING: THE ELECTRICAL POWER TO THE AIR SUSPENSION SYSTEM MUST BE SHUT OFF PRIOR TO HOISTING, JACKING OR TOWING AN AIR SUSPENSION VEHICLE. THIS CAN BE ACCOMPLISHED BY TURNING OFF THE AIR SUSPENSION SWITCH LOCATED IN REAR JACK STORAGE AREA. FAILURE TO DO SO MAY RESULT IN UNEXPECTED INFLATION OR DEFLATION OF THE AIR SPRINGS WHICH MAY RESULT IN SHIFTING OF THE VEHICLE DURING THESE OPERATIONS. Raise and support the vehicle; refer to Section 100-02 . 4. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. 1. Remove the lug nuts. 2. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. 5. Disconnect the (A) parking brake intermediate cable from the (B) parking brake rear cable and conduit, LH. 6. Separate the (A) RH parking brake rear cable and conduit from the (B) LH parking brake rear cable and conduit at the (C) parking brake cable equalizer. 7. Remove the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit from the parking brake cable bracket (2530). 1. Compress the parking brake cable clip. 2. Remove the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit from the parking brake cable bracket. 8. Remove the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit to LH parking brake rear cable and conduit clip. 9. Remove the (A) RH parking brake rear cable and conduit from the (B) rear parking brake cable retainer (2A709). 10. Remove the RH parking brake rear cable and conduit to the RH hydraulic brake line clip. 11. Remove the parking brake cable retainer clip (2A826). 1. Remove the parking brake cable retainer clip bolt. 2. Remove the parking brake cable retainer clip. 12. Unclip the parking brake rear cable and conduit from the brake line clip on top of the rear axle housing.

1. Using suitable size allen wrench, remove the shift handle retaining screw (Fig. 251). 2. Remove shift handle from shifter assy. 3. Remove console bezel from vehicle. 5. Remove retaining clip from shift cable conduit bracket (Fig. 253). 6. Disconnect shifter cable from cable attach stud (pin) (Fig. 253). 7. Remove cable from center console routing. Leave flat on floor for ease of removal. 8. Raise hood. Remove gearshift cable from throttle/gearshift cable bracket (Fig. 254) 9. Unseat cable grommet at firewall and remove cable from interior of vehicle (Fig. 255). 10. Raise vehicle on hoist and disconnect fill tube bracket from transaxle. Rotate fill tube to gain access to shift cable clamp. 11. Remove cable from routing bracket (Fig. 256) 12. Remove cable-to-transaxle nut and slide cable off of stud (Fig. 255). 13. Disconnect shifter cable from shift lever assembly at transaxle (Fig. 255). 14. Remove cable from underneath vehicle. INSTALLATION 1. Make sure transaxle shift lever is in “Park.” This is the most rearward position. Verify park sprag is fully engaged by rotating either a tire or an axle shaft. 2. Position cable in vehicle and connect cable end to the transaxle shift lever (Fig. 255). 3. Verify that the washer (Fig. 255) is still in place on the cable mounting stud. Install cable to transaxle and tighten nut to 28 Nm (250 inch lbs.). 4. Rotate fill tube to original location. Install and tighten fill tube bracket bolt. 5. Install cable “push pin” into bracket as shown in (Fig. 254).

Selector Lever Cable Vehicles Equipped with a 6R60 Transmission Removal All vehicles 1. With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. For additional information, refer to Section 100-02. 3. With the selector lever in PARK, disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever. Vehicle equipped with a 6R60 transmission 6. Remove the cable shield by prying on the shield closest to the boot, then sliding the shield away from the boot. 4. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the selector lever housing. 7. Unlock the lock tab and disconnect the selector lever cable end from the transmission manual lever. 5. Pull the cable and grommet through the floorpan. 8. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the bracket and remove the cable. Vehicles equipped with a 5R55S transmission 9. Remove the cable shield by prying on the side of the shield closest to the boot, then sliding the shield away from the boot. 10. Unlock the lock tab and disconnect the selector lever cable end from the transmission manual lever. 11. Disconnect the selector lever cable from the bracket and remove the cable. Installation Vehicles equipped with a 6R60 transmission 1. Install the selector lever cable into the bracket. 2. Connect the selector lever cable end onto the transmission manual lever and lock the lock tab. 3. NOTE: If the shield is loose, install a new shield. Install the cable shield. Vehicles equipped with a 5R55S transmission 4. Install the selector lever cable into the bracket. 5. Connect the selector lever cable end onto the transmission manual lever.

1995 Saturn Wagon Clutch Disc: Service and Repair REMOVAL & INSPECTION

1. Remove transaxle as outlined under “Transaxle, Replace.” Refer to Transaxle Replace. 2. Remove release fork and bearing from transaxle by unsnapping fork from ball stud. 3. Slide release bearing from release fork, then check release bearing for excessive play or minimal drag, replace as required. Do not wash bearing in solvent. 4. Using a feeler gauge, measure between pressure plate and flywheel; 0.205-0.287 inch should be indicated. If not, replace clutch disc. 5. Remove pressure plate to flywheel attaching bolts in progressive crisscross pattern. 6. Remove pressure plate and clutch disc. 7. Inspect pressure plate for excessive wear, chatter marks, cracks or overheating; replace as required. Random black spotting on friction surface is normal. 8. Using a straightedge and feeler gauge, measure pressure plate warpage. Maximum warpage is 0.006 inch. 9. Inspect clutch disc for oil, burnt spots, loose damper springs, hub and rivets; replace as required. 10. Measure flywheel thickness. Minimum thickness is 1.102 inch; replace as required. 11. Using a dial indicator, measure flywheel runout. Push crankshaft forward to take up thrust bearing clearance. Maximum runout is 0.006 inch; replace as required. 12. Remove flywheel to crankshaft attaching bolts, then flywheel. INSTALLATION 1. Install flywheel to crankshaft attaching bolts, then torque in order, to 59 ft. lbs. 2. Install clutch disc and pressure plate, with pressure plate yellow dot aligned with flywheel mark, then start pressure plate to flywheel bolts. 3. Install clutch disc alignment tool No. SA9145T or equivalent, until bottoms out in crankshaft. 4. Torque bolts in crisscross pattern to 18 ft. lbs. 5. Remove clutch alignment tool, then install fork clip. 6. Lube fork pivot using high temperature grease part No. 21005995 or equivalent, then install release bearing to fork. Do not lube release bearing or quill. 7. Install release fork and bearing to ball stud.
