Some 2003 — 2004 model year Corolla vehicles equipped with a 1ZZ–FE engine may exhibit a M.I.L. “ON” condition with Diagnostic Trouble Code P0420 (Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold) stored in the Engine Control Module (ECM) (SAE term:Powertrain Control Module/PCM). Some customers may experience a wind noise that sounds like a “buzz” or “reed
vibration” sound from the windshield area. This condition may be the result of wind (air)
pressure momentarily lifting the rubber windshield molding away from the body and then
forcing the rubber molding back down against the body. The rapid oscillations of the
rubber molding produce a high pitch “reed vibration” sound or “buzzing” sound.
The following repair procedure will assist in the repair of this condition.
