1992 Suzuki Swift VALVE CLEARANCE ADJUSTMENT

NOTE: Samurai & Sidekick 1) Remove rocker cover. Rotate crankshaft until zero degree (TDC) timing mark of timing belt cover is in line with timing mark on crankshaft pulley. 2) Cylinder No. 1 should be at TDC on compression stroke. Remove distributor cap, and ensure rotor is pointed upward at distributor hold-down bolt and to No. 1 terminal of distributor cap. If not as described, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees. 3) Measure valve clearance between adjustment screw and valve stem using thickness gauge. Check intake valve clearance of cylinders No. 1 and 2 and exhaust valve clearance of cylinders No. 1 and 3. 4) Turn crankshaft one complete revolution (360 degrees). Check intake valve clearance of cylinders No. 3 and 4 and exhaust valve clearance of cylinders No. 2 and 4. Ensure clearance is within specification. See VALVE CLEARANCE SPECIFICATIONS table. 5) If clearance adjustment is necessary, loosen lock nut and turn adjusting screw. After adjusting clearance, tighten adjusting Swift DOHC uses hydraulic lifters. Adjustment is not required. screw lock nut to 11-14 ft. lbs. (15-19 N.m) on Samurai or 90-108 INCH lbs. (10-13 N.m) on Sidekick. On all models, recheck clearance. Remove right side inner fender apron extension to enable timing marks to be seen. Align crankshaft pulley timing mark with TDC mark on timing belt cover. 2) Remove distributor cap. Ensure rotor is pointing upward toward distributor hold-down bolt and to No. 1 terminal of distributor cap. If not as described, rotate crankshaft 360 degrees. 3) Measure valve clearance between adjustment screw and valve stem using thickness gauge. Check intake valve clearance of cylinders No. 1 and 2 and exhaust valve clearance of cylinders No. 1 and 3. Turn crankshaft one complete revolution (360 degrees). ADJUSTMENTS FRONT WIPER ARM ADJUSTMENT NOTE: On Colt, Colt 200 and Summit, front wiper arm position is preset at factory. Before removing arm, mark arm position to motor crank for installation reference. Except Colt, Colt 200 & Summit Ensure wiper motor is in park position. Position wiper arm and blade assembly so tip of blade is specified distance above front window trim. See FRONT WIPER ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS table. Attached to this service information is a copy of Work instruction #256 which describes the procedure for window adjustment on model 129. Figure 1 Check proper fit and adjustment of window (arrows, positions 1 and 2, Figure 1) with door and window closed The window can be adjusted at points indicated by arrows in positions 3-10 in Figure 1 (see Procedure). Procedure 1. Install hardtop, if removed. 2. Remove interior door panel (job no. 72-100). 3. Remove lower body protection panel (job no. 88-800). 4. Remove speaker group and air passage. 5. Remove protective plastic liner from door. 6. Remove inner and outer sealing rail (job no. 72-160 and 72-170, respectively). 7. Adjust door if necessary (job no. 72-050). 8. Loosen guide piece screw and push downwards. 9. Remove rubber plugs and loosen both 13 mm nuts. Turn 5.5 mm adjustment bolts so that the screws of the guide rail are in the middle of the guide bracket. 10. Adjust window with the front and rear sliding blocks so that in the lowered position, the window rests parallel and in the middle of the window channel (9 mm from door inner metal panel). Note: The lateral gap (tension) is increased by pushing the blocks upward and decreased when the blocks are pushed downward.
