1. REMOVE BLOWER SPEED CONTROL SWITCH (a) Remove the illumination light from the A/C control assembly. (b) Using a screwdriver, pry loose the clip and push out the blower speed control switch to rear of the A/C control assembly. 2. Condition Some customers may comment on an inoperative or intermittent Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) blower motor. Others may comment that the blower motor speed may momentarily drop or that the blower motor continues to run after the key is turned off. Cause This condition may be caused by a voltage spike from the wiper motor. The voltage spike may cause a logic lock up in the blower motor control module that may be either momentary or permanent. Correction DO THIS DON’T DO THIS Install a Capacitor at the Blower Motor Control Module Connector Technicians are to install a capacitor, P/N 25073556, at the blower motor control module connector using the following procedure: 1. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. Refer to the Battery Negative Cable Disconnect/Connect procedure in the Engine Electrical section of SI. 2. Remove the right closeout/insulator panel. Refer to the Closeout/Insulator Panel Replacement-Right procedure in the Instrument Panel, Gages and Console section of SI. DO NOT replace the Blower Motor Control Module, Blower Motor or the HVAC Control Head

C1 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR SUPPLY VOLTAGE Gain access to the blower motor control connector. Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Using a voltmeter, check voltage at Circuit 687 (GY/Y) at motor connector. Is voltage 10 volts or more? Yes GO to C4. No GO to C2. C2 CHECK CIRCUIT 687 (GY/Y) FOR SHORT Remove blower Fuse 30A at primary junction block. Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 687 (GY/Y) at A/C blower motor. Measure resistance. Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes SERVICE Circuit 687 (GY/Y) for short. REPLACE fuse. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. No GO to C3. C3 CHECK CIRCUIT 687 (GY/Y) FOR OPEN Disconnect A/C blower motor control. Connect a jumper wire to Circuit 687 (GY/Y) at blower motor control connector. Connect other end to a known good ground. Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 687 (GY/Y). Measure resistance. Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes GO to C4. No SERVICE Circuit 687 (GY/Y) for open. RESTORE vehicle. RETEST system. C4 CHECK BLOWER MOTOR SPEED CONTROL GROUND Gain access to A/C blower motor speed control as outlined. Using an ohmmeter connected to a known good ground, connect second lead to Circuit 57 (BK) at A/C blower motor speed control connector, J1-2. Measure resistance. Is resistance 5 ohms or less? Yes

1. Check the engine oil level. Is the level OK? YES- Go to step 2 . NO- Adjust the engine oil to the proper level, then go to step 14 . 2. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). 3. Clear the DTC with the HDS. 4. Do the VTEC TEST in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS. Is the result OK? YES- Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) and the ECM/PCM. NO- Go to step 5 . 5. Check the result of step 4 . Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) Failure Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) Open Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) SIG Line Open Rocker Arm Oil Pressure Switch (VTEC Oil Pressure Switch) GND Line Open Is the test result any of the above? YES- Go to step 6 . NO- Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch). If it is OK, replace the rocker arm oil control solenoid (VTEC solenoid valve) (see step CMP SENSOR A REPLACEMENT ), then go to 14 . 6. Turn the ignition switch OFF. 7. Disconnect the rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) 2P connector. 8. Check for continuity between rocker arm oil pressure switch (VTEC oil pressure switch) 2P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2.

1. If equipped, remove the sound insulator panel. 2. Disconnect the electrical connector at the blower motor. 3. Disconnect the electrical connector (4) from the blower motor control processor (2). 4. Remove the blower motor control processor retaining screws (3) from the HVAC module (1). 5. Remove the blower motor control processor (2) from the HVAC module (1). INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Install the blower motor control processor (2) to the HVAC module (1). 2. Install the blower motor control processor retaining screws. NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions. Tighten the screws to 1.6 N.m (14 lb in). 3. Connect the electrical connector (4) to the blower motor control processor (2). 4. Connect the electrical connector at the blower motor. 5. If equipped, install the sound insulator panel.
