Removing the stock air inlet system
a) Before removing any of the O.E. components, label each individual part so that no components become mixed up during the installation process. There are two Vacuum Switching Valves (VSV), and one air flow meter that have electrical and/or vacuum connections going to them. Be sure to label these connections before disconnecting them.
Remove b) Remove the two nuts and two plastic rivets that hold the plastic engine cover on. The
plastic rivets may be gently lifted with a small screwdriver. Remove the cover. c) Remove the bolt in the radiator support that holds the battery bracket. Unhook the rod at the rear of the battery bracket. Remove the battery from the vehicle

Some customers may experience a water leak at the front floor area. Water may be Introduction entering the body due to a body sealer void on the engine compartment rear wall, near the upper door hinge. Repair 1. Raise the vehicle. On the side of the vehicle that has the water leak, remove the front Procedure wheel and the front fender plastic liner. 2. Examine (with flash light and mirror) the body sealer condition on the engine compartment rear wall, near the upper door hinge. Also examine the sealer condition inside the inner fender box frame structure with access holes (see illustration).

1. DRAIN COOLANT 2. REMOVE BATTERY 3. REMOVE AIR CLEANER ASSY a. Disconnect the MAF meter connector and wire clamp. b. Disconnect the VSV connector for canister closed valve (CCV) and air hose. c. Disconnect the 3 vacuum hoses. d. Loosen the hose clamp. e. Remove the air cleaner cap. f. Remove the air filter. g. Remove the 3 bolts and air cleaner case. 4. SEPARATE RADIATOR HOSE OUTLET 5. REMOVE WATER INLET PIPE a. Remove the bolt and water inlet pipe. 6. REMOVE WATER INLET a. Remove the 3 bolts and water inlet. 7. REMOVE THERMOSTAT 8. INSTALL THERMOSTAT a. Install a new gasket to the thermostat. b. Align the thermostat jiggle valve with the upper stud bolt, and insert the thermostat in the water inlet housing. HINT: The jiggle valve may be set within 15° of either side of the prescribed position. 9. INSTALL WATER INLET Torque: 8 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.) 10. INSTALL WATER INLET PIPE a. Install a new O-ring to the water inlet pipe. b. Apply soapy water to the O-ring. c. Connect the water inlet pipe to the water inlet. d. Install the bolt holding the water inlet pipe to the cylinder head. Torque: 20 Nm (204 kgf-cm, 15 ft. lbs.) 11. INSTALL AIR CLEANER ASSY Torque: 5 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 inch lbs.) 12. ADD COOLANT 13. CHECK FOR ENGINE COOLANT LEAKS
