BACKGROUND Over time, the power tailgate support struts can lose internal pressure. If they lose enough pressure, the struts may not keep the tailgate up after you open it. A tailgate that lowers unintentionally could cause an injury. REPAIR PROCEDURE NOTE: • Wear eye protection when you pry on the tailgate support strut clips. • Have an assistant hold up the tailgate during the procedure. 1. Pry up the clip on both ends of the tailgate support struts with a flat-tip screwdriver. Then remove the struts by pulling them out of the upper and lower pivot bolts. 2. With the clip on both ends of the new support struts flush to the strut body, install the new struts by pressing the strut ends into the upper and lower pivot bolts. Make sure both support struts are securely attached to the pivot bolts. 3. Center-punch a completion mark above the 11th character of the engine compartment VIN:

Control lockout override via grounding of unused e-brake input Rear camera input switch DISCLAIMER: Anyone following these instructions is doing so at their own risk and agrees to not hold me liable for any damage caused as a result of reproducing my experiences that I am documenting here for your reference only. PART 1: REMOVAL OF BEZEL Subaru’s instructions indicate that the bezel can be removed by hand. No one on any message board seems to be able to do this. The solution many have found is to use a trim removal tool. I bought a cheap one at Wal- Mart and quickly found that any small plastic chisel or rubber-coated screwdriver will do. The trick is to get just enough leverage using the tool from inside the vents to pop off the corners. Using your fingers just isn’t quite enough. As you can see, I did use a cheap trim removal tool, but found using the stubbier end worked better for me. Insert any kind of soft (plastic or rubber) tool with a thin edge into the vent and feel for the lip underneath. The hardest part is to get the willpower to give it a good, firm yank towards you. Every time I pulled off another section, I swore it was going to break in half.

Fault ABS warning light constantly “ON” with no ABS operation. Callers often remark that they are unable to communicate with the ABS ECM even though using suitable diagnostic equipment.
Cause The ABS ECM / hydraulic modulator / ABS pump units are a combined unit assembly and are located behind the off side front headlamp. The caller reported that the harness plug was full of water and the terminals were found to be excessively corroded, to the point were the harness plug and ABS ECM needed replacing. The caller also reported that this was the second time he
had experienced the problem on Subaru Impreza vehicles. Vehicles
If the terminals on both the ABS ECM and ABS ECM harness plug are heavily corroded beyond cleaning and repair, it will be necessary to replace both the ABS ECM / hydraulic modulator / ABS pump assembly in addition to the ABS ECM harness plug
