Introduction Some customers may experience a popping noise when opening and/or closing the front doors on their vehicle. Use the following procedure to diagnose and correct the condition. S 2004 – 2006 model year Sienna vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Applicable Vehicles Effective VINs shown below. Production MODEL Change Information Sienna Repair NOTE: Procedure Inspect the door frame around the door check mounting area. S If a spot weld or check mount area is cracked or split, the following repair method CANNOT be performed and the door assembly MUST be replaced. S If a door is to be replaced, all hemming flanges and body panel seams MUST be sealed with body seam sealer prior to painting the door assembly. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), CRIB (Collision Repair Information Bulletin), “Bulletin # 16: 1987 All: Sealing of Hemming Flanges And Body And Panel Seams,” and “Bulletin # 44: 1991 All: Body Seam And Joint Sealer Application”. (Note that the CRIBs are located within the CR tab of the main TIS screen.) S If a spot weld has separated, have a body shop perform the following procedure.

DESCRIPTION Some customers may complain of a loud, beeping noise when placing small objects on the passenger front seat such as a briefcase or laptop computer. The noise occurs after placing vehicle in drive and exceeding a speed of 12 mph. The noise may be due to the seat belt minder. The seat belt minder is a supplemental warning to the seat belt warning function established for North American specification vehicles. This feature provides an additional reminder to the passenger that the passenger’s seat belt is not fastened, by intermittently emitting a beep sound and flashing the seat belt warning light in the instru- ment cluster. The seat belt minder can be deactivated and restored again if the customer wishes. The following information is included in the Owner’s Manual:LONG-TERM DEACTIVATION To deactivate belt minder long-term, instrument cluster configuration will be changed using WDS. If belt minder is deactivated long-term, it will remain deactivated until it is restored using WDS. NOTE: Long-term deactivation cannot be canceled by turning ignition switch to OFF/ON or by disconnecting battery. To deactivate belt minder long-term using WDS version B37 or higher: 1. Identify vehicle, verify “Vehicle Specification” recognition screen information. 1511a 2. Is vehicle equipped with DSC? Select “NO”, then press Tick.

To ensure maximum drive belt life and proper component operation, replacement drive belts (8620) must be the same type and size as the original drive belts . When installing a new drive belt , ensure that it is properly seated on the pulleys. NOTE: Mark the direction of rotation on the drive belt with a marking pen to ensure correct installation if the drive belt is to be reused. Failure to do so may result in drive belt noise. Drive Belt, A/C Compressor Removal 1. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt. 2. Loosen the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley adjustment bolt. 3. Remove the A/C compressor drive belt from the A/C compressor clutch pulley (2E884) , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley and the crankshaft pulley (6312) . Installation 1. Inspect the pulleys for warping or abnormal wear. Replace any damaged pulley. To replace the A/C compressor clutch pulley , refer to Section 12-03B. To replace crankshaft pulley , refer to Section 03-01. 2. Install the A/C compressor drive belt on the A/C compressor clutch pulley , A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley, and crankshaft pulley . 3. Adjust the A/C compressor drive belt tension. Refer to the procedure in this section. 4. Tighten the A/C compressor drive belt idler pulley tensioner bolt securely. Drive Belt, Generator Removal 1. Raise and support the vehicle. 2. Remove the RH engine and transmission splash shield (6775) . 3. Loosen the inner and outer generator-to-generator regulator mounting bracket bolts. 4. Loosen the generator locking bolt.

Due to the knocking noise and slow leaking of antifreeze, I decided to bite the bullet and replace the timing belt, tensioner arm and water pump. The following is information and photos regarding the repair procedure as well as replacing idler bearings for the timing belt and accessory belts. TIMING BELT (Loosen Crank / Water Pump Bolts) Before jacking the car up, MTX and ATX PGT’s should turn their wheel to the left and pop out the rubber plug in the splash well. The crank bolt is accessible directly inline with this hole pictured here……… Put the MTX in forth gear and set the parking brake firmly. The bolt can easily be broken loose with a breaker bar. ATX trannys will have to brace the breaker bar against the frame rail and tap the starter to crank the engine and pop the bolt loose. Next, while the car is still on the ground with all the belts still on, take a 10 mm combination wrench and crack the four water pump pulley bolts loose. It’s much easier now with the driveline and belts holding the pulley(s) still.

BACKGROUND The current routing of the engine drive belt creates extra force on the drive belt auto-tensioner. In rare cases, this extra force could break the auto-tensioner pivot bolt, causing an engine noise or a loss of power steering. CORRECTIVE ACTION Replace the auto-tensioner pivot bolt, and reroute the drive belt. On vehicles with A/C, install a new drive belt. REPAIR PROCEDURE 1. From above the engine, set a long-handled, boxed- end wrench on the drive belt auto-tensioner. Slowly turn the wrench counterclockwise, then remove the drive belt. NOTE: On vehicles without A/C, the drive belt will be reused. 2. Insert a pulley holder (see REQUIRED SPECIAL TOOLS) into one of the holes in the water pump pulley at the 12 o’clock position. The tool holds the pulley so you can loosen or tighten the pulley bolts. WATER PUMP PULLEY 3. Remove the water pump pulley (three bolts). 4. Remove the pivot bolt from the drive belt auto- tensioner. NOTE: In rare cases, the pivot bolt may be broken. If this has happened, remove the auto-tensioner, then remove the shank of the pivot bolt with Vise Grips or by drilling it out. Do not try to repair the engine block using a TIME-SERT. If you can’t remove the shank of the pivot bolt, you would need DPSM approval to install an engine short block assembly.
